Omega General Help / 2.5 and 3.0 throttle body's
« on: 26 December 2008, 21:41:38 »
hiya,
as per subject really.
can anybody shed a bit of light on how you tell if it's a 2.5 or 3.0 throttle body?
i'm guessing the 3.0's a larger bore
thanks

Omega General Help / should this concern me...
« on: 24 December 2008, 19:51:53 »
i thought the pipe for the hbv had popped off....
i looked to swap the hbv today....only there's no hbv
the heater bridge was going directly to the heater matrix and heater matrix to the coolant tranfer pipe and the bottom connector (on passenger side of the rear of the block)

i'm in the process of putting a hbv on buuut.. i cant see a vacuum pipe for it! ?
can anybody shed some light on it?
thanks

Omega General Help / y26 and x25 engines...
« on: 23 December 2008, 23:20:59 »
are they both mechanically the same so i can just swap the heads over straight from an x25?
afaik it's only really the ancillaries that are different? i.e the block and heads are the same with coil per cylinder instead of a dispack?
thanks

Omega General Help / reduced power and hbv problems...
« on: 23 December 2008, 12:15:58 »
firstly i got asked about a crack/leaking exhaust manifold because their 2.0 mega's running underpowered, they think it's to do with the egr but i'm wondering if the leaking manifold depending how much, could effect the fueling and lambda readings?

also... what does this sound like because to me it sounds like a spooned hbv...(on  2.5 btw)

if the header tank is mildly warm, the cabin air is cold and then (i think) the hbv piping pops and throws water all down the back of the engine and dispenses the coolant :P (could be quite a good shower if you happened to be under the car whilst it was running)

anyway the engine was getting nice and warm with some smoke coming off from under the back of the plenum

thanks

Omega General Help / running issues..
« on: 21 December 2008, 22:27:24 »
hiya..
i'v been having a few problems you could say until tonight when something went pop! lol

i swapped to 3.0 cams on the 2.5 and after trying it with the timing near enough perfect i really did strive to get it spot on, which i did and tried starting it..quite a few times.. anyway it got to the point where i'd had the multiram on and off so fast i kept leaving the odd thing out like a vac pipe or air mass connector.
anyway got everything sorted out tonight,
started it and it wont idle, gets smoke coming out from at the back of a the plenum and when revved it sounded very meaty but when i took my foot off it'd drop slightly then go up slightly before dying and actually stalling unless i plonked my foot on the go pedal a bit.

anyway after quite alot of smoke cam off something decided to pop at which point i pooed myself, jumped out the car and watched it dump quite alot of what i think was water from the back of the engine... my first thoughts are hbv or very pesimistic...hg failure
the water was only getting milky warm after a few times of having it run with throttle but the oil was getting nice and warm (oily steam from the oil cap when i took it off if you get me)

thanks

Omega General Help / does what im thinking sound right?
« on: 18 December 2008, 22:28:00 »
hiya,
i changed to the 3.0 cams and was on about changing cam cover seals but oof shop was sold out... anyway i rammed some cam covers on with decent looking soft rubber seals/gaskets on...

anyway-
*it wont start/idle without about half throttle held on
*smoke coming off the exhaust manifold from the cam covers and the *timings slightly out on cyl 1 and 2 (it's retarded about 1 degree if that on both) just so that the lines are touching the guage marks on both cams
*possibly the icv's buggered as it makes funny noises

also i found that the hole in the secondary air injector pipe made a difference when held sealed or left open (ran with it sealed by my big hand haha or died with it open)

hope you can help!

Omega General Help / running rough and 3.0 cams...
« on: 16 December 2008, 20:39:10 »
i was saying about having the omega running to somebody at work.. now i'v heard an omega run rough as crap with the fuel guage on empty and it develope the miss fire of doom :P (so i know what it sounds like)

...i'v got very similar symptoms on my 2.5 with 3.0 cams in... if the timings very almost spot on with cams 1 and 2 with the line on the cams just to the left of the timing guage marking...(it's not even half a tooth out its with the lines touching the guage lines if that makes sense)

my question is:
is it because i need to bleed the air from the fuel rail(as i didnt have time to bleed it and i was in need of somebody to try and start to car to piss fuel and the air out) or is it the timing causing it to run slightly rough or is it just down to fueling so leave it be?

thanks

hiya,
does anybody know any rough compression drops when using the 3.0 heads on the 2.5?
might beable to get some pretty cheap for my turbo project (can use thinner spacer plates that way too!)

Omega General Help / extra v6 cooling...
« on: 23 November 2008, 21:44:44 »
hiya,
im just wondering- aswell as fitting a secondard aux fan to the passenger side of the front of the rad....
what do people think i should do to get vented air to cyl5 and 6?

i'v been thinking either chavy vents on the bonnet (wehay actually bonnet vents that have purpose :P and i have a spare bonnet to play with luckily)
or have two ducts clipped to the back of the rear rad fan and use the rad for the air supply

thinking about it more indepth i could put mesh on the fog light plastics and put ducts there (needs to be moving though really for that to work hence why i said behind the radiator

let me know
thanks

Omega General Help / saab 9-5 parts for 2.5 omega turbo project...
« on: 23 November 2008, 18:43:22 »
hiya,
somebody's breaking a 9-5 3.0 turbo (yep very rare)
anyway i thought i'd ask what parts people thought would be worth scavenging off it?

so far i'm thinking

turbo manifold
turbo unit
rods being steel apparently after posts on here

im not sure about the crank and/or pistons as the crank will be higher lift wont it being the 3.0 and the pistons are a larger bore unless i plan on having mine bored out :(

thanks
