BBS Moda R1 Wheels...
« on: 03 June 2009, 21:32:14 »

Last night I spotted these one craigslist and I was like...    :o  when I saw the price... so then called the guy arranged a meeting and i just got back from a 20min trip... they look nice, the tires are a bit too small only 215/45-17 and I need at least 235/45-17 or 245/45-17s but they will do for now until I either find a buyer for them or some new tires...

I tried them on the car, they seem to fit quite well... offset is just right and they will be perfect with some meatier tires on them.

Wheels are:   :-?

BBS - MODA R1
Bolt:  5x110
CB:    65.1mm
DIA:   17x7.5"
OFFSET 38MM
Weight  19lbs/wheel
Wheel/tire ~38lbs

Pictures installed on my 2K1-CS

I also have a set of springs waiting for some nice weather in order to install them...    :P

ahhh saab wheels.
Look well, nice and simple.

as for tyres, 235/45/17 are on my elite alloys...thats the standard size i think. with mine being 40mm lower, 245 would be too big for the front arches!

Well from what I have read they were Italian produced by TireRack, and licensed by BBS, but certain models were manufactured by ASA...  but either way they are high quality wheels, with the latest manufacturing technologies.....

So who owns RADIUS?

Just got back from the tire installer, I was out shopping for a budjet tire, something not too expensive that looked good, was quiet and performed well in most of the weather out there... the result was this set of unknown brand of tires... that I have never seen or heard of before.  The guy at the shop sells a ton of them and he says the high performance guys around him that use them all love it, and there is not one bad thing about them.. except the name... TRIANGLE?  go figure!... but its a 360 AA A tire with a 95V Rated.   not sure what speed that is but... here are the specs.

MODA R1 Wheels
Size: 17x7.5"
Offset: 38mm (OEM Saab Viggen whees have 42mm Offset)

Triangle Talon TR968 Tires
Size: 235 45 17
Width ~9"
Price: 65$/tire
Tread looks like Yokohama or something like that, its definitely copied from somewhere. The tread is quite soft so we will see how they will last.

I picked the 245 over the 235 because in terms of width they were exactly the same and the only difference was the 245 was around 1/4 or 3/8 higher then the 235.
THe 245 is 25.7" the 235 is 25.5" so I wanted the taller tire so that I can drop the rpms for highway cruise and it gives it a bit more cushy ride.

I like the bulged out look a lot, and I think these are as close as you get to the Steinmetz wheels looks wise...

First impressions for the tires, very responsive to steering inputs, soft ride over puddles, and extremely quiet on the highway!  So far the best 300$ I have ever spent!

Here are some pictures.

The heavier tires have helped a lot, Cat 8-) 8-) but still can't help thinking that, as in many other cases, there's too much disk and caliper showing to look right.

For the size of the car, the disk/caliper arrangement seems rather modest and the more exposed this is it just doesn't seem to sit well.

Aside from that comment, the car is  8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) :y
