Can you fit a Walbro uprated fuel pump to a V6?
« on: 18 August 2009, 12:39:08 »

Hi, was thinking of uprating the standard fuel pump in my car to a walbro item as the original one is on its way out, has anyone done this before?

As i said in my post, the standard one is on the way out, rather than simply replace it with the standard item i wanted to uprate it, hoping to put a 4bar fpr in aswell, surely it will be an improvement on the standard item.Has anyone done this?

TBH, the standard pump rarely gives trouble and upping the fuel pressure alone will just cause the ECU to trim the fuel back to where it was before.

Fuel pumps are normally rated way in excess of what the engine actually consumes to cope with clogged filters, etc.

Personally, I would just fit a standard one.

The standard one could probably dealing with 4bar fpr anyway. But thats irrelevent, as the std injectors are big enough not to need a larger fpr to what is fitted (3bar from memory).

The engine is a close loop system, so will only ever be putting in a set amount of fuel for any given circumstance, based on its map. So raising the pressure will shorten the duration of the injection.

Increasing fuel pressure is only worthwhile if you cannot get the injection duration long enough to get required fuel in, which really isn't a problem in the Omega V6 :)

how about if running nos / supercharger? would an uprated pump be needed then?  ;)

in standard form i have to agree, ive got friends running 380bhp on a c20let with a standard pump that flows no faster than the omega pump.

but on the other hand if an uprated pump is cheaper or only £20 ish more expensive then i would have the uprated.

I seem to recall that you would need a fist load of work on engine much beyond 250bhp to strengthen engine, so within that, std fuel pump more than adequate
