Omega General Help / Head gasket (one of them) - oh well

Well my 1 previous owner, fully specked MV6 3.0 on a V plate has cried enough on one of the head gaskets.

I was considering sorning it in the new year and do the cam belt, thermostat, full service
and a bit of body work on the O/S rear arch

Some joker who works for me said you'll be scrapping it then.

No why should I do that ? I said

Why it's only worth £400 and it'll cost you £500+ to sort

So where to start ?

Is there a link to replacing head gasket on this site ?

 Well looked in depth today on my pfl 3.0 MV6 as using coolant and running a little hot.

Checked oil level and all ok but unfortunately "emulsion" on inside of oil filler gap when I checked

I guess that can only mean one thing - head gasket ? 

I don't have the time so will probably take it to local Bosch garage. May as well get new thermostat and cam belt done too - ££££££

She's a keeper though as only 1 previous owner and full spec including;  Sat nav, Bose, cruise, leather, telephone headset

Any ideas on typical head gasket prices ?

Omega General Help / 2 FL models complete in Scrapyard near me

Any one looking for FL spares there are two near me for breaking.

I'm in a YO43 postcode. Can check if bits are available if you ask me.

One is an 03 reg CDX saloon in green, the other is a Silver(Z147) CD saloon on an X plate

Agsin both seem pretty complete, no evidence of accident damage so presume mechanical issues or big MOT problems put them there.

Omega General Help / Removing doors

I've found a good drivers door in a scrappy as the bottom edge of mine is very scratty.

How's the easiest way of removing the pins on the hinges - I don't want to make an easy job difficult.

Also as mine is pfl and this door is a off fl how's best to change the bump side trip.

General Car Chat / Pfl MV6 specification

Just laying up my PFL MV6 for winter and got me thinking about the specification it has and wonder what other MV6 cars out there with similar specs as think quite a full list for that model.

It's registered 30/12/1999 - V plate - auto transmission as most were I think - was this an extra?

It has:

Cruise, Bose sound, CCR700 (telephone head unit), sat nav, leather.

Chap I got it from couple of years ago (only previous owner) thought the full spec was to run out the model and move the last few on quickly. This got to me thinking as to what is dealer fitted (if any) and what is assembly fitted at point of manufacture.

I'm in need of a really good drivers door in Star Silver (z147) if anyone can help. Other colours worth looking at if really good. Mines got a lot of pox at the bottom and under window seal.

General Discussion Area / Start/stop worsen fuel economy?

We've bought a new BMW 118D sport for the wife last month.

Puzzling me is the fuel economy as not only being much lower than advertised, which I knew it would be due to manufacturers take on it, but I wondered if the start/stop function worsens things.

I appreciate it is better for CO2 emissions but in my younger days it was always regarded that starting snd stopping the engine wastes fuel?

If this is the case, should we disable the start/stop function?

General Car Chat / What bits should I salvage from a scrap 3.0 MV6

Just about strip some bits off my old MV6 - I sold it last year for £650 and bought it back as a bad mot fail for £200 yesterday. I'll scrap the rest of the car next week.

Just wondered what bits should i concentrate on / hard to find sort of thing.

Question 2 - Also is paint code Z147 on a pfl the same as Z157 on a fl ?

Mine is pfl with Z147 paint code - star silver (I think)

General Car Chat / Nice MV6 on eBay yesterday

Been watching a 2 owner red metallic pre fl MV6 with leather etc. on Ebay.

Nice looking condition and MOT - unfortunately it was ended early as was going to buy it so dunno what happened - advertised elsewhere probably or someone gone in with buy it now.

Hopefully gone to a good home as these seem to get broken for spares too often now

Omega General Help / Temperature gauge on the up?

My 3.0 MV6 temperature gauge shows average/ middle reading  when driving along with no traffic in front. But if I follow someone even at speed, the gauge goes upto 100. I assume this is the lack of air ramming into grill.

Obviously in heavy traffic it moves upto 100 or so.

I use the heaters to pull heat out of the system but wondered if rad is silted or some other problem?

General Car Chat / New plugs and leads fitted

 Had an annoying misfire and roughish running on the MV6.

Got some new leads from Andrew Page

What a ba....st.d of a job !   

Changed plugs too whilst at it.

Mind you it goes like stink now
