Anyone not aware there is a match at Twickenham in support of Help for Heros, a cause close to my heart, and its being broadcast on SKy Sports 3 right now.

Promises to be a good match with some of the old and bold playing including Martin 'The Unit' Johnson and Jason 'Speedy Gonzales' Robinson.

If you're going to watch help out by buying a braclet at your Post Office, online or donate what you can.

Many thanks  :y

General Discussion Area / Immigration: Indefinite leave to remain....
« on: 09 September 2008, 08:55:31 »
Just been researching this for my american wife who works in the UK and pays her tax and NI there.  The cost of getting indefinite leave to remain in the UK after paying $500 for the marriage visa in the first place is:

£950!!!!!  :o :o :o :o :o   (not including the Britishness test charge  >:()

To say I am shocked is an understatement.  Regardless of the fact that I serve my country et al the missus, who came here legally, abides by all UK laws and its, sometimes, bizarre customs has already paid several hundreds of pounds for various visas and we still have to pay this charge!

WTF!!!!!!  >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / New car
« on: 31 August 2008, 12:21:56 »
Hi all,

I have been a bit quiet recently as I have been busy testing and researching getting a new car.  As some of you are aware the CO didn't like my non-officer like motor.  On top of which the missus wont let me go on another tour without a new car as she doesnt trust the miggy not to develop a problem while I am away not to mention I dont trust the german spanner heads around here.

So I was very interested in the new Audi TT coupe but I am concerned about space inside should we ever have the chance to start a family or when we receive guests (the 2 'seats' in the back are a waste of space and would be better used enlarging the boot!)

I then came across a Jag XF with 3k on the clock.  Its a 2.7 td Premium Luxury packed with extras going for only £24.5k  (tax free plus a massive discount of around £7k)

I test drove it yesterday and its a dream to drive (and yes its proper wheel drive)  I havent tested the Audi yet due to various work problems but I am guessing it is a 'driving' car with a low center of gravity and plenty of grip.  I have had a play inside and I must admit I didnt like the interface, which isnt touch screen (unlike the jag's)

The only downside to the Jag is the insurance for which the only quote I have had so far is £1100 (British Forces Germany insurance - obligatory thus they rip us off in a criminal way)  whereas the TT is only £600  (about the same as the Omega)

This does mean I will have no choice but to get rid of the omega  :'(  which pains me because I love it, but I cant justify spending the insurance on the 2 cars.

I have to put the deposit down tomorrow if I want the jag.

What do you think?  Mistake?

General Discussion Area / Anyone for a payrise?
« on: 23 August 2008, 22:39:29 »
Now if you thought I was getting one youre having a laugh!  But here's a joke:

A maid goes to the lady of the house and asks for a payrise.
"Why do you think you deserve a payrise?" The lady asks.
"Because I clean better than you" The maid replies.
"Who said that?"
"Your husband"
"Oh really?"
"Yes, he also says I cook better than you"
"Really?!  Anything else?"
"Yes I screw better than you too"
"My husband told you that?!?" the lady screams,
"No, the gardener did"

She got the payrise.  :y

General Discussion Area / Finally arrived in.......

New York!!

Left Heathrow in Sunday using the companion passes that my wife gets being a Trolly Dolly, arrived in Chicago for our connection and flights were cancelled all over the place!  Ice Storms in New Jersey apparently!  Thats the problem with company passes, you are on standby which means if 1st class is available you get it.  If there is no space at all then do one!  :(

So stayed with some friends for a couple of nights in Chicago, not a bad thing as the Windy City is brill.  Finally arrived in NY so I can get my first taste of the big apple - time to put away the good manners for a few days! :D

Off to Washington next, I hope the flights are better this time!  Jimbob reply to this thread at yoour peril!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nearly finished the topsides and painting.  Soon will be turning the boat to finish the hull, paint it fit the rub rails, ancils and put to the water..... that is once I wire up the motor... result!  :y :y
