After the crap we had with autoglass I will never let them near one of my cars again. In the end I found the MDs email on LinkedIn and fired of a snotty email, we did eng up getting our excess back.

Would it be worth fitting an external oil pressure gauge, start the motor from cold and watch the pressure as it warms up and starts to tap, at least you can rule out oil pressure

I've used the powder with great results. For the best results when using the powder use a fish tank heater to keep the water warm, just don't let run dry.

The reason the drop out clutch was stopped was down to Brussels. To meet the new emission laws back in the early nineties the engines were leaned off and to keep the inertia the flywheel needed to be heavier and as they could not make the diameter bigger they had to make it thicker with a pot style clutch, reason for the pot style is GM were using old style gear boxes on new style engines
