Is Serek still doing Omega mechanics. Any idea of what he charges for a belt change. I have tried to contact James, but his inbox is full. :(

General Car Chat / MOT pass (phew)
« on: 20 December 2023, 13:37:06 »
Gobsmacked...Omega passed its mot today, despite being on SORN for two years or more....got a long list of advisaries, but all minor stuff, with the exception of tyres, noted 7 years old and starting to deteriorate.
As I type...its being sanded down on the roof and bonnet, a new boot being fitted and a prodrive spoiler being fitted. After, its getting a new Screen rubber fitted. Just costing me for the paint. Its being done as a Christmas present for me from the grandson, as ..'a payback for all the things you have done and helped me with over the years'. His girlfriends dad, who owns a bodyshop and booth here is spraying it tomorrow, using two pack stuff.
Can't wait to get it back...... :y :y :y

General Car Chat / Cambelt
« on: 30 October 2023, 10:25:01 »
Hi all....I know the cambelt fitting duration has been discussed on here many times, but I have a dilemma this time.......I have always been a staunch belt changer every four years on all of my Omega's. However this time, its been four years since Gixer changed the belt, but its only been driven a few hundred miles, if indeed that. It has been started regularly and run for a few minutes every week. I will probably get it changed, but does it need the full set. I thought someone said to me you only need the tensioner and a belt, is this correct.
Thanks....

General Car Chat / Car covers
« on: 16 August 2023, 11:47:04 »
A while back, I bought a car cover for the Omega as it wasn't being used a lot. It fitted well and did the job of keeping the bird crap at bay !! However, it was during the very, very hot weather we had last year, and as our frontage is a sun trap for most of the day, the cover got boiling hot, couldn't bear your hand on it. When I came to take it off, it had stuck to the roof and bonnet, and had fubared the clear coat.  >:(  The damage has now expanded as the car is parked in the front, and I have had to start sanding it all back to be able to respray it. I can do the respray myself, but to hire a booth is £250 a day at a place in Buckingham. My Omega had really good paintwork, so I am really miffed. Obviously, I can't be 100% sure the cover was the problem, but the paintwork was great before and now is totally knackered.
Thought I'd post just to advise you to be aware of what has happened to me  :y

Omega General Help / Valve stem seals
« on: 15 August 2023, 23:05:03 »
Does anyone know the cost of replacing valve stem seals. I assume that's what's wrong. Car has been stood a while, and after fitting the crank sensor, I started it, gave it a bit of welly (stationary) and had a large blue cloud. Tell how bad it was, my grandson came round and said.. 'Have you started the Omega?'....I said 'Why'.......he said..'There is a big blue cloud out in Humphries Drive'  ;D ;D ;D. Are there additives you can use to refurbish the seals that work. Engine has only done 80k and gentle driving (not thrashed) I am only the second owner, and had it donkeys years.
I don't really want to spend a fortune on engine stripping yet, as I am in the middle of sorting the bonnet and roof for respray (I shall do this myself, but it costs £250 per day for spray booth hire/usage)  :o

Omega General Help / Crank sensor cable length
« on: 15 August 2023, 12:20:28 »
Hi all...long time no see !!!
I have to fit a new crank sensor on my 2003 2.6. I am not sure if I have been sent the one I ordered. The cable length, including the plug is about twenty five and a half inches long, is this correct.
I have got the scuttle off, is there anything else that needs to come off. I think I have found the connector, but its a sod to get at. What is the pipe at the rear right of the plenum that runs round over where the connector is. Is it safe to take that off, or is it a no no.
Thanks in advance.

General Car Chat / Another year..another MOT..another pass
« on: 04 August 2021, 10:13:03 »
Well happy...passed another MOT....tester just mentioned a bit of corrosion started on a rear brake pipe, but he said he cleaned it up and its fine, and he put some grease on it. No mention of any tin worm anywhere  :y :y :y

General Car Chat / Spraying costs
« on: 09 April 2021, 13:38:40 »
Does anyone have any idea roughly what it would cost to respray an Omega roof. Its gone funny around the antenna area.  :(
Lot of people would say why bother, but I am a perfectionist.... :y

Omega General Help / windscreen rubber
« on: 05 April 2021, 14:16:06 »
Hi all...
2003 CD 2.6....... the windscreen rubber is perishing fast all round the screen. I understand these screens are complex, but is it possible to just fit a new rubber without taking the whole screen out. I have used the search system, but am a bit confused.
Thanks  :y

General Car Chat / Seat change....
« on: 03 September 2020, 11:24:18 »
Hi all,
Since we had the Mazda 6, swmbo has been moaning about no adjustment on her seat. So after some discussion, we thought we would buy a new Mazda 6. However, I was perusing the bay of thieves, and casually searched for a Mazda 6 seat, with adjustment. Blow me, a place in SLady bitshorpe, wherever that is, had one for sale...£67 and free postage. Ordered Monday night, came last night. Wrapped up like a mummy, and the seat is in stunning condition. Now to get it fitted. Have asked the son in law. It has airbag, so I assume I have to disconnect the battery. Do you need to disconnect both terminals or just the negative, and will it have to go to the dealers to programme it. In my book, £67 is better than £25,000 out of my coffers. May still go for a new one next year, we will see.  :y
Thanks in advance for any advice  :y

General Car Chat / MOT day
« on: 18 August 2020, 23:53:51 »
Well, they might be getting a bit thin on the road, but today my Omega 2.6 saloon went through the MOT with no problems. This is the sixth year in a row of straight passes. Still only got 80,000 on the clock, and car looking good still.  :y :y

Omega General Help / Wishbones
« on: 02 April 2020, 15:14:10 »
Are Delphi wishbones any good nowadays.
Going to replace mine...in days of old when money flowed, I fitted Lemforder. But as a retired gentleman, who drives at a sedate pace, knocking up about 3000 miles or less a year in the Omega, obviously money has to be 'nurtured'. In laymans terms, I have to justify to 'her indoors'

General Discussion Area / Tech question..Web links.
« on: 20 December 2019, 09:50:04 »
I have noticed on here at times, when you want to share a link to, say a web page or YouTube clip, instead of the link you use text, for example, you may say 'have a look at this', but the word 'this' is in blue, and if you click it, you get directed to the linked item.
I would like to do this on a web page. Is it possible, and how do you do it :)

The web page I want to use is my Flightsim web, which is phpvms.
