General Discussion Area / Everything going wrong...
« on: 07 February 2018, 15:59:43 »
Really hacked off now......last time we went away some low life dented the wing of my blue estate. This time, 10 days ago we were due to come back home and I fell and badly dislocated my shoulder. After being taken to Swanage Hospital, they said the X-ray machine was not working. They would not let me transfer to Poole by car because my BP was through the floor. So I had to wait for an ambulance to come from Bournemouth to get me. Then they did not want to take me as they had no Morphine !!! So they tried to get a Paramedic car that carries Morphine but couldn't. So they had to take me in their ambulance. That nearly killed me. I was bouncing all over the place, and screaming the place down. Finally, four hours after the fall, I arrive at Poole Hospital. I am wheeled in, in a wheelchair, and they booked me in. I heard the receptionist ask what time it happened, and the driver said 'about three thirty'. I saw all heads turn my way, then....bloody hell, it all happened. Next minute pushed at high speed in my chair to a cubicle, lifted on a bed, a line thing fitted, then bed pushed down to xray. Back up to cubicle, and lines connected and Morphine pumped in. Oh joy, peace, no pain. A bit later they manipulated it back. So....on doctors orders, 10 days late getting back..........to find, someone has smashed the drivers side wing mirror off the gold estate. Now it won't start. :( Taken a chance and ordered a crankshaft sensor as it is showing same symptoms as once before and a sensor did the job. If it starts, (subject to being able to fit it with a dicky arm and shoulder) I will get a mirror. If not, I fear I will scrap it or px it for a puddle jumper for swmbo.
Think my Omega days are slowly coming to an end. :'( :'(

Omega General Help / Wing dent
« on: 02 October 2017, 11:50:03 »
Hi all...

How easy/hard is it to remove the front offside wing. Whilst I have been away, some low life cretin has dented the front wing just aft of the headlight.

General Car Chat / Battery or alternator
« on: 19 August 2017, 15:22:55 »
Hi fellas,
Neighbours car would not start....flat battery. She had the AA in, who started it and told her to leave it running.
So I put my multi meter on it. Question is.....do all cars have the same battery readings as the ones in our Omega test.
The readings I am getting...maximum under load is 13.89. Off load its about 13.86. Pointing me towards the Alternator, on the basis that all cars are the same. Car is a VW Golf 2011 reg.

Omega General Help / Pedal code scenario
« on: 14 August 2017, 15:02:18 »
 Car ...2.6 Elite estate 2001.
To give a brief background of problem......
*Car refused to start....new crankshaft sensor fitted*. Car started perfectly. However since fitting the CS, after a short distance the EM light flashes on, car jerks, then light goes off, and car then runs perfect.
Next problem was the alternator....new regulator fitted, car charges fine.
Took the car out today, short distance, EM light flashed on, jerk, then light off, and car ok.
So came back to do the pedal trick for codes. Flashed 21 times, then EM light flashed and spanner light stopped. Then spanner light went out. Then started flashing again., but intermittently EM flashed, and stopped the spanner light. I did near a noise from under the bonnet each time this happened, like a small knock.
Turned off ignition, and tried again...this time spanner light flashed over 40 times then I switched the ignition off.
Turned ignition on, and this time same scenario as the first time..flashing until the EM light flashes, then intermittent again !!!!
Any thoughts, gents :y

*As a footnote for those who remember, when the car had starting problems, a cheap sensor was purchased for elimination purposes. It is still fitted, as the car has only done about 120 miles since then which was a trip to Brackley and back, and a short trip to Hemel Hempstead and back. I have not had chance to change the CS. Would this be co-incidental or in some way connected to CS, as the car worked perfectly until that fateful day when it would not start. :(

Omega General Help / Part number
« on: 04 August 2017, 12:32:42 »
Hi all....
After my epic alternator repair, all seems to run well. However, I have just found this part laying on the under tray. It says GM 90 448 359 and is a rubber part. Can any of you with contacts find out what it is and where it came from.....click on pics for larger view...

Thanks in advance :y

General Discussion Area / Cycle racing throwing rubbish...
« on: 30 July 2017, 16:29:37 »
Have been watching the cycling on the box, and must admit, watching them chucking their drinks cartons, etc, into the bushes really annoyed me. If I did it, I bet plod would be there and I would be nicked. Don't tell me someone goes around after picking up the bits.....where some of that stuff was chucked was way up and over the roadside bushes. I suppose wherever they lob it, they are immune from prosecution.
I like watching bike racing, but those actions annoy me. :o

Omega General Help / Engine red hot
« on: 26 July 2017, 00:20:50 »
Went to Hemel Hempstead, about half an hour away. Went to start the car to come home, flat as a witches tit. Felt hot. Jump started it, got back to Amersham, and speedo vibrated, fuel gauge seemed to do its own thing, dash lights started flashing on and off, then everything packed up. Coasted to a stop. Battery so flat could not operate anything....clicking noises everywhere, doors, sunroof, etc. Recovery came, put a starter pack on and it started first time, sweet as a nut. But he asked how long we had been there, told him two and a half hours, and he said the engine and everything else was still red hot. So put it on a flatbed and brought us home.
So....do you think it could be water pump packed up, or thermostat knackered, or something more sinister. :(

General Discussion Area / Under pressure
« on: 01 June 2017, 00:33:03 »
Under severe pressure to part with one of my babies (Omega's) Keeping swmbo at bay for the moment. Possibility of some ackers still due from her cousins estate, and also we are looking to move to Brackley, which could substantially increase the capital. If I can find the right place with plenty of parking, I will keep all three, and sorn whichever. She wants a puddle-jumper, and I admit, I have seen a nice Lexus 330 for me, but the tax is £520 per year. Don't know whether to trade in the gold estate for a new car (or nearly new) for her, then find a house with space, so I keep the other two, and then get the Lexus (if not sold).
Or...it could be a Skoda Superb.
In a quandry. Bloke next door wants to buy my house, and the move could mean about 100 grand in my bank account. Seen one place in Brackley ( well away from flying garage doors, etc !!! ). He keeps on at me, so getting it from all sides now !! :-\

General Discussion Area / Labour
« on: 18 May 2017, 22:15:08 »
This just popped up on my FB account, I expect some of you have seen it, but it did make me chuckle...

Labour.....a bunch of rich people, trying to convince poor people to vote for rich people..by telling poor people, that 'other' rich people are the reason they are poor !!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Caravan taps
« on: 05 May 2017, 13:28:42 »
Swmbo is giving me grief due to the caravan taps not behaving itself. First off, the spout part flew off and she got soaked. Tried various 'o' rings but to no avail. Super Steel.
Obviously, at some point I shall have to replace it if the Super Steel lets go. Geez...they cost a fortune !!! Now, mine has an electrical wire in it so I assume thats a micro switch. What does it do. Is that what pumps the water up. Non switched ones are twice as cheap. :)

General Discussion Area / Entwood....my hero.
« on: 03 April 2017, 18:05:30 »
Entwood ...you are my hero.
Driving down to Dorset, lost air conditioning, etc. Fuse 14. Tried renewing and just kept blowing, the minute the ignition went on. Blowing. Did a search on here, and what turns up....'2014...Fuse 14 blowing'. Read it and got down-hearted at first, as to possible seats out, etc etc.  :(
But...right at the bottom of a reply by Entwood, was a sentence, that said, 'Have a look at the cigarette lighter for crap.' Nothing in the front one....but lo and behold, in the rear one was a 5p piece !!!!!!!!!!!! Removed it....bingo, new fuse and all working perfectly.
You are lucky I am not near you, matey, or you would have had a big kiss. ;D ;D ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Poole bus driver
« on: 29 March 2017, 17:37:37 »
Does anybody on here drive a bus in Poole. Went round a roundabout in Poole and a bus was waiting to enter, and the driver gave us the big thumbs up and smile. Not being local, I can only think of the Omega connection. :)
Have to wait and see if the thread title attracts attention :y

General Car Chat / Two down, 1 to go
« on: 22 March 2017, 15:27:38 »
That's two of the beastie's passed the MOT this week :y
Blue Estate goes in next month.

Couple of small advisories this time, but they have already been sorted... rear pads wearing down, and exhaust two tiny holes appearing in centre boxes. Plugged for short term, but £90 ETS job being ordered :y

He also said that corrosion was starting to appear on the subframe......but don't panic, no big problem yet, no holes, etc, just advising as I know you look after your cars. :y

So....happy bunny. ;)

Omega General Help / EM light flashed on
« on: 20 March 2017, 12:19:33 »
2.6 Elite Estate, 2001

After James fitted the tester crankshaft sensor, the car has been sat idle. Put new brakes on it all round and took it on a test run round the village just now. After about 5 miles, I turned left from a junction uphill, and as I was accelerating the EM light came on, the car felt like it hit a brick wall, but within a milli second, the light went out, and we took off like a bat out of hell. I did not notice any other lights on, just the one engine one.
Would this be connected to the crankshaft sensor problem. I know cheap ones don't last, but 5 miles !!!! I have not put a pucker one on yet, as it has to go for MOT. If it fails, it will be coming off the road, and won't go back on until July August at the earliest.
No codes registered with pedal trick.
Any ideas ??

General Car Chat / Tyres...but not whats the best !!!
« on: 14 March 2017, 22:42:48 »
Today I learn't something which I have never bothered about before. I did not know tyres have to be fitted a certain way round. Yesterday, I changed the wheels on my saloon, putting 17" ones on. When I went for MOT, the lad asked if I had had the wheels off. I asked why, and he said the nearside pair should be fitted to the offside and vice versa. :o
Are all tyres like this...I thought we used to swap them round in the old days to even the wear..diagonally, etc. Is this no longer the case.!!
He did not fail the car, because he said, don't worry about it, I'll soon change them round for you. :y
He also said, its all ok, passed no problems, great car and low mileage :)
