last blades I bought were from Halfords for SWMBO's Citroen (out of convenience) They were a make - can't remember now, but when opened found that the part of the fitting kit I needed for one blade was missing. I couldn't be ar$ed taking them back so cobbled the original OE clip to the new blade. It works but they now don't match but SWMBO is happy ....

??? I've bought more expensive blades in the past, and found their performance and durability wasn't different enough to justify the expense.

I expect the overcoat I bought nearly twenty years ago to be shabby enough to need replacing in another couple of decades. But I'll be over seventy, so will probably just continue to wear it. Although it might not fit by then ::)

When I was almost home from work this morning Pierre suddenly started making some very strange noises.
Obviously carried on regardless, and was surprised it got me home.
Had a look a while ago and found its shredded its aux drive belt, which has wrapped itself tightly around the bottom pulley.  ::)
Also noticed it has an oil leak from somewhere and about half a litre down on the dipstick.
Just been to Eurocraprats for a belt, a litre of oil, and a can of brake cleaner to clean the oil off the engine.
Thats tomorrow morning sorted then.  ::)
I could get at least half what it cost me back in scrap value if it really does go bang, but of course then have to find another economical commuter car , which probably means selling the Boxster, which I dont want to do yet.

My son bought his first car, a 2001 Punto 6 years ago for £350. The head gasket has just gone and the local scrappy has offered him £375 for it.  ;D

Belts do not shred for no reason, so check carefully to find the root cause   :y

Thanks, will do. I know it got a lot of oil on it earlier in the year when the cam oil seal was leaking badly. It might even be leaking again now as it is losing a bit from somewhere.  ::)
Starting to think about Swan Vestas again.  :)

Surely, with the excess on the policy, you'd owe them money?  ;D

A true Frenchman wouldn't bother with trivialities such as insurance. Because he is French  :D

Insurance value a couple of months ago was £1925. I paid £700 for it three years ago.  ;D

He'll have insurance, and all the other stuff that bureaucracy demands. Because he is French.

What he won't have done is serviced the car. Or washed it. Or treated it as anything other than a tool that he detests spending money on. Because he is French

Surely leaving it in some less-than-salubrious part of town with the keys on hand would be the best solution then. Some enterprising young gentlemen will no doubt take it off your hands...  :y
