General Car Chat / Something wrong with me - apparently.
« on: 02 September 2018, 11:37:46 »
I sat at a set of traffic lights yesterday - right outside the pub which was the venue for the first Essex OOF meet, if anyone remembers it - anyway, coming in the other direction was an old Lamborghini Countach.
Im told I sat with a stupid grin on my face, like a 10 year old boy and didn't take my eyes off it until it was out of sight, and was then informed "theres something wrong with you".  ;D ;D
Women will never understand men. We are far too simple for them.  ::)

Was taken ill last week and had to have a lung transplant today. Hope he recovers well. I have utmost respect for the bloke, and his complete lack of bullshit in all he does.

General Car Chat / Old cars are shite.
« on: 31 July 2018, 18:06:07 »
I started a thread a while back about an MGBGT owned by an old friend of mine, and how best to sell it. He has decided to send it to auction and asked me to have a drive in it today to check everything is ok before it gets collected on Thursday.

I owned one of these briefly a long time ago, and didn't have fond memories of it, but 40 years on and taking into account the progress in the intervening years, I was shocked how awful it was.
As MGB,s go, this is as good as it gets, but I wouldn't want to drive it for any distance unless I was being well paid to do so.
The only way I can try and convey how awful it was, is to say that I got back into my sons 17 year old 1.2 Punto, and it was immediately obvious that it is an immeasurably better car in any way you care to think of.
This is the actual car.

General Discussion Area / A life in 12 bars.

Did anyone watch this on BBC2 last night ?
It was a fantastic biography on the life of Eric Clapton. Very insightful, warts and all, and at times a very emotional film.
The footage near the end about the death of his son was heartbreaking to watch.
It took him until well into his 50,s to begin to experience what happiness means.

General Car Chat / Best place to sell a classic car ?
« on: 18 June 2018, 06:35:42 »
An old friend, who knows nothing about selling cars has asked me to help him sell a rather special MGB.
I want to help as much as I can, but Im far from an expert on such matters. Anyone have any advice about the best way to go about it please ?
Tia.

General Discussion Area / Photobucket back to normal ?
« on: 28 May 2018, 21:06:29 »
Just been reading a thread on another forum which says the geezer who decided to charge a small fortune for third party hosting has been given the elbow by PB, and normal service has resumed.
Anyone here know about this ?

General Discussion Area / Anyone want £25,000 for free ?
« on: 08 May 2018, 11:20:04 »
Well if your over 25 bad luck. If your under 25 though you might be in luck !!
The Resolution foundation (who ?) headed by David Willets, a former Tory MP has recommended that everyone should be given £25k from the Govt. money tree when they reach the age of 25.
What better way to encourage the huge sense of entitlement of the snowflake generation.
You don't need to work and struggle to get what you want in life. The rest of us will give it to you.
The world really has gone fickin mad. This is the kind of thing you would have seen as a sketch in a comedy programme not long ago.
Now its a serious recommendation from a supposedly serious think tank type organisation.
They also recommend that people who carry on working past retirement age should now pay national insurance to fund the NHS.
This will obviously mean that people wont carry on working and will be less self reliant and more likely to be reliant on the state.
Depraved neo Marxism.

General Car Chat / Been offered a cheap car.
« on: 25 April 2018, 10:00:41 »
An elderly friend of mine has a 2010 Punto, which has recently had 4 new Pirellis and new battery fitted. He wants rid of it and is asking £250 for it.
My initial thoughts were its a bargain, snap it up. However there are three issues which are making me think again.
1. ABS ecu probably needs replacing. used ones available on ebay for around £70.
2. Electronic steering is playing up, and this is often not easy to cure without a rebuilt steering column from BBA. Cost £lots.
3. The biggest problem. It has done over 160,000 miles. I cant see it being worth much all fixed up, with those miles on the clock.
I'm thinking its probably best avoided ?

Omega General Help / A/C valves.
« on: 18 April 2018, 20:31:21 »
Fitted a new condenser and had it regassed just over a year ago, but it has lost all its coldness now. I bought a ultra violet torch which showed some leakage around the valves. Cant say for sure if it has leaked anywhere else, as its not easy to see.
Plan is to renew both valves and have it regassed again, and hope that does the trick. If there are other leaks it should show up before the gas goes in.
I believe the low pressure valve is a standard car tyre type valve ?  Dont know the part number for the high pressure valve.
Anyone have this info, and an idea of price please ?
Tia.  :)
