Hi all.

I note that Photobucket now charge for 3rd party picture hosting  :-\

Are there any recommended sites used by people ?

I will need to change mine as the pics I have posted on OOF appear to be blocked by Photobucket  :'(

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Andy.

Hi all,

I am a HAPPY CHAP  :)  ALL FIXED  :y :y :y

Swapping the ABS ECU has restored all my Speedo Related functions (Speedo, Cruise, Trip computer etc...)

A BIG thanks to the OOF and the kind members who have helped me on the earlier posts and Private Messages :y  You know who you are so much appreciated  :y

I would also like to mention a special thanks to Terry for services (and parts) rendered - You are a true Gentleman.

Below (After a few hours of cursing, lost skin and numerous other expletives) for those interested is a pic of the ECU which I removed from my 2.5V6 Manual - MFL - V Plate.

Given the corrosion on the top, I suspect some has got inside and rendered the famous Speed signal Pin 23 'Iffy'  :-\  I was going to see if I can open it up - Any experience ?  Are they simple to open (and then close !).

Thanks again all - The power of the OOF strikes again and the old girl is back on the road (washed and tucked away in garage in the cool this afternoon  ;))

ECU Removed - Note slight corrosion on the top  :-\

Part number of ECU Removed (Blood and sweat marks removed for clarity  ;D)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Code reader for MFL ?
« on: 01 June 2017, 22:26:19 »
Hi.

Apologies for the daft question, but is there a code reader for my MFL Omega ?

I borrow a friend's plug in reader to my Dad's Facelift Desmond which works a treat (Bluetooth ODB and can read it from a friend App on phone).

The same reader will not work on my Omega as i have tried it  :'(  Do I need to get a different 'Flavour' for my MFL ? and if so what would recommend ?

It's just convienent to plug it in and read it on screen  :y

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Hi all,

Spoke to my Dad earlier who has a 2.2 CD Auto Petrol Facelift on a Y Plate and he mentioned he has noticed a damp bit on the drive in the passenger side in front of wheel - He is having to top up Level every now and then.  Not excessive, but nevertheless there is clearly a leak.

I recall a small radiator drain valve on the bottom corner there - Can they weep ?  and if so can you get replacement ? (I recall they have a couple of O rings ?)

Are there any other areas to watch out for on the Desmond for coolant leaks in that area ?

I shall be paying a visit to him in a few weeks time, but If I need any bits then I'll take them with me  :y

Any experience ?

Thanks in advance.

Omega General Help / Speedo Stopped - HELP...... (Update)
« on: 28 May 2017, 09:47:31 »
OK.

Got the ABS plug off (moving Power Steering Reservoir helped  :y

Results so far are:
  • ABS to Cruise - OK  :y
This was from one the small pins in the middle of the 3 rows near the bottom of the plug
  • ABS to ECU - No Connection :(
  • ECU to Top plug by Battery - OK  :y

I have the inside kick panel off, but which is the pin to check :-\  I assume that one of them is the one from the Engine Top plug by battery, with outgoing ones at the base of the plug where it fits into to the ABS, Radio, Cruise etc.

Omega General Help / Speedo Stopped - HELP......
« on: 25 May 2017, 21:47:27 »
Come to get in the car to come home this evening and speedo has stopped  :'(

Fuel and temp guage OK, cluster lights OK, and trip computer OK but:
  • No Speedo
  • No Odometer or Trip counters
  • No Cruise control
  • No Distance related functions in trip computer

Any thoughts ?

I don't have any warning lights (TC or ABS).  Just Speedo not move when drive off.  When car is started you see needle flicker slightly (as I think it has always done).

Car is a 2.5CDX V5 Manual (Mini Face Lift).

Omega General Help / Front flexible exhaust section blowing on 2.2.
« on: 16 February 2017, 23:30:57 »
Hi.

My Dad has a blowing section on his exhaust on his face lift 2.2 Petrol auto.

From what he says, it's on or near a flexible section on the front.  He had a stainless system fitted a few years ago, which I inspected every year, but didn't have the front downpipe and cat as that's original.

Is it a new fro t section and cat ?  And what would one expect to pay and are there any preference to where to get ?

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Hi all,

I am looking put a new oil breather gasket on my dads Y plate Facelift 2.2 Petrol Auto.

I noticed a little bit of oil there (I did the Cam cover - Genuine GM) a few months ago and they are all bone dry and no problem.  The oil being a little around the place the pipe mounts to.

I suspect the gasket on the end of the hockey stick cam cover oil breather pipe needs replacing.  This is the Small gasket at the end of the breather pipe where it bolts (from memory) onto the top of the bell housing (passenger side) with two 8mm or 10mm nuts ?

I took all off for ease when did the camcover ::)

Anybody know what the part number is for the gasket ?  I assume, to be safe, that a thin smear of the black GM Gasket sealer (as used on the rocker cover) will not do any harm (providing all is clean and dry.

thanks in advance and Happy new hear to one and all.

Omega General Help / Low Oil message on display - FL Desmond
« on: 26 October 2016, 19:18:33 »
Hi all,

Had a call from my dad today.

He had a message on the central display "Check Oil Level" or something like that.  The Oil when I checked it was bang on the money a few weeks ago when I did the Rocker cover gaskets, and he checked it short time ago (last week) when he was checking other fluids and was OK.

He said the red oil can light on the dash did not complain so was not unduely worried  :D

I have asked him to check it on the morning when all cooled down, but assuming all is well, is there a level sensor which is suspect or are there any other suspects to look at ?

Thanks in advance.

Car is a Y Plate 2.2 CD Auto Facelift - 80k miles on clock, and runs sweet.

Omega General Help / Oil filter change - which way round ?
« on: 01 October 2016, 08:03:36 »
Hi all,

Oil change this weekend on the old girl  :y and just wanted to double check which way round the oil filter fits ( small paper one ) in the housing.

I recall a lip / clip on the filter which pushes and locates on the cap ?, Which tourque setting is 15 Nm ????

I removed end cap last time, so I know it's not on "silly tight".

I was amazed as how small the filter was  :o. Will of course change the big o ring on cap as that's included in the (small) box from Vauxhall.

Thanks in advance.
Andy.

Omega General Help / Is this oil too good to be true ?
« on: 18 September 2016, 15:20:10 »
Looking to give the old girl a quick oil change, Genuine GM 10/40 Semi as always  :y

Found this on the bay of the flea http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20LTR-DRUM-10W40-ENGINE-OIL-new-VAUXHALL-GENUINE-SEMI-SYNTHETIC-PETROL-DIESEL-/252529374078?hash=item3acbec737e:g:vh4AAOSwGWNUVLoL  Is it too good to be true ?

Looks like a single 5ltr is £20ish, and given the V6 takes about 5.5 ltrs need 2 x as always  :D

Not sure what a 5ltr one is these days at the Vauxhall stealer dealer ?

Thoughts ?

Hi all,

I finished the work on my Dad's 2.2 Petrol FL Auto, new GM rocker cover gasket all good  :y

I borrowed a code reader and there were 2 codes stored under Pending.

P0560, which I believe is voltage which I can understand as he did charge battery as was low.

The other code is P1781 - not 100% what this is, but intel suggests Torque Signal ?  Is this something to worry about ?, Especially as a few things got unplugged when did his Rocker cover and gave old throttle body.

Thanks again.

Andy.

Found this at the back of engine whilst I am in the process of doing rocker cover gasket.

It's not connected to anything this end, and appears to disappear down transmission area.

Car is a Facelift 2.2 Petrol Automatic.  Is it a breather pipe ?

Thanks in advance  ;)
