Brake pad warning keeps coming up on my display everytime I start the car, checked the pads tonight and they are fine, def not low enough for a warning, the only thing I noticed was a broken white plug tied to the ABS sensor wire on the drivers side, any ideas what this is?
Is there a wear sensor on both front brakes?

on the later facelifts only one sensor was fitted (front nearside)
If your front pads are ok and its just the sensor thats broken then just cut the wire (after the plug) and join up the two wires. this should stop the warning light, but
1, check it is the sensor wire youare cutting(mine was black)
2, check your pads often now that you have no warning

or you could buy a new sensor from VX About £9 plus vat i think

You are probably looking at the connector for the wear sensor. The sensors often break and are not replaced with the new pads.
Look on the caliper and see if there is a sensor there, you will see the wires if there is.
Iirc, earlier models had sensors on both sides and later models just the one. Someone will corrct me if I'm wrong.

Are you SURE its a brake pad warning .. and not "brake check" This occurs everytime as the system checks the BRAKE LIGHTS .. it goes out once you touch the brake pedal and complete the circuit.

AFAIK if the brake pad wear indicator circuit is activated then the light on the instrument panel will be on..

If it's the pad wear sensor - the wire is black with two or three bits of rubber shroud for mounting.  The sensor is whitish plastic, flattened pear shape with a right angle bend in it, brass pin sticking out of the fat end. 

The brass pin clips into the hole at the top of one of the pads.  It is quite a tight fit and the candyfloss plastic often breaks when pulled out to replace the pads.

had same on mine couple of months ago-plastic part that goes on pad had broken off :-?
Trouble was I went to part supplier and sold me 2 Was told they come in pairs?

Yes mate it says Brake pad on the display after the brake check has been cleared.

Strange indeed?
I have the same problem with the Brake Pad warning light coming on every time I stop the car to park. It happens whether or not I use the handbrake.
All of the pads were changed (VX ones too) and none of the warning sensor wires were fitted anyway to any of them! They are all safely insulated and tied up out of the way.
How strange is that?

The sensor lead can still fail and go open circuit, giving the warning even if it isn't physically attached to the pad.

Think I will try shorting the sensor out for the time being til I get a new 1 as it is quite annoying having to cancel the warning everytime I start the car. Lol

I recently fitted a new VX brake sensor but I am still getting the Brake Pad warning on my display. I went some time  without a sensor connected and the connector got filled with road dirt which I spent quite some time cleaning out (perhaps not enough time)

Sorry if this seems dim, but is shorting the sensor simply a matter of connecting a piece of wire between the two pin sized sockets in the black plastic connector tube?

You could do it that way, but the easiest way is to chop the wear part of the sensor wire off a used sensor, peel back some insulation on each wire, twist them together & then wrap a bit of tape round them both.

Yep 

Although it is probably easier to adapt the lead from your old faulty sensor by trimming it down to an inch or two,  connecting the two wires and taping it up.  Then you can just plug this stub in to the socket.

Had the same problem on mine before and after fitting new pads and cleaning the sensors in the end took forum advice joined the two wires up, fooled the comp now forgotten all about it.
