Hi everybody my 1st post,I've got a 2.6 cdx and the water pump has started leaking and squealing so i took it into my local garage who quoted me £605.06 seemed a bit excessive to me.Any ideas of cost for this job? Many thanks in advance Glenn

With some practice and the essential use of the cam locking tools, you should be looking at about two/two and half hour's labour and £150ish in parts. Which makes £650 way too much! I suspect they've heard all the usual rubbish about how difficult a job it is and have priced it to make you go away.

James did my cambelt (excellent job, btw) and checked the water pump, but said it was ok and as it was driven by the auxiliary belt - the front one - it would be quick and easy to change at a later date if necessary as the cambelt did net need to be touched.
So, your job should be cheap and easy!

Ron.

That price probably about right for a dealer, but high for an independent garage.

DIY cost should be around £100ish (pattern parts) or £200 (GM parts). First time you do it, allow 3hrs, although I've seen Marks DTM do one in 45 mins...   ...but he was already late for the pub ;D
