You want to watch the Transporter films (3 of them) with Jason Statham

His favourite mode of transport is an Audi A8 V12 - wow

I’d love one but the Mrs says I’ve enough motors with 2 x PFL MV6 and a MK1 Golf GTi

Well I'm no mechanic but I've tinkered with cars over 30 years and can only conclude it's a hgf.

Symptoms of this HGF :

All coolant gone out of expansion tank
Emulsification in oil
Compression in o/s bank, 1st cylinder from front is reading 5 whilst rest are 10-12
Very rough running - fires up but stalls again
When it was running with coolant - steam/very visible emissions coming from exhaust

If someone has other diagnostics then very greatful to receive them.

Re the Champagne Omega - I'm thinking of going for it. I did like the car at the time very much and only sold it to go towards a deposit on a house.

I'll go in cheap and see where we go 👍

Well I did have it from nearly new back in early 2000, so got some pics of it looking nice and fresh then 😎.

Was a Vauxhall fleet car before me. It had 8400 miles on it when I got it and ( very sadly ) still got the purchase invoice from the Vauxhall dealer.

The rub is, hence the wife discussion, is I've already got a 1999 MV6 which is a one previous owner, full specced car with 113k on clock. Although it's suffering head gasket failure and awaiting attention presently and on SORN.

Not many chances to acquire one these days as numbers in their teens available. Guess if I buy it at least I can decide at a later date what to do.

Gay Gold eh? Well it's same colour as the rust so blends nicely. ;D

Reckon wheels will be £120 a corner to do a proper job (seen a set on eBay for £450 or best offer for full refurb set), bodywork/paintwork I reckon £300-£450 depending on what's found . Then there's MOT and fresh service. Cam belt done quite recently so that's something.

So reckon a total spend on £1,500+ But could be one of the best ones out there when done (taking mileage/low ownership) - mmm decisions decisions !!

Best talk to the wife  ::)

Well it's just a bit on the rarer side, having the low ownership and mileage

Plus colour & leather combo nice

It's in Scotland and I'm in East Yorkshire so there's £200 pick up fee already

I thought £500 tops

Got chance to buy back a car I once owned. It's an S reg.

MV6 Omega in Champagne, manual and leather.

56k miles, 2 previous owners (1 being me first time)

It's ropey round rear wheel arches and door bottoms and wheels have have been painted a single colour so need full refurb.

Omega General Help / Re: Head gasket (one of them) - oh well
« on: 02 December 2017, 14:39:45 »
Done compression test today on the MV6.  :-[

All N/S bank of 3 giving 10/12 bar which is good

The O/S bank - no 1 cylinder ? (nearest the front) only giving 7 bar with nos 2 and 3 cylinders giving around 10 bar.

Also all spark plugs on O/S bank are sat in and covered in oil.

Emulsification of the oil too. The car has been used quite a bit prior to going poorly so can't put it down to its lack of use.

O/S Head gasket then as feared - but will replace cambelt, thermostat and transfer pipe while "in" there.

Job for new year anyway - no time before Christmas unless I get someone to do it for me but in East Yorkshire and not sure of any Vauxhall specialists in near vicinity.

Would it be sensible to replace N/S head gasket while car in bits or leave well alone and the assumption if ain't broke....

Thanks - hopefully I'll get away with just fluid level then 😬

If not I've a knackered engine AND box 😰

There's a scrap yard near us - he had a 3.0MV6 in a while ago.
I might see if still there and suss out engine/box - bit of a lottery though.

Rather repair what I know is OK otherwise

Before the head gasket (subject to investigation) on MV6 went - there was little or no drive from
the auto box when cold. It was fine when warm.

Does this suggest gearbox oil being low or more sinister issues ?

Thanks in advance anyone

Well I'm no mechanic -I've tinkered with and restored cars over the last 30 years but never got deep into engine mechanics and real technical stuff.

If there's other tests I can do I'll happily look into.

I think the first thing is a compression test - I suspect the failure is on the O/S bank.

Yea pretty sure it's head gasket

Missing on one or more cylinders, water gone from coolant bottle, steaming from exhaust. Coolant light came on pretty quick. There's oil spray in engine bay around coolant bottle area too so guess that's got squeezed out the split.

Turned engine off at that - left it for a bit to cool down, filled up with spare water. Managed to nurse it home after another refill. Thankfully near home at time. Difficult to start too unless I could get some revs up as it would be lumpy and stall.

I'm not to upset about it as was thinking of some TLC on the car anyway. It's done 113k.

Shame I'm in East Yorkshire as some of these whizz mechanics on here could have done it for me.

I'll read up on it and get my tools out. It'll be new year though now as not much time.

Would you recommend genuine parts by the way anyone?
