About as much use as an appendix, I would say. :-\

Mine lived at the bottom of the scuttle. An occasional check that all was dry every now & then ............. it usually was. :y :y

Mine was clear when I checked the pollen filter a couple of weeks ago. Then, about 4 days ago we had some torrential rain. Added to bits, bobs and twigs of the trees, it formed a dam that a beaver would be proud of. :-\
I couldn't reach it to pull it out. I pushed it through instead. :y
-
I was poking mine a while back with the same result! ;)

I expect this was due to ones chauffer parking the automobile underneath one of the 100 Year old trees around the tree lined Opti Towers.

I feel stupid asking this, but what IS that thing?
Ron.

Lord Opti's buttplug! :o ::) ;D

Passenger side scuttle drain thingumyjig, or doobrywotsit if you're from suburbia :y

I don't see the point of having a rubber bung that blocks up with silt and shit.
The two inch hole that remains is perfectly adequate.
GM could have saved themselves a few pennies.
-
Time will tell... :-\
You might find that it controlled the flow of water, helping to guide it away from where the chassis leg joins the bulkhead :y

Most Omega are so old now that everything has already rotted away..... ;) ;D

I'm not going to rip my arms apart by trying to put the little bastard back in.......that's for sure.

Quite. Nice to see what it actually looks like, I usually have to try and envisage what I'm poking blindly with a stick . . . . . the scuttle that is, not SWMBO.

Because it stops the cabin ventilation system drawing fumes and gases from the engine compartment ! :( ??? >:(

Can't say I've noticed any difference, Mark.
If I get any problems I can always put it back in. :y
-
Vx (and other manufacturers) will always fit such a one way valve (as that is what it is) to stop the fumes plus the silent odourless killer that is CO entering into the ventilation system. :y
So no, your not cleverer than the designers and could not have saved them money lol ;) :y
More importantly, the forum users now know why its there :y

.. and why Opti can sometimes be found asleep at the wheel bouncing down the Armco ;D
.. although that could just be an age thing.

I would leave it out. That Mark fella doesn't know what he's talking about.
Been nice knowing you, Opti. ;D

Yes. To block up and flood the passenger footwell because it gets neglected. ;D ;D ;)

Aaron.....when you consistently flood the RX8 I promise not to laugh. ;D
-
;D
Amy's been using it to go to work and back the last few weeks - no problems so far ;) I've even watched a friend of mine repeatedly start his and shut it off shuffling it around his drive cold with zero flooding problems..

Can't be a'pukka' RX8 then. ;D ;D
The RX8 owners club 'cream themselves' with tall tales about how their RXer flooded while they were driving to see the Queen..... :D ;D ;D

I'm not suggesting for one moment that this Mark DTM fella knows more about Omega's than I do.... ::) ::) ::) ::) but I've just ripped my arms apart putting the little shit back in it's hole. ;)
I have a 400 mile round trip to make over the weekend. :y

Did he hold it at 4000 RPM for 20 seconds and then kill the engine with his foot still on the throttle?
That's what the RX8 forum suggests to prevent flooding. :y
-
Nope ;) He treats it like every other car..
Although I have done the "rev it, hold it, kill it" thing - it's a very odd sound listening to the engine spin down from 4000rpm with no load and no ignition.. sounds exactly like a turbine slowing.

The RX8 is the devil in disguise, Aaron.
It's waiting for a cold dark January night before demonstrating just how demonic it can be. :y
Be afraid.....be very afraid. ;)
PS ....is it still running the original low compression lump?
-
Yep, still running the lump that needs a rebuild - I need a Saturday with more than just me available to drive it down there (otherwise getting back from Alton is a pain in the backside on the train).. soon, though, it'll be off for it's rebuild.

£2000 ish....but I think it will be worth it for the look on young Amy's face the first time she hits the 'beep'. :y
The power delivery of the RX8 always reminds me of a quick two stroke bike from the 1970's.
