General Discussion Area / Crossfire on multiple monitors
« on: 10 November 2009, 09:46:19 »
Ok one for the techies.

This was actually a question my mate had but as I am looking to go down the route one day I thought I would ask the experts on here.  Neither of us can find anything relevantly helpful on the subject.

We are looking at Crossfiring 2 ATi 4670s and using two monitors.  Would it be better to not crossfire them and use as independant cards?

General Discussion Area / Central heating and landlords
« on: 10 November 2009, 07:39:00 »
As previously mentioned on another thread I have been without heating for the last 5 weeks after the gas inspector broke the boiler.  Maintenance on my property is sub contracted and I have one of their longest running complaints open on their file about this.

The first engineer came and ordered a new fan, a week later it arrived.  It was the exact same fan but it wouldent fit properly.  So a new seal was ordered. That took 2 weeks to arrive, but a different engineer came and said it needed a different fan.  Now they are talking about replacing the boiler some time this or next week.

Hot water is provided through an immersion boiler and they have provided 2 small space heaters for our rooms.  The living room has an electric fake fire thingy.

My question is, does anyone know where I stand vis-a-vis the law and obtaining compensation for this.  I have fallen ill twice since the heating has been off, before which I had only been ill once this year.  There must be something about provision to tennants but I can only find info about gas safety certificates.

General Discussion Area / Parrots!
« on: 03 November 2009, 11:37:25 »
A lady goes to her priest one day and tells him, 'Father, I have a problem.  I have two female parrots, But they only know how to say one thing.'

'What do they say?' the priest inquired.

They say, 'Hi, we're hookers!  Do you want to have some fun?'

That's obscene!' the priest exclaimed,
Then he thought for a moment.
'You know,' he said,  'I may have a solution to your problem.
I have two male talking parrots, Which I have taught to pray and read the Bible. Bring your two parrots over to my house, And we'll put them in the cage with Francis and Peter. My parrots can teach your parrots to praise and worship, And your parrots are sure to stop saying . ..
That phrase . . In no time.'

Thank you,' the woman responded,  'this may very well be the solution.'

The next day, She brought her female parrots to the priest's house. As he ushered her in,  She saw that his two male parrots Were inside their cage holding rosary beads and praying. Impressed, She walked over and placed her parrots in with them.

After a few minutes, The female parrots cried out in unison: Hi, we're hookers!  Do you want to have some fun?'

There was stunned silence.

Shocked, One male parrot looked over at the other male parrot
And exclaimed, 'Put the beads away, Frank. Our prayers have been answered!'

General Discussion Area / Cyclists
« on: 02 November 2009, 18:38:15 »
Ok, for starters I am an avid cyclist in that I cycle all weathers and times of day and night.  It keeps me fit and burns enough calories for a couple of beers :y

I obey all rules of the road, I am curtious towards other road users, I make sure I use lights even during the day, hi-vis vest and I cycle very very defensively.  I lost my brother and a friend in separate incidents while both were cycling so raod safety is a big thing for me.

But I am getting increasing peeved with other cyclists who flaunt the laws cycling on pavements, riding in the dark without lights, going through red lights..... it really grips my sh!t  >:(

So I have devised a little questionaire as research on the matter.  Results will be hidden till closing.  Looking forward to your opinions :y

General Discussion Area / Paris
« on: 25 October 2009, 22:04:20 »
I have just gotten back from Paris, a place I lived in for 5 years and I knew very very well.  I am fluent in french so I get to know all the good places as the Parisians think I am french, anyway.

A friend took me to a restaurant today which I had never heard of called 'Chez Paul' near Opera......

....Wow!

Now I wouldent call myself one of these gastro-snobs but I do know my food and wine.  I was pretty much told by my friend exactly what I was going to eat and by god I was blown away.  Escargots, perfectly cooked (not easy, only the second time ever i have had them cooked this well) and Peppered Steak with Potatoes Dauphinoises.  Well, I was in food heaven, never before have I ever some across food that good and of course the obligatory Crème Brulé just rounded off a perfect meal.  You may think that this type of food comes at a high price?  Well the Steak was only 20€! :o

They can be slightly fussy as to who eats there, Karl Lagerfeld is a regular and if you get to eat upstairs they like you as it is normally reserved for people in 'the club'.  So I wouldent turn up in a footy shirt and jeans!  So if you are ever in Paris I would seriously recommend it:

I am looking for a bit of advice from the experts on here.  IT build quality varies from time to time.  When I was really into this stuff Seagate and maxtor were considered the best for reliability, nowadays I dont know...

I am looking at beefing up my PC when I am next in the US.  I reckon I will need 2-3TB (the missus has a lot of music and I have a lot of films)

Which makes/models do people recommend?  I will be there for Thanksgiving where the sales are just ridiculously good !  :y

TIA  :y

Hopefully as well as playing around with the sails I should be able to catch a few fish for supper too ::)

See you this evening (I hope!) ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Sometimes I dont know why I bother.....
« on: 15 October 2009, 20:17:48 »
...making myself super visible when I cycle.

Part of getting fit and ready for next year's triathlon I am cycling to work.  It's only a couple of miles but I make sure I beast myself.

Having lost my brother 19 years ago while he was riding his bike I am super safety conscious on the road.  It was about 1730 so just turning on daylight so I had my high vis vest on along with high intensity flashing rear LED and super bright flashing front light (and the helmet of course)

I cycle defensively albeit fast and I know when to assert my position on the road and when to sit back and wait.  I follow all rules of the road, and when I mean all I mean all yet my commute is only 2 mins longer than in a car!  Of course there are the health benefits but also the environmental, financial, etc.

Approaching a junction at about 18mph I signal boldly I am turning left, I check behind to make sure I have been seen, I make eye contact with cars waiting at the junction.  The on-coming car turning right however either does not see me or decides to go anyways causing me to brake and swerve.

Lets not forget I was knocked off a few weeks ago.... why the break do I bother?  Should I sit about getting fattter, paying through the nose and contributing to congestion?  It's not like I am a rogue cyclist causing mayhem!  Sometimes I just want to grab drivers out of their seats and bash 7 bells out of them!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / Some think they are so clever.....
« on: 07 October 2009, 18:01:20 »
Cycling to local Halfrauds to get a new derailer I was happily overtaking heavy traffic or getting through using the bus lane.  Approaching a roundabout I am turning right, a kid with no shirt on (or muscles) comes up along my left hand side in a 'blue' 206 with the window down "Just to let you know for your next trip, your rear wheel is following your front one!"  He grins so I pull the single ear piece out and say " Sorry mate I had the w@**er filter in my ear, by the way how is your mum's car working out for ya?"  His mate fell about and he drove off miffed.

General Discussion Area / Women, know your place!
« on: 06 October 2009, 16:46:23 »
WOMEN WHO KNOW THEIR  PLACE

Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul,
Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict.

She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands.

Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy to maintain the old custom.

Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked,  'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?'

The woman looked  Ms.Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said,

 "Land  Mines."

Moral of the story  is (no matter what language you speak or where  you go):

BEHIND EVERY MAN,  THERE'S A SMART  WOMAN.
