Found out the Omega not too keen on ticking over-at least until it's warmed up a bit, possibly stale fuel/needs a good blast[it has been stood biggest part of a year]was going to run it round on the private land in front of the lock up only to find the n/s rear caliper had seized solid so need to see about sourcing one of those as well as the new battery it needs as I robbed that off it for the 960 when the battery on that died of old age.
Wynns fuel treatment and some decent fuel.

Re the rear calipers, non vented are readily available new, (stamped 40), but vented aren't (stamped 42).

iirc, yours is a 3.0 so should have non vented ;)

Ideally change them as a pair.

Or strip, clean, and reseal the existing.

chances are that the pads have become crusty around the edges and got wedged in the caliper.
Take them out, dress the edges with a file, pop them back in and I think you will find that the calipers themselves are still perfectly fine.

The calipers can get really crusty. Vx didn't bother coating them with anything more than air.

to be fair, the bores are the only bits that matter and they have a couple of effective seals to keep the crap out. The shiny silver coating on calipers is mostly there to make the first owner think they got their money's worth.

My last 3.2 looked like it had been parked in the Mancchester shit canal underneath, and whilst they were serviceable, the castings were flaking off as chunks :o

The fronts seem to be a bit more dureable... Probably because they contain more material and do most of the work, so using them periodically would help keep the moisture down.  :-\

the front brakes get hot and moisture evaporates , the rears not so much
a good clean up of the callipers, slides etc every year prior to MOT  keeps the brakes in good order.
Vauxhall wise, I've only had to replace 1  calliper (astra G ) due to the piston sticking which i replaced with a known good calliper of similar age
handbrake cables do have a hard life and can seize if not used tough , a £20 item on Onegas IIRC

You are correct DG the rear discs on mine are the solid[non-vented type]looking on flea bay rear calipers are available from just short of £43 upwards, plus then of course a new set of pads[although there's plenty of material left on the existing ones]and new set of pins. With the tick over issue it will rev cleanly round to the red line and unless you come off the throttle steadily[from any revs]it will stall but fire back up straight away.Got a new fuel filter to put on it[had that in stock for some time]and I might also change the IACV for the new one I also have in stock and check for air leaks while I'm at it.

Drove the RRS back home from South London this morning held up for around 25 minutes due to a lorry being stranded in one of the lanes on the M25,  didn't hang about once traffic was moving, filled up with diesel once home 166 miles on 25 litres so about 30mpg not bad at all.

Putting off going to Croydon.  Managed to avoid it for about 5 years, but know in the next few weeks my luck is definately gonna run out.

There are worse places, even after the Olympics levelled the really shitty bits of Stratford...

Think we only have two more trips down there & then the house goes up for sale hopefully off our hands by June.

Got the French contraption to the point where I should be able to fire it up and se what happens.
Turned the key and nothing happened at all.
Then I remembered I havent yet refitted the starter motor.  ::) ;D
