Omega General Help / V6 oil leaks
« on: 19 August 2010, 17:16:05 »
Just foumd this on TIS which might be of some use

"recent investigations have also highlighted that the oil pressure regulation plunger can become stuck, causing too high oil pressure and resulting in oil leaks from gaskest and/or seals.

Before replacing the affected gsaket(s), check the operation of the oil pressure to ensure that it does not exceed 6 bar through all engine speeds

If oil pressure exceeds 6 bar, then it will be necessary to replace the oil pump ahd gaskets."

Now this could explain some of the case where the breather has been cleaned, new OE gaskets fitted but its still leaking.

Anyway just an FYI

cheers

Omega General Help / VENTILATION QUESTION
« on: 20 May 2010, 12:37:24 »
Only came across this yesterday as i was ghosting the car after finally get the heads done.

Because i forgot to get the radio code out of the file i had to drive to work with no sounds and thus i noticed something odd.

Had the interior fan on speed two with the AC off (it doesn't work) and the heaters on cold.

I noticed that on giving it a boot full the blower would slow down and when i took my foot of the pedal the fan would speed up.

The only thing i can think of its something to do with pressure different in the vacum pipes, vacum going + then-, or am i talking rubbish.

Another quike which has been there since i've had the car is the ventilation tracks. When the car is stopped i can get air from all the vent, ie when on the control knob is on the screen i get air on the screen, when its on the feet i get air in the footwell.

But once on on move it doesn't matter where i put the contol know i only get air to the screen & centre vents but nothing to the floor.

I'm thinking thats its either the vacum control on the back of the control know or a vac leak somewhere

Anyone got any pointers

cheers

Omega General Help / Think the heads blowen
« on: 19 April 2010, 12:32:29 »
The V6 has had a small water leak over the last few weeks which i put down to a leaky rad. I'd run the motor up for an hour in the workshop with some cardboard underneath but nothing showed up on it but its been in the back od my mind that this wasn't the cause ofthe leak.

Footwells are both dry so its not the matrix, HBV has been done and can't feel or see any leaks at the back of the engine.

OK, head gasket. Got the motor hot, no steam etc from exhaust, no oil in coolant or coolant in oil, took it for a run down the A11 and it pulls like a train and no missfire.

Anyway that was last week and as i'm upto my eyes in a Manta rebuild for another customer i've put off doing the rad so last night the other half tells me the low level coolant message is on again.

I had some coolant already mixed up in the boot so i put two+ Ltrs in a cold engine and the coolant is P***ing out.

Ran the car back upto the workshop and on the ram and there is coolant dripping down the very back of the block on the passangers side. Took the inlet manifold off to see if i could get a better view and also check the hoses etc.

Found nothing, all the hoses clean and dry and no matter how hard i pushed my hand down the back of the motor i couldn't feel anything wet.

So the conclusion is the the N/S head gasket has gone on the bottom back corner. Its taking the contents of the expansion bottle without any pressure in the system and then stops so i would say that the coolant level is getting down to the height of the block .

So unless anyone has a better idea then its engine out at the weekend.

I've a spare engine in the workshop that was earmarked for the Manta but thats  on the back burner, got a '70 Opel GT to build first so i think the quickets and cheapest thing to do is stick a new belt kit on the spare motor check it out and swap them over in a weekend.

There was a post the other week and some had put up a picture of a headgasket with the oil and water ways maked out, had a look but can't find it anywhere, does anyone have a copy

wish me luck

Andy

Omega General Help / Can anyone help?
« on: 21 January 2010, 20:48:57 »
One of out OMOC club members is having a spot of bother with the 2.5 V6 he has in his Manta A Series.

As you guys and the most informed with V6 issues i wondered if anyone has any ideas on the following

Cheers
Andy

A bit of history: engine 2.5 V6 X25XE.

For a while now, when starting from cold the engine will not idle and cuts out, but once it has been running for a few mins all is fine. Then yesterday it started cutting out every time I stoped, the only way to keep it running was to brake using the hand brake and keep the revs up.

My first thorght was ICV, so I swoped the ICV for a spare i had and this now caused the engine to idle at about 2000 revs, swoped this again for a 2nd spare one and still idle at 2000 revs. Put original ICV back on and still no change, 2000 revs at idle.

Cleaned all 3 and tried again, no change.

After playing around a bit I found:

1. If ICV is unpluged the revs drop to around 1000 rpm and car drives fine.

2. If ICV is pluged in but throtle pot. plug is unpluged rev drop to 1000 rpm.

tried changing the throtel pot. no change.

Then all of a sudden it seemed to sort it's self and was fine, untill this morning.
Started car and at idle revs went to 2500, the only way I can make them drop is to unplug the ICV or the throtle pot. which then drops revs to around 1000.

I've tried changing the throtle body, no change. ECU no change, I also swoped the MAF, this did drop the rpm but was now hunting very badly.

I'm at my whits end now and need help.

I don't know if this is conected, but another problem i have is that at full throtle the engine looses power, if you then lift off a little all is fine again. It seems to be only the last 1-2 mm of throtle that this happens.

Thanks for any help.

Chris.

Omega General Help / VxPro Engines (V6)
« on: 30 July 2009, 11:10:18 »
Just to let you know that we now have a new price for VxPro V6 engines

X25XE £1550.00
Y26SE £1550.00
Y32SE £1650.00

These are the only V6 engines available from VxPro. The above prices are subject to VAT and exchange unit surcharge which is re-fundable on return of the old unit and will be collection only

VxPro engines are not re-con units but Re-manufractured units made to the OE spec and have a 12 month warranty against manufracture defects.

Prices might seem high but at least, if are in need of another motor the you have something to go by

Omega General Help / Just to let you know
« on: 01 July 2009, 15:56:56 »
Just a heads up. Vauxhall security are changing the way we apply for any security items, keys, locks, codes etc.

What we now have to do (which we already do anyway) is take a copy of the V5 + another forum of ID.

So if your applying for any of the above and get asked for the V5 etc then its not the guy at the counter being petty, he could lose his job for not following protocol

cheers

Omega General Help / lit up like a xmas tree
« on: 07 March 2009, 21:09:34 »
Had a good one today to sort out had the EML, ABS, AirBag, and TC lights on all at once.

The ABS & TC lights went off after a few miles and on slowing down the air bag light went out then the EML then they came on again as i put my foot down, oh and the trans wasn't shifting either.

Got the car in the workshop, popped the bonnet and had a look round and got  funny smell from the battery and smoke coming out of the event.

Checked the output pf the alternator and it was charging at 17 volts and cooking the battery

Disconnected the battert lead of the alternator and took it for a spin and now all the lights have gone out

Now the fun bit, swaping the alternator out, what an a**e of a job.

All back together and no lights on. so when all the dash lights come on check the simple things first
