I had an interesting experience last month whilst renewing the insurance on the Omega .
As it's 22 years old now it's able to be insured as a classic.
I called a well know Irish Classic insurer , FBD , and asked for a quote .
We went through the motions and before she gave me a figure she tersly says " you know this policy only allows you to drive to and from a classic car show and perhaps a short sunday evening drive ...."
Really says I in a quizzical way ....
" and if you have an accident and we find shopping in the car then you will not be insured ."
So I asked what if we are driving back from a classic car show , on a sunday evening ... and I stop for petrol and my wife goes into the shop and buys a loaf of bread and a pint of milk ?
"You would have to prove that it was she who purchased it and not you . "
I actually slowly and deliberatly hung up the phone at this point .
Anyway , I was recommended an insurer in the North , Abbey Autoline , and after a refreshingly pleasant conversation with the girl there they gave me an excellent quote that includes everything that I was being quoted for elsewhere for just over a third of the price , with agreed value too.
If I could only reduce the road tax by the same amount ....
