Vectra 3.2 pros/cons
« on: 03 December 2009, 19:12:48 »

I have a Omega 2.6 but want to add a Vectra 3.2. Does anyone have any ideas on the downside to owning apart from fuel/insurance. Thanks :D

Well use your inlet ducting off the 2.6, if you have auto I would recommend getting an AR35.

Might be easier to use an Omega 3.2 rather than the Vectra version

I am really beginning to hate that term now, why is half the forum calling it that?  :-/

3.2 VectraC has trouble putting the power down, 210bhp and FWD don't go well together. Its a much harsher ride as well, thanks to it being FWD.

It will be more expensive than the Omega to buy, insure, and run, it will eat through a set of fronts in no time.

If you want a VectraC, get the 1.9 CDTi and go for economy, if you want power, get the Omega.

Omega will out handle Vectra all day. (Ask any Police Driver) FWD understeer ultimately slower, and far less enjoyable to drive on limit, will always run wide. Softer suspension on Omega more predictable on less than perfect sufaces. 3.2 Vectra lighter than Omega but torque steer and difficulty getting power down offsets this, RWD and weight shifting under acceleration give Omega the edge. Also for me the heavy transverse engine shunt spoils the V6 vectra for me when you're used to in line trasmissions.

Try fitting a new alternator on a V6 V*ctra - you have to split the old one to get it out, then split the new one to fit it in then put it back together once the thing's almost in place. Really not a nice job.
I was really disappointed with my V6 V*ctra B - wanted one for years, got one went through two engines, an oil cooler, an alternator and gearbox selector switch. Had it 6 months, on the road for about 2.
When it drove, it was pretty quick, but handled pretty poorly compared to my MV6.
Ended up hating the bloody thing, ergo, ALL V*ctras are the work of Evangelists. :y
