Title: Rare sight indeed
Post by: BazaJT on 21 March 2019, 16:27:06
Just getting home from dog walking and heard a fairly throaty exhaust note followed very shortly after by the sight of a K reg Marcos Mantis :o It looked to be in absolutely mint condition in a dark bronze colour  :y :y Not very common when new,I can't recall the last time I actually saw one even at a classic car show.

I've not seen the Triumph engined one, that was local to me, for a while.

There used to be a Matra Bagheera - a car I've always fancied - around the corner too

I think that the only time I've ever seen these is on the a Marcos stand at the Le Mans classic. A rare old bird indeed!  :y

K reg will be from 1971/2........an extremely rare car.

Woodwork teacher at school around the same time owned a bright yellow Clan Crusader......which if memory serves came with an 875 cc lump from a Hillman Imp.

Yes, as was the Murena that replaced it. A car that had a better engine(not the rattly from new Simca pushrod thing), it wasn't quite as good looking although it rusted less. That said, it would be hard to think of anything that rusted more ;D

Correct.  :y

The only time I've seen one of them ... other than shows etc  .... was in the car sales place when I bought my Cavalier Coupe. (garage/sales place long since gone under a shopping precinct in Pompey.)

So many cars that were popular during my youth are now rarely seen.

I can't remember the last time I saw something as humble and common as a Cortina or Austin1100/1300.

a local guy has a morris1300,

this being Yorkshire no one throws anything away, ;D

I did spy a Talbot Sunbeam Lotus (if that is what it is called) quite recently.

Finished in black and silver it looked very smart.☺

I expect M'lud regrets getting rid of his Bentley like this one:

Saw an immaculate Wolsley 1500 yesterday on my way over to Stamford haven't seen one of those for years my guess it dates from late fifties early sixties, two tone beige & orange.

Proper Bentley that one Rods not a posh VW that they make these days. There's a good few classics round here on the road where my lock up is there's a Wolesley 1500 which lives outside on the driveway of the owner beside a '30s/'40s Wolesley at the same address. There's also a Triumph Herald Coupe at another house.See a couple of Stags and Spitfires knocking about on a regular basis. The Mantis though was a new "spot" for me.

Are you sure it was a Mantis ?  If so it was indeed a rare sighting and your eyes are probably still stinging ......

Or could it have been the more common Gt ?

I like that although the design is 'troubled'... :y

I believe the other Marcos was designed by 'the Adams family'..... :y

Always thought the Marcos design was lacking in something just not pleasing to the eye.( Mine)
