Can pay to tighten bolts slightly before trying to back them out. Not a guarantee that they won't still shear, but it can be enough to unfreeze them.  ;)

You might as well anoint them in in Trade Club oil and wear a genuine crank sensor as a lucky charm while you're at it.

It is quite often the difference between unscrewing an Airbus screw and replacing a floor panel because the insert has twisted out.

It hasn't failed me thus far ;)

The same procedure is used on external panel screws, after you've dug the grot out of the slots, added some grip paste and found your newest and sharpest screwdriver. Then you get the drill because using an impact driver on thin aluminium parts isn't a solution.

Long steel bolts through tight holes in untreated aluminium suspension components are much harder to drill out ::)

Don't know about tightening first, but I always found a sharp whack to the middle of the bolt head with a suitable punch, followed by a squirt of magic oil did the trick. Sometimes.

Tried all of the above, but this thing is beyond any normal level of tightness.
Hub will have to come of, and may well need replacing becuase the threads are shagged.  :(

Started prepping the Boxster for MOT. Started removing one of the rear calipers, which are held in place by a pair of 12mm diameter hex bolts.
One bolt came out without too much effort. The second could only be moved using a two foot breaker bar and all my weight / might pushing on it.
Got to a certain point and then the head wrung off the bolt. Christ knows how I am going to get it out now.
I think I might have to remove the hub so I can hold the bolt in a vice and then unwind the hub from the bolt.  :(

Porsche learnt how to do that from their Audi cousin. Or they found a stash of British Leyland spec bolts.

You haven't lived until you've had to remove a seized Lupo caliper bolt. VW, in their infinite wisdom, having integrated the slider mechanism into the internal allen bolt. Then decided to make them out of Dairylea, sprayed silver.

Meanwhile, in Zeke land, I've now done some brake line plumbing. I would have had it all done but for VX deciding to use two different sizes of union around the system, only one of which I had in stock...
