All,

Sorry if sounds daft question, but does the A/C Compressor only 'Click on' if the temp outside requires it ?

I only ask as moved old girl out of garage for a few mins and noticed that upon tucking her back in the Garage  :y tickover seemed to sound slightly different (slightly lower revs - the same as when Eco button is on).

I have had her from new so know most of her quirks but not experienced this one (or perhaps just never noticed till now  :-[), and only does this when Eco button pressed (illuminated) and MPG drip from 0.3 to 0.2 Gal/hr.

The Climate control was set to on (NO illumination on ECO and NO illumination on Recirc - all switch lights out), and I put it to LO  :D to test if compressor kicked in but seemed not to do so.

It was 12 degrees out there, so I am coming to conclusion that the compressor does not need to come on in that case as air is cold and below a threshold to trigger ?

Is this normal ?  Air was COLD, but it was 12 degrees outside  :D

I always have the Climate control on and in Auto so compressor on when required I assume.

I have 2.5V6 CDX Manual Mini Facelift (last of the 2000 V Plate's  :y)

Thoughts ?

Hi all,

Noticed the other day that there was a couple of feet of 'Horse Hair' following me from my Tailpipe :(   Looks looks like some of the Baffle is loose.

I cut off the offending 'End Trail' but I can see the hair if look up the pipe  :-[  Nothing appears to come out with normal driving.

Car not sound any different, but should I get a new back box on it now ?  Last one I had was about 8 years ago from the dealer and cost a packet  :( but was VX one.

I see they are somewhat cheaper now, but are there makes to get ? or more importantly AVOID from experiences ?

I want to keep the car as original as can, and sounding decent and quiet, but I don't mind a little V6 growl and prefer the twin tailpipe ;) rather than single on my 2.5V6  :'( (I hear that either rear box will however fit ??? ).

Any advice welcome.

There are cheap ones on E.bay:

and

Seems like a gamble whichever I pick ?  so any advice welcome as want to fit a decent one.

Thanks,
Andy.

Omega General Help / Wishbone, tyrewear and geometry stetup advice.
« on: 22 February 2014, 10:46:57 »
Hi all.

I have read quite a few posts on this and I think I have a conclusion based on my position and reading the various posts, but wanted to seek guidance from the great and good on the forum that I am doing the right thing before I commit, since it may cost a little but hopefully get the car sorted for another 14 years !!

Summary:  Last MOT showed Nearside and Offside front Suspension arm synthetic bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement [2.4.G.2].  It was also commented that both front tyres worn on inner tread.

History:  I have had car from new (2.5 V6 CDX – Pre Facelift, on V plate – 56k mls on clock :))  Front tyres always worn on the inside edge.  I had, at recommendation from a 'local' garage to have the wishbones changed (from the original ones) some 6 years ago I would estimate.  Had new tyres on front too at that time but was never happy with the cowboys who did it and to annoy me more the steering wheel was then never central !!!!

Now:  6 years later (and about 10k miles later I would expect) front tyres are excessively worn on inner edge and I have always doubted that it was ever 'Tracked' correctly as I can see the front tyres definitely seemed to be pointing slightly outwards compared to the rears.  I only do about 1k mls a year so not heavy mileage !!! (but my pushbike takes a pounding !!!)

Going forward:  I was planning (as I don't know what the cowboys fitted 6 years ago) to have a new set of front wishbones and try to get a decent garage (who have some care !) locally to fit them and get to track back up.  The posts on the forum suggest that 'Lemforder' wishbones are the ones to get (from All German Parts ? Code 27734 02  & 27735 02)

The car needs 4 new tyres, so after the wishbones, the next plan was to book in at Wheels In Motion (Bolton are the nearest to me from Chester :( ) and get them to fit 4 new tyres and get full geometry setup.

Does this sound like the best thing to do ?  Whilst I am ordering from All German Parts, should there be anything else I should get fitted (there seems to be quite a few bits on the website !!)

Thanks in advance for guidance.  Anybody know anybody local to Chester and the Wirral who could slap a pair of wishbones on if I get them ????

Cheers,
Andy.

Omega General Help / Sump Plug Washer
« on: 27 January 2014, 19:15:52 »
Daft question, but I am going to change the oil this weekend and I would like to confirm (before I take sump plug out and oil everywhere !!) is there a 'Correct' sump plug washer ?

I only ask as the Vauxhall garage had changed oil on all previous occasions up until a couple of years ago when I did it for the first time (changed oil on all my other cars, so thought would give it a go  :))

I remember getting a 'Sump Plug Washer' from the local Vauxhall Stealer but when I did the oil last time around I definitely recall the washer the VX Garage 'Sold' me was different to the one that was on there ! (this the original - or one the VX garage use previously).

I used the one which was already there and binned the one the garage gave me for the avoidance of doubt :y

I recall one washer with a small rubber inner and one a standard copper washer.

What washer should I expect the original to be ?

Thanks in advance.

Just sorted boot wires on dads 2.2 CD facelift  :y

However, noticed door mirror "round" switch appears stuck on the move mirror left direction.  It will not pop back  :( and when move other switch to control the left or right mirror the respective motor start to move the mirror to the left  :(  moving stalk to middle stops mirror, but will not move any any other direction ?

Is it fixable ?

Is it easy to remove the unit ?

Is it an EBay job for a new unit  :(

Is it the same as the vectra ones ?

Its a 2.2 CD facelift.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Hi,

The boot release on my Dads 2.2 CD facelift (with cruise fitted  :y) has stopped responding to both the boot release key fob button and dash boot button. :(

Last week he mention that his boot (and courtesy light I think) did not work.  After investigation I found a few broken wires in the wiring loom that runs up the LHS of the boot hinge, which appeared sliced by the very hard and brittle black plastic tape.  I re.made the wires, and changed the blown fuse (fuse 7 - 30A I think) and all worked a treat. :y

A couple of days ago however he mentioned that the electronic boot release has stopped working  :( and has to resort to fumbling for the manual lever by reaching in from the back seats  :'(

Would this be fuse ?, or perhaps one of the remaining wires (not obviously broken from last fix by the boot hinge) the prime suspect ?

Thanks in advance to all and happy new year to all on the forum.

Regards,
Andy.

Hi,

I noticed today on way home in the dark that the illuminated heater vent dials ( for the '0' for off and '1' for on !) don't appear illuminated ?

The passenger one was illuminated and shining nicely at me  :y, but the two vents in the centre, and the drivers one were :'(, were both distinctly black with no visibility of the illuminated 'O' and '1' which was evident on the passenger one.

Couple of blown dash bulbs ????

How easy are they to replace and where best place to get them from ?

Cheers in advance.

Andy.

Hi,

Had a brake light bulb go today and wondered is its worth fitting an LED one (SMD one ?).  Would obviously do the pair.

Are they any good ? And would be best fitting a white one (given lenses are red !) Or is best getting a red one ?

Are there particular ones to fit or best to us?, or is it a waste of money and just fit standard bulbs ?

Thanks in advance,

Andy.

Hi all,

Handbrake needs adjusting as on top/last few notches.  MOT due in few months so thought I would do handbrake adjustment in case they fail it  :(

Car has 57k on the clock and I have had her from new.  I have not had the rear disks changed and I have not put any pads or shoes on the back so all will be the originals  :y

Is it worth, as I believe its recommended to take rear disks off to set adjustment screw on the shoes, to put a new set of discs, pads and shoes on if they are all original ones - not sure if after 57 k miles they would need changing ?  If have to take the rear discs off, then I am thinking I may of well put a new set back on  :y

Is it best to :

1/  leave well alone and just pop discs off and adjust as normal on the shoe adjuster ?
2/ pop new pads a s shoes on ?
3/ pop new discs, pads and shoes on ?

Is it best to stick with OEM parts or are aftermarket discs, pads and shoes OK - are there any brands to stick with /avoid ?

Cheers in advance.

Car is 2.5 V6 CDX on a V plate.

Andy.

Omega General Help / Coolant Drip - Help - UPDATE - Pics now !
« on: 21 September 2013, 14:38:06 »
Hi,

I have managed to take a few pics now at:  https://fluidleakomega25v6.shutterfly.com/pictures/8

Went for long drive (1hr) and no leaks.

Car sat for 2 hrs cooling down before the dribble then started.

It is not a fast dribble, and normally has stopped the next morning.  I shall test this theory today and report back.

Seems to come from under the heat shield (see pics on drivers side of the V6 exhaust manifold) and I can't trace it any further.  HVB BONE dry as are pipes around them (I just managed, at the expense of some skin on my knuckles to pop the temp sensor wire back   :'( - thanks for the tip - Could of done with a gynecologist to put the wire back  :D).

The ofending fluid perhaps feels a little viscous/oily than watery, and more green but jury out until I have my sample later.

I have left a clean container under the car so will collect sample and compare to my coolant sample (which I can confirm is a blue/tourquoise colour).

The leak in question I thought was more greenish (but the garage floor is painted grey !!!!).

Once I get a sample from my strategically placed container I shall compare the fluids and report back  :D

I'll keep posted.

Andy.

Omega General Help / Small coolant drip - HELP..... 59k miles !!!
« on: 19 September 2013, 09:40:18 »
Hi,
I have just noticed a small coolant leak on my omega (2.5V6 CDX – V plate – 59k on clock – owned from new).
It appears to leave a small (probably a couple of teaspoons full) of green coolant/water under the car when parked.

It appears to have trickled down and drips off the two bolts at the bottom of the gearbox/cluctch ? (two small torx bolt heads stick straight down) right in the middle just behind the front wheels.
I suspect its originating from higher toward the back of the engine (at the back) and working its way down.  I perhaps noticed a little of green water resudue on the bottom of the AC compressor (more towards passenger side) but the drip ends up coming off the two bolts I mentioned.

I have read there are some pipes to watch out for at the back of the engine bay ?
I only do about 1000 miles a year, and probably only use it once a week so not sure if that has lead to the problems but my journey is about 10 miles so all up to temp.
I was looking to see if anybody knew of a good independent garage in the Chester / Wirral area ?

Thanks in advance.
Andy.
