As you had painted the lower half black, I am surprised you did not go for the all black grille. Might have been a better match?

A black surround to the grille would make it look bigger IMO, not what I wanted

Might be worth experimenting with the chrome surround be body colour. May have a play if I can find time to do mine.

Either way it still looks much better. I hate that V thing on the standard grille.

I suppose, but it looks odd to me. Shiny chrome above and black below. But your car, so what you like matters.
