Omega General Help / A Beuatiful Day!
« on: 08 July 2010, 22:52:45 »
So, popped out tonight to the local garage to pick up some beer for consumption this evening......

Very expensive Beer!

Coming back along the Ring Road, I heard a noise which I didn't like.  I was only gently accelerating, but instantly backed off the throttle.  The noise went away but Battery light came on, steering went heavy.... Aux belt has stripped again (second time in 2 months).

I've only got 1/2 a mile until home, so ease the throttle back on and chance it home.  With that, at around 2.5k revs, the engine dies.  I pull to the side of the dual carriageway and hit the hazard switch.  On attempting to restart the engine, the motor turns over, but no compression.  A slight knocking noise (very faint) on turn-over (only heard from standing at the engine bay).

AA towed me home (I demanded they did, even though they said they couldn't because it was an Auto (It's 1/2 a mile)).

So, could the Aux Belt have worked it's way into the Cam Belt housing and FUBAR'd that, or is it a coincidence?

Whats the likely damage and repair bill?  Engine failed at 2.5k revs and turns over with only that slight knock.

Thanks for reading, and feel free to take the piss  ;D

Omega General Help / Aftermarket Alarm Issue
« on: 10 January 2010, 23:40:55 »
My Omega has an aftermarket Clifford CAT1 Alarm fitted.  It's a pain in the arse as I have to lock, then unlock the doors before ignition will become live.  Also, the transmitter only works when placed up against (or very close) to the drivers window glass.... I have replaced the battery in the transmitter to no avail.

I dont have any documentation which corresponds to the alarm, other than the installers certificate, so no code to turn this feature off.  The doors auto lock when the car is started, which is another annoyance.

The installer of the system is oop North, so not easy to go see them to find out how and where in the vehicle it would have been fitted.  I've had a good look under the dash (removing the panels and such), but no sign of the alarm can be found.

I'd like to know the likelihood of being able to remove this system (when I find it) and revert back to the good old Vauxhall Transmitter. (Which doesn't operate the door locks at present (Disconnected????))

NB: I haven't informed my insurance company that this system is fitted, so removing it wont affect the legalities of my Policy.

Omega General Help / Code 59. Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low
« on: 25 December 2009, 17:40:58 »
Omega 3.0 Elite (1998 'R') 155,000Miles.

As per thread title.

Paperclip tested the Barge earlier to determine why the EML is showing itself (All temperatures and driving styles, never goes out).

Code 59 - Intake Manifold Valve 1 Voltage Low.

Which Valve is Numero Uno? Is it the one at the front of the engine before the Ram setup, or is it the awkward bugger at the back?  Am I completely wrong in assuming it is one of these two valves at fault?

Anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it a case of replacing the unit, or can some cleaning / servicing be done to clear the problem?

TIA!  :y

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / AR35 Free To Collector
« on: 27 July 2010, 01:12:15 »
Auto Transmission AR35

Free to anyone who brings some tools to remove it.  Also, rear Differential if you wish.

Both of which worked perfectly until the cam belt gave up.  In actual fact, the box was smoother than my 'new' Omega which has much less mileage.

Transmission has done 160,000.  From a 1998 Omega 3.0 Elite.

Car is parked outside my house on a flat, level tarmac driveway.  If you want it, bring plenty of sheets/drip trays to catch fluids which will make use of gravity.

Car is located between Bristol and Bath.  It will be scrapped this coming weekend.  I dont have the space to keep it any longer. It is FREE because I dont have the time, or inclination to remove it and post it as a FOR SALE.

While you are here, if there is anything left on the car that you want, you are welcome to help yourself. (The only thing you cant take are the wheels which I will remove when it's being placed on the crusher wagon).  :y

Cars for Sale & wanted / [WANTED] Omega Saloon Elite 3.0
« on: 12 June 2011, 18:31:43 »
It's been 2 whole days without my Omega.

I swapped it for a 2.0 Focus and my god do I regret it.

I need another Omega, and soon.

Must be a 3.0, must be Saloon and must be Elite (with Bose and SatNav).

Not a big fan of the Facelift, so MFL preferred, but will consider anything which meets the above criteria.

Not bothered where it is in the country provided you are completely honest..... I don't want to travel 200miles and find out it's a shed.

Help me guys!  :y

« on: 24 June 2010, 20:59:42 »
Any colour, preferably dark though, must have leather, must have all the toys. MUST BE A 3.0.  Cant have a 2.5 after a couple of 3.0's.  Mini Facelift as I much prefer the look of them externally, and IMO, the Facelift dash centre console looks like any other modern car....... tacky.

1998/99 preferred, but would consider something slightly older if the money was right.

Please let me know what you have.  I am in Bristol, but will travel the length and breadth of the country for the 'right' car.

Price wise, not really an issue.  Obviously I wont pay over the odds, but if the car is mint, it's worth more than one which needs a little work. (I'm not afraid of a little work though).

Omega Gallery / BM's Omega
« on: 03 July 2010, 19:11:57 »
Seeing as I couldn't find anything to replace her with, she stays with me for the time being.

Here are a few pictures I took this afternoon after a bucket of water was thrown at her.  Next job is to valet the interior and sort the front bumper which has a few scrapes.  Oh, and bloody ABS ECU.

Any comments welcome  :y

General Car Chat / Astra G - Z16XE EGR Question
« on: 22 September 2011, 19:40:46 »
Hi Folks.

Astra G (2002 Z16XE)

My brothers Astra is running like a pig. I plugged it into my Diagnostic tester which gave P0400. EGR Valve at fault.

When I ran the EGR Solenoid test, the car stalled. Is that meant to happen? I am guessing at idle, if the EGR opens, the inlet receives hot air, so will stall..... BUT, if my Diag-Hardware can open the EGR, why is there a fault? Is it possible that the EGR isn't closing fully, causing the poor running but the ECU is telling Diag that the EGR is fully closed???????

My Diagnostic reports the EGR valve is closed at idle (which it should be) but still closed when under heavy acceleration...... is this right? I take it the ECU hasnt been updated to ignore the EGR else the fault code wouldnt have been flagged?

The other problem with the Diagnostic readout is O2 Sensor 1 Bank 1 is giving very odd fluctuating readings (fine then very low, fine then very low). O2 S1B2 is reading perfectly.

On Saturday I'll remove the EGR and the ICV and give them a good clean, but is there anything else I should be doing?

Sorry for the very fragmented post, I am confusing myself so god knows how you will be able to read it.  ;D

(as per OOF rules, I have removed the name of my Diagnostic technique)  :y

General Car Chat / Ta Ta Miggy, Hello CockMobile
« on: 09 July 2011, 18:28:35 »
As some of you may know, I've been getting a little bored of the Omega (Had 2 for the last couple of years) and fancy something different.

Well, I have taken other similarly sized cars for test-drives and didn't find anything that I liked.

Yesterday, a friend of mine offered me a car for such little money, I couldn't refuse.  Basically, the car cost me nothing..... we just swapped keys.

Bearing in mind my Omega was starting to suffer with Wishbones, one section of exhaust (mid section) was in need of replacing and the usual rust at the top edges of the doors was becoming more noticable.

So, I took the plunge and swapped with this; (sorry for pic quality, crap camera phone)

It's a 535i M Sport apparently so the logbook says.  Has a lovely V8 engine with superb power delivery... not quite as 'punchy' as the Omega V6 at low revs, but certainly pulls well once it's going and the sound it makes is awesome.  The seats are nowhere near as 'comfortable' as the Omega, but all-in-all, I have enjoyed thrashing it around the Bristol Ring-Road and Country B Roads today.

A couple of small issues to address though, the Temperature UP button on the Passenger side is missing and the pixels on the OBC (the one by the dash clocks) are all to cock, just a replacement cable required so I'm told.  Other than that, it is quite peachy for the age.  124k miles, BMW History up until 99k. 6 Months TAX and MOT was done a week ago with no Advisories.

I wanted a 7 Series, but nothing I could find was either cheap enough, or in good enough condition.  I hope I dont regret taking this 5 Series on, but only time will tell.

So, how big of a cock am I?
Opinions on things to look out for?
