General Car Chat / End of the road
« on: 27 January 2017, 13:08:33 »
Well I've finally given in with my old girl and she is now sadly sat at the side of the house awaiting my decision on what to do with her.

2001 2.6 estate

Question is should I try to sell her on or break her down. It's got to the point where I'm repairing something every other month and know the attendant at the fuel stations Birthday.

I know for a fact she needs two new tyres, new coil packs, new cam covers and seals, tracking, possible steering rack, gearbox fluid/filter change, new brakes and two new centre boxs. Plus rust is starting to take hold and I can't see the point in throwing money at her.

She was Cat c so I know she's not worth much whole so I'm thinking break her down 😞

Omega General Help / 2.6 fuel pump
« on: 14 December 2016, 23:26:35 »
I've just bought the fuel pump in the attached link for my 2.6 estate, I didn't read the listing properly as was recommended to me and was being lazy but it doesn't say it's for a 2.6.

Will this still be ok, only thing that appears different from what I remember is the wiring connector. The new pump has a proper connector that would need splicing into the old wiring but it looks the same. Can anyone verify that this will do the job before I go and change it tomorrow??

I'm not 100% sure I do need this as not proven this is the problem but does anyone have a working fuel pump for a 2.6 auto estate, 2001??

Omega General Help / 2.6 Broken Down Again
« on: 07 December 2016, 19:31:52 »
Ok folks need a little help as I'm lost and losing the will to live with the old girl.

I posted the other week where I had a fault and the car wouldn't start, only for it to start after a few hours stood and a gallon of fuel (even though it wasn't empty).

Some suggested crank sensor and I tempted fate as she ran fine for a week then wouldn't start on leaving work last night. I bought a new sensor and have just fitted it however still nothing. She turns over but doesn't fire at all.  I've checked for codes and have the following:

1613 immobiliser
0150 02 sensor
0560 system voltage
0135 sensor heater circuit

Anyone help would be appreciated as can't live without a car and can't afford a garage

Omega General Help / Urgent advice, broken down.
« on: 26 November 2016, 14:47:00 »
Afternoon Chaps, I hope someone can advise me on this. Just drive my 2.6 for about 8 miles with no problems. Pulled up at shopping complex and went in for about half hour on returning the car fired up, juddered and stopped. I did it again and it did exactly the same, over and over again.

I can't hear the fuel pump kicking in when I put the key in so I checked all the fuses under the dash but can't see any problem with them. Fuel gauge is saying 1/4 tank which should be right from when I filled up.

Has anyone got any ideas what could be causing this, where is the fuse for the fuel pump and am I correct in saying it should make a noise when the ignition is turned on?

Omega General Help / 2.6 Radiator
« on: 18 October 2016, 11:02:55 »
Hopefully someone can advise.

My radiator sprung a serious leak yesterday on my 2001 2.6 auto estate. I ordered a new one from my car parts supplier and they got me a Nissens 63073a rad.

Got the old girl home last night and on stripping her down I found that my rad is different from the one supplied. Mine has an independent oil cooler separate from the main radiator where as the radiator provided is like the old style with the oil cooler connectors in the end of the radiator.

I have rung them this morning and their supplier is only listing one type rad and they are saying this is the correct one. I'm positive it isn't correct but could someone advise??

Omega General Help / 2.6 Air Bag Light
« on: 21 August 2016, 15:23:49 »
Hopefully someone can advise me on this one.

Some time ago my steering wheel squid decided to collapse and when it did my airbag light came on. I picked up a good second hand one from unlucky Alf and have eventually got round to fitting it this afternoon as my mot is due to tomorrow morning.

Changing went ok, and it was an identical swop. However on reassembly the air bag light is still on. Should this turn itself off or do you need a ready to get rid. Or maybe there's another fault??

Your advise would be appreciated as I know it will fail tomorrow due to the light being on, oh it's a 2001 2.6 estate

Omega General Help / Strange Radio Question
« on: 19 June 2016, 03:23:46 »
Ok, this is a complete weird question.

My omega is a 2001 2.6 Auto Estate

Went out this afternoon shopping and got home around 5pm, car parked on drive as usual, shopping removed and car locked. All windows shut and radio/cd turned off!!!!

Visitors arrived about 8.30 nothing usual outside, visitors left as 12.30 and notices stereo on the car booming out music. Unlocked car, turned radio off and relocated car.

Went to bed and woke at 3.15am to music blaring out outside, here's me thinking I wish that taxi would piss off only to realise/dawn on me is it my car. Locked out of the window and could see radio lights on through car window. Went down opened car sure enough it was on and blaring out.

Turned radio off, turned engine on then off and radio on. Turned volume down and turned radio on/off multiple times, no issues. Got out locked car and no radio.

What would cause the radios/cd to come on of its own accord, is this even possible???

Omega General Help / Broken Down 2.6
« on: 06 May 2016, 08:31:39 »
Ok here's a weird one for you with more knowledge. 2.6 auto 2001.

I was driving along at 30 when we entered the 60 zone I accelerated slightly and the whole engine cut out. No eml light on so I just rolled it into the nearest entrance and tried to restart. The engine just turns over and does not fire at all.

Turned ignition off and back on and I noticed the eml is not lighting up at all even on just turning the ignition on which I thought it did. Tried pedal check and still no eml. Car still just turning over like there's no fuel however I've just put £40 in and yes I've checked the receipt it was petrol lol

I've phoned green flag to get her sorry butt dragged home but with no eml I have no idea where to start, any ideas ???

Omega General Help / More Fault Codes
« on: 03 April 2016, 14:09:11 »
Ok this one is strange. My 2001 2.6 started acting strange.

Occasionally on start up she would just die straight after starting and bring the eml on. Try restarting and she just turns over. However leave it a couple of minutes and she fires straight up and runs fine, on checking the fault codes I get the following:

1110 Intake manifold valve voltage
1612 Immoboliser no or wrong signal Immoboliser
1613 Immoboliser no or wrong signal Immoboliser

I have no idea what any of these are and could cause, any ideas folks???

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted - 2.6 Rear Multi-ram
« on: 12 March 2016, 21:22:20 »
As above really looking for a rear multi-ram for my 2.6.

It's the part that bolts to the rear of the plenum, has two bolts retaining it, two small bore hoses and a power connector that goes into it.

Omega General Help / 2.6 Advice
« on: 12 March 2016, 14:16:53 »
Ok I'm replacing the heater bypass valve on my 2.6 2001. I e removed scuttle and plenum and just fastening last spring clip on hose when I leant on the plenum and I heard a crack.

I had forgot to remove multi plug from the connector at the back right hand side of plenum. Question A what is this and question B will it run without it while I source a new one. Connector is fine, the part has broke in two separating the Diode and wires inside. Feel an idiot for not removing it and thought things were going well.

I've searched all my parts and think I left my only spare on the plenum I binned.

As above, anyone got a steering wheel squib for a 2001 2.6 estate??

Omega General Help / 2.6 V6 2001 Various Fault Codes
« on: 11 February 2016, 13:05:56 »
My old girl (2001 2.6 estate) has recently started misbehaving. I've done a code read this morning and found the following:

1700 - service vehicle soon request from transmittion control module

0500 - vehicle speed sensor malfunction B-009

0390 - Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

0303 - cyclinder 3 misfire detected

Car had been running fine and doesn't feel to have a misfire ticks over great, set off from lights this morning and car juddered bringing eml light on. Rolled it into lay-by and switched off, gave it a minute then restarted with no eml on. Drove car rest of way in and no problems.

Any ideas people or suggestions?

Oh and in another weird scenario was manovering into my drive and turning the steering and the steering almost locked on turning then there was like a cracking noise (plastic sound) from the steering housing and it then drove fine. Then two days later it did it again but afterwards the air bag light came on??.....any suggestions with this?
