Hi chaps,
This car is now driving me mad,
Okay summary
Car was running awfull had oil leak from rocker
Cover internal and external,
Oil leak sorted new gasket, new plugs coil pack,
Also due to codes had new cam sensor and mass air flow sensor,
Now you would think after all that it would be
Okay but no,
It runs fine smooth as silk if you drive it gently
But every time you flip the execrator pedal fast it just goes dead flat even
A cough and Splutter sometimes, like something has restricted the fuel or something
Help please
-
Perhaps I should add no fault codes or lights on
At all I have had an intermittent fault a couple of
Times over last year where I have started it
An the car starts Ticks over but no response from the throttle
Stopped it started again and it’s okay.
-
Also runs fine at 70 if you slowly work your way up to it
But it won’t be rushed >:(
-
Well, you didn't read my last post on your other thread or you would have cleaned the throttle body.
Also, did you bother cleaning the breathers and replacing the breather hoses as per the guide? Including the one from the sump to the Cam cover.
What was the intermittent code? That could be a useful piece of the puzzle.
What air filter do you have fitted and have you checked it and the entire intake for blockages?
My money, for what it's worth, is still that the throttle body and breathers are gummed up. And blipping the throttle is unlikely to do anything anyway, again for the reasons in your last thread.

Hi doc,
That’s on my next to do list clean throttle body
I have the gasket and throttle body cleaner,
Gues I will have to do that and report back,
-
And the only code showing now is p705
-
Also doc, it’s a boosh air filter just replaced it along with plugs and that

Did you thoroughly clean out the Cam cover when you re did the gasket? If not, then you should probably do that. Four pot ones normally take a couple of cans of carb cleaner through the pipe fittings to knock all the gunge out.
The hoses will need replacing, especially the ones to the throttle body as they rot from the inside out.
That code is for the selector switch. Check it's plugged in properly and if the code comes back, clean the switch. There's a guide for that too...
-
I thought I did but will double check to make sure they are clean don’t suppose you have the
Part number for new hoses
-
They are in the guide. ;)

Okay have the thottle body of
One of the pipes has copper pipe in
Does this just pull of it seems very tight
On there
-
Oh no, I have just noticed that
The copper pipe that is attached
To the thottle body has come away
Broken of with the pipe, gues I am now in
The market for another thottle body,
You really couldn’t make this up >:(
-
What did you pull the hose off with? An angle grinder ??? A slide hammer ???
That 'copper' pipe is an interference fit pressed in at the factory by a machine. It's certainly not intended to be "removable"... :-\
-
It has broken rather than come out
I’m just wondering it this may not of been my problem
If it was fractured or something 😟
-
It certainly wouldn't help.
I am still confused as to how you managed to break it off, but that's a separate issue :o
-
So am I >:(
I will report back after thottle body replacement :y
-
:y
Don't forget the gasket ;)
-
So am I >:(
I will report back after thottle body replacement :y
If it's the coolant hose, why not blank off each end? A heated throttle body is hardly necessary here.
Alternatively, remove the broken piece of pipe(careful use of a Dremel is probably easiest) and replace it. That might require a little ingenuity, but won't be particularly difficult
-
Okay chaps,
Today I am very happy,
I managed to source a second hand thottle body,
For 40 notes, was very grotty but spent lots of time
Cleaning it up, it came up like brand new,
Have fitted to my car and it runs like a dream,
No dead spots responds instantly to the thottle,
In 7 years of ownership I have always had to kick
Down a gear to over take, and has always sounded laboured on hills, not anymore it picks up
And takes of even without goin down a gear,
If there is any one out there that’s thinks cleaning
The throttle body, isn’t important or won’t make much difference, think again.
All I can say is wow, oh and thanks for your help doc. :) :y
-
I'm glad to hear you've finally got to the bottom of it. Your perseverance has paid off.
-
Well done :y
-
Hi guys
Just a follow up question
As to my happy ending,
How often would you recommend
Cleaning the throttle body?
:y
-
Annually as a starting point, along with the breathers :y
-
Okay doc thanks :y
