So start of the school holidays and again there's massive chaos and queues at Dover.  ::)

Frankley I think you want your head read if you even contemplate crossing the Channel on a ferry just at the beginning of any school holiday especially with post Brexit EU passport checks.  :-X

I wonder though, is it any coincidence that French immigration are causing massive queues at Dover the day after Britain announces that it will join the CPTPP?  ???

A petit le tiff?  ;D

Whilst under the Mondeo yesterday fiddling with the washer pump I saw that the exhaust is hanging by a frayed thread as most of the hangers have rusted and broken off the pipe.  Bummer! :(

Perusing the net this morning looking to see what a new exhaust will cost me, I found a second hand full system. Seems a bargain?  ???  ::)

Rishi Sunak has apparently pulled off a masterstroke with his new deal with the EU over Northern Ireland.  :y  Or has he?  :-\

It will be interesting to see what emerges as the small print is explored and analysed, but one thing I'm certain of, despite the EU fans claiming that the EU has shown flexibility and cooperation, they never give out for nowt and I suspect that even though it's claimed that Rishi has secured huge concessions, it will turn out that he has conceded much to the EU.  :-X

For example it's clear that EU law and thus the ECJ will still apply.  All eyes on the DUP!  ::)  :)

There is a Chinese 'meteorological balloon' floating over the USA at the moment specifically over Montana which is home to sensitive military missile sites.   :o

The American Govt has decided not to shoot it down because of the danger of falling debris, but I think Montana is prairie land?  Vast tracts of emptyness....  :-\

The Chinese for their part have admitted it's theirs and it's for researching the atmosphere and got blown off course.  :-X

Still, the Yanks have cancelled Anthony Blinkin the Secretary of States visit to Beijing!  That'll teach 'em!  ;D

On the BBC's Radio 2 five O Clock news just now, Germany's decision to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine was described as historic:)

Um...  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Germany has sent tanks to Ukraine before?  ???  :-X                                                                             ;D

... has been given a FPN for not wearing a seatbelt in the back of a car.  ;D

I think that Boris was the first PM to have had a FPN, but I guess Rishi is the first to have two. THe first of course was over the infamous cake when he was Chancellor.  :)

Will there will a hysterical witch hunt to have him removed?  ???  About time we had a new PM anyway!  >:D

My freezer has thrown a wobbly and everything has defrosted or partially defrosted.  >:(

Everything is still very cold though, so I'm wondering if I can get away with refreezing it all, or should I chuck everything out? or just chuck out stuff like pork and chicken?  :-\

It's a pink question I know, but having survived several deadly diseases and various escapades with motorbikes, cars, gliders, explosions, diving, riots, hookers etc, it would be a bit tragic to get knocked over by a bit of dodgy chicken!    ::)

TIA!  :)

He's probably just become the biggest scalp for jihadists the world over!  :o

General Discussion Area / What's Your Thermostat At?
« on: 16 December 2022, 22:07:33 »
I turned my central heating on 1st December and set the thermostat at 14 degrees to see if it was tolerable.

I'm surprised that it's still at 14 and it's OK...ish.   I wear layers and thermals, and if I get chilly I give the room a quick blast with a 2.5Kw fan heater apparently costing about 14.5p for a 10 minute blast.  I have an electric blanket on my bed and two duvets, and it's lush getting in a nice hot bed!  :y

I'm not in the heat or eat category, but I refuse to spend thousands ££££ on heating this winter which may be a tad eccentric.....  ::)

It will however be interesting to see what my bill is at the end of the month!  :y

What are you doing?  :)

THere's been predictions that Britain will run out of electricity at times this winter for various reasons.  :-\

This morning I got up and thought Effing hell it's cold, didn't think too much about it as it was cold last night and jumped in the shower only to find the water was lukewarm!  :o  >:(

After a very brief shower, I checked the central heating controller to find that there had been a power cut just when the heating and water were due to come on.  ::)

So that's the first outage. Anyone else had a power cut?  ???
