Title: Jockular Omegas III
Post by: hotel21 on 10 April 2007, 00:32:08
OK, its early doors after JO-II but plans are afoot....

How about this??  No contacts actually made yet, just an idea over a burger and some laughs today at Loch Lomond.....

Vintage Bus Museum near Kelty on M90 motorway, approx midway between Forth Bridge and Perth.  Knockhill Race Circuit approx 5 miles away....  Follow the links below.

How about that then, Baldrick, for a cunning plan???
Not the best of websites but we could probably sort out something as regards a (large) aircraft hanger to do work in as well as having a meet....  Also camping space with loos (no showers though) and in the middle of approximately nowhere, so noise of an evening is no problem.....
vintage bus museum (http://www.busweb.co.uk/svbm/Home.htm)
but with this (http://www.knockhill.com/) just 5 miles up the road??
with the assorted contacts we now know we have, could possibly sort something out?
Sounds like a plan to me :y
Cambelt party it is then :)
Great idea. 20k miles before I need another cambelt change (approx 6 mths) but loads of other things I could use the space for...
Exhaust.... brake discs... oil change.... breathers... wishbones... etc.
Count me in.
Dave

Nice enough, scenic enough and easy enough to get to for all OOF who want to, be you either north or south.  With a bit of planning, we could possibly get a weekend entertainment of some description sorted out, for those who do not want to swing spanners.  Karting and similar available at Knockhill, executive retail therapy on Princes Street, Edinburgh, a wee bit south for those who must...  Could lay on a minibus for those who want it to Edinburgh...

I'm up for that, do they rent the hangers out for the day so that we can get all the cars undercover to work on :)

definately an interesting one for me, although i would ask for it NOT to be in August, the missus is expecting baby in mid August so would prefer either July or before or September or after :)

Will definately be making it to this one :)

An overnighter with camp fire, bbq, beers and burgers sounds good to me!!  :y

Not much use iunder the bonnet, but certainly willing to learn, anyone want to toy around with my car? lol

That bus Museum has a classic car show around the 20th June every year.

I know a couple of people with units up there and one of my old next door neighbours is one of the curators there.

Real nice place.

If I can help, let me know.

Fairly certain draper don't sell v6 ones. v6 ones are more than the £5 camlocks used on twin cam engines. Ebay is usually cheapest, expect to pay between £50 and £70 + p&p.  Seen them in shops for around £150.

Mine is an SP one.

Cam belt party ........ sounds good, but needs to be in the next 7K miles for me.   ;)  ;)
I'm pretty sh1te with the tools, but always willing to learn .... and eat burgers.
Only problem is if it is the weekend of 16/17 June, thats a definate no - no for me.
Not sure about letting SWMBO on princess street for some retail therapy either ....... I maybe cheaper taking the motor to the stealers for a cambelt change.  :-[  :-X  :-[
At this point count me in.   :y  :y  :y

No dates suggested yet.  I intend to go to the 'bus museum this weekend and see what I can manage to blag/arrange as regards garage space.

Might be worth trying to set something up in conjunction with some KH events, since its only a couple of miles up the road....

**** Update ****

I finally managed to track someone down who looks after the bookings etc for the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond (http://www.busweb.co.uk/svbm/).  It is only a couple of miles from Kelty junction of the M90 motorway.  A number of other vehicle enthousiast groups use the site on various weekends for meetings as well.

We can camp onsite for a minimal cost (£1 per head per night) and there is a small function hall we could use on the saturday night, if we wish, for an equally minimal cost (£1.50 per head).  A toilet block (only) is a short walk from the camping area.  No showers.

I am told that they will try to accomodate hanger space for work to be done on cars but, unfortunately, cannot be guaranteed.  Ample hard standing is available though to work on the cars and we could use gazebo type afairs if its wet.  Own tools and kit would be needed.

Knockhill Racing Circuit  (http://www.knockhill.com/)is only 4 miles away and there are various events ongoing.

Museum dates that are available are:

11th to 13th May (same weekend as The Scottish Motorshow Live at Knockhill)
1st - 3rd June (June Bikefair, bike racing at Knockhill on the Sunday)
6th - 7th July (nowt showing for KH)
13th - 15th July (Scottish Championship bike racing at KH)

I'm away for both July dates and if we want to use the first date (11th to 13th May) then we need to get going....

I'll put up a poll for dates once I work out how to do it!

B

The only date of meet listed I can make is this weekend, all the others I am booked elsewhere.....  This weekend is basically burst as far as Lathalmond goes as the keyholder person went away on hols Saturday past.  As there was no apparent interest, its all gone a bit quiet....

If anyone else wants to persue a meet elsewhere on alternate dates, thats no prob.  By the sound of things Iain, you need your belt kit done asap....

How bigs your driveway?   :-?

hi,

My driveway fits 3 cars, theres currently 5 in the family. MY mum would go nuts if I stripped it here, hence why im looking to get together somewhere, she's had enough of me ripping landrovers too bits over the years on it.

However, my gran has a small holding that would hold 6/7 cars, and theres a garage that u can get the car into. Would need to know when ur looking at though?

Cheers,
Iain

Doesn't look too bad. Front end needs new bumper, wing, bonnet, lights etc. but it's w-reg 2000 with 99k on the clock and although it's in great nick may just be beyond economical repair :(

I was one of seven or eight vehicles that got hit by a 10 foot long steel portacabin support leg which had become detached from the lorry it was being transported on. Unfortunately the leg itself was still connected to the lorry by an eight foot chain. The lorry was travelling in the opposite direction to us through the very narrow roadworks on the A8000. The driver seemed oblivious to the problem as the leg was cartwheeling through the vehicles alongside him. How it didnt go through my windscreen I'll never know but I managed to brake and swerve so that it just hit the front of my car. It had hit 5 other vehicles in front of mine and a couple behind me too. In the melee several of us ran into the back of each other and I collected a corsa as a bonnet mount  ;D.

Time to look for another meega methinks.

I've kinda lost track of this... so what goes? Obviously the may date is out as it's passed, I can't do either of the first two weekends in June as I'll be in San Diego, and the weekend of 7th-8th July is T in the Park so that's a definite no. Other than that I should be available ;)

To recap on whats gone on, the available Lathalmond (Kelty, M90 m/way) dates are as listed in the poll.

Due to family commitments, I cannot guarantee being available on any specific weekend, almost until the last moment, for the forseable future.....   :-X   :(

It basically now needs someone to propose/arrange/coordinate a venue and date and guage the response thereafter.

Not particularly...   :y

Just seems that interest has dropped substantially.  At Loch Lomond the general talk, unless I picked it up wrongly, was to have another meet and get some work done as well as having, possibly, an overnight or at least a few beers.  I suggested Lathalmond, knowing it has the space and possible access to covered work area, irrespective of whether the concensus was a burger and a blether or a spanners and all day out....

If anyone has any alternate suggestions as to a venue, then lets hear them......  I have no particular preference as to where or what format, just that my weekends are at a premium these days....   :y

Just wondering if England meets Scotland in June is preventing people seeing beyond then, hence lack of interest? The lakes should be by far the biggest meet we've done here, so possibly understandable that some peeps are focused on that?

That could well be the case, TB.  There are one or two who need work done sooner rather than later though..... :-/

Sorry i have not been on much to do with the next meet of the jocular's but had a series of close family problems that have really taken my mind off the ball.

Cannot commit to any thing as may be needed to travel at short notice down South.

Really wish i could give you a lot more support but family musts at the moment.

My meega is still at the bodyshop waiting for the assessor to read it it's last rites  :'(

Still... my hire car is big enough to hold a cambelt party in!

Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD. It's big, it's boxey and... it's ..... well, crap really.

I agree - as long as you bring tech II Jamie  ;) - maybe put this on hold till lakes where those that are there can discuss the groundings and pitch it back here?

I need to assess the level of demand before I bring up one of the units - I suspect space in the car will be at a premium, as she will want to bring the kitchen sink!

Okay...Keswick has been and gone. And was a massive massive success.....

So now - as Brucie and I chatted about at the lakes - we need to get JockOmegas3 going again....

So lets start by thinking of a venue ( central) to ensure all can attend.....

Stirling / Callander / anywhere else? ?

ps if the need arises i can start a new thread on this  :y

Any interest?

There is a Classic car meet at Callander 0n August 26/27 2007. I will be going on the Saturday, any of the jocks going to be there as well?
Would not expect many Omegas there on the stands but it would be nice to meet up with any one there. The link is here.http://www.callanderclassic.com/body_CCW.htm

Would not expect the organisers to allow for a cam change in the field but could try out a barby. :y

Well a bit ad hoc but that is 3 of us interested. Can only make the Saturday as Mrs. DaveL and I are then on our holiday to Devon...Hope the weather is not as bad as last weekend at Glamis. Up to your elbows in mud.

Will be bringing a Swiss friend along to see some classics. He by the way did have, up to last weekend, an A.C. Cobra, not I may add a kit car. Unfortunately he ran out of road and smashed the car up. It is being sent back to Switzerland.
Any way might get him interested in getting a decent car... ;D ;D ;D

Will try to be at the parking by 10.30 hrs. Usually a good selection of eats at the event but will be bringing a camping stove.

I ended up buying two sets recently due to a mix up with the local parts supplier. They are brand new MINTEX still boxed. Any reasonable offer accepted and I'll make a special effort to get up to Callander at the weekend to deliver them! :y

My beastie decided to spew its water puddens out this afternoon - looks like the heater bypass valve - but will need to strip some bits to be sure.

As a result, cannot say for sure if I will be there or not.  May have to use the bike or her car, rather than mine, depending on what I find in the morning.

Hope you have a good day, in case I can't make it.   ;)

Just got logged on today... I wasn't going to make Saturday anyway as I went down to my folks' on Friday night so I could get a few things done on both cars Saturday morning (change drop link on BMW, replace rear multi-ram on Omega, etc) but the iffy weather held me back a bit so I was working well into the afternoon. Seems that the day was cancelled anyway.... oh well, time to start planning for the next meet :D

Hey all, sorry to here about the lack of support at this event :(
I have found in the past, with other clubs/forums,that mini-meets seem to be well attended, but bigger ones are a bit hit and miss.

I for one,as a new Omega Jock owner, would love to meet up with other Scot's.

Cheers

Hi Iain,

There are plenty of us around. Perhaps we could arrange a Fife n Kinross mini-meet at the auctions next time an omega comes up? We could point and laugh at the punters buying inferior products  ;D

Hotel21 (Broocie) and DaveL aren't too far away.. anybody interested?

OK, bit of a lastminute.com thing, but what about a mini meet at Kinross services this Sunday, say about 1400, with a posibility of moving towards Balado (T in the Park country, 1 mile along the road) if I can swing it??

IainV6 wants a few clever ears to listen to his noisy car....
Markie wants to share out his birthday cake with the guys...
H12DVY has a new car he wants to show off......
PaulM wants to show off his gas converted MV6....
DaveL wants reassurance that he does actually have some mates....   :y
H21 wants to move onto JockularOmega IV.....
Phate321 wants to buy everyone a cuppa..... (not! ;))
PaulC wants a run out from East Calder....
Jim needs to decide whether its the black one or the silver one or to stay daaarrn saaafff and miss again...  ;)
Kev wants to keep Jim company so neither get lost.....  :-*
H21 wants someone else to organise JO4....   ;D

Lets move on, peeps.  Life too short...   ;)   ;D

well as they say that was that then, Jockular Omegas III finally over. Just got back in but I thought that the pole dancer was a bit over the top. Sorry for all of the guys and gals that could not make it.

Arrived at a very wet Kinross to find Bruce and Davy hiding in Bruce's car out of the rain. Rob (phat321) then arrived but went in to the services so thinking that he was going to get the drinks in we followed.

On the way over Bruce managed to push a forum leaflet underneath a wiper on an Omega parked up. The driver though did not appreciate this as he was on the telephone as Bruce was accosting the car.

Very nice to see the others and to see Davy's new motor in the flesh. Very nice and clean, what it will be like in another few weeks is another story.

So finally this thread can be put to bed, looking forward to the next Jockular meet, been told there is a nice telephone box on the A9 between Perth and Inverness. ;D ;D ;D

We were looking for quality here Jim not quantity. ;D ;D

Total of 4, Me (DaveL), Hotel21 (Bruce),H12DVY (Davy) and Rob (Phat321). Plus a chap in a parked Omega, on his phone, posted by Bruce. So a potential new member. :y

Not a very good turn out but not bad, a lot better than at Callander. :-[

Dave.

We did lift the bonnet of Bruce's motor and Davy's new one. Compared a few notes and closed their lids. Did not think the management at the services would appreciate us swopping engines in the car park. Might have sorted out Bruces' front ram problem though. ;)

Four people, is that it. Surely we can't class that as JO III, perhaps JO 2.5 Mini Intermediate meet ;D ;D

I wasn't there so it doesn't count :P

Anybody want to do it all again for IainV6's benefit?  :y

The OOF fleeces were no use in that weather I'm afraid - although that is an interesting shade of pink Broocie!   :-*

Special Edition OOF Snorkel and Mask available for next meet    ;D

I don't know!!! I wasn't there so I personnel think it didn't happen and it didn't count as a proper meet, there was only 4 cars,!!!! so I think it was J.O 2.5, but I think the rest of the J.O's might have something diffrent to say :P

To me, it was quality rather than quantity.....   :P

If, for whatever reason, you were unable to answer the call of the fiery cross then its upto someone else to get the Scottish Bluebells out and start the new thread of Jockular Omega's IV .......   ;D
