Maybe we should send a few backpackers to stick a plaque on Ayres Rock!! or set off a few nukes in their desert!! That'd teach the Aussie bastards!!  ;D

General Discussion Area / Uses for old engine oil!
« on: 07 January 2012, 17:43:06 »
I'm sure many of us have a bottle of old oil kicking around in the garage waiting to go to the tip.  ???

I've found it to be a very good alternative to creosote for garden fences and gates etc, but I also use it to polish light scrapes and scratchs on plastic bumpers and trim and it's alot cheaper and just as effective as 'Back to Black'!!  :) :y

What other things do you lot use your old oil for??  ???

General Discussion Area / My Learned Friends!!! Please Help!!!!
« on: 26 December 2011, 16:38:20 »
So I got my Mum a laptop for Crimbo  :)  But couldn't connect it to our wireless network as I've lost/forgotten the password!!  :-[

No matter thought I, I'll reset the router and then reset the password.......

However, after pressing the little reset button at the back of the router, it's not connecting to the internet.  The wireless network within the house is good however, and all the lights on the router are blue and solid except for the internet light which is orange and flashing.....  :(

Its a Belkin N1 and I've lost the manual.....  :-[

Any advice will be appreciated many thanks!!!  :y

General Discussion Area / Central heating buggered....
« on: 16 December 2011, 00:08:50 »
Hi All,

As per title and just as the weather is going to get chilly!!  :(

Its a Potterton Profile 80 conventional boiler.  The heating isn't coming on either on the timer, manually on the controller or the thermostat..... However, the the boiler runs fine when the hot water is switched on, either by the timer or manually.  But here's the thing! When the boiler is running and heating the hot water tank, the radiators are getting hot as well!!

I was thinking that the PCB was knackered but the rads getting hot when the hot waters on has confused me!!  ::)

Any ideas Peeps??  ???

Simon Wolfson the Chief Executive of Next is offering a £250,000 prize to the individual or group who comes up with a solution allowing a country (or countries) to exit the eurozone without causing massive chaos....  ::)

General Car Chat / Budget Winter Tyres!
« on: 05 November 2011, 20:23:44 »
I saw a sign outside a tyre place advertising Budget Winter Tyres!!  ::)  Now I have to admit that I'm a little cynical about winter tyres and their worth in this country....  :-\

There's been many a thread about what tyres to put on the Omega, and I think that the general concensus is that you get what you pay for......  ???

So here's the thing!! Would you be better off on quality ordinary tyres or budget winter tyres during our 10 day white-out??   ??? ::)

General Discussion Area / How stupid are some people?
« on: 21 October 2011, 22:10:59 »
I've recently had a dispute with some people who owe me money.  >:(
Over the last 6 months I have repeatedly tried to negotiate a settlement and have offered a good discount to keep it out of the courts.  They refused and so I took them to court and got a 'forthwith' County Court Judgement for the full amount owed, plus interest and all my costs.  8)
This was about 2 weeks ago and until today I had heard nothing. So I was preparing to take the next step ie bailiffs or a charge on their house.
They have contacted me today and have made me an offer, which is less than what they owe me, without the court costs and interest!!  >:(
The stupid thing is that, had they been sensible and sat down with me 6 months ago, I would have settled for a lot less than what they have offered me today.....  :o
And here's the thing.... I know for a fact that they have the money to pay as they had a large inheritance.  They bought their house in February for cash, bought a newish car, went on holiday to Greece for 2 weeks in June and had about £1500 worth of fencing put round their garden in August........  Maybe it's me who's stupid..... :-\

General Discussion Area / Brushcutters
« on: 19 October 2011, 00:27:15 »
I've got a large garden/jungle to clear soon so I'm thinking about buying a petrol brushcutter and I've spotted this....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Powerful-43cc-4in1-Brush-cutter-chainsaw-trimmer-/330626382509?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item4cfade3aad

Has anyone got one or used one?  ???  Looks like a useful bit of kit to me.....  ::)

General Car Chat / Bloody Golf!!
« on: 08 October 2011, 21:23:21 »
When I take the fuelcap off it hisses as a vacuum has built up.  It's got much worse today though.....

I'm going along quite nicely, when it splutters like it's out of fuel, but there's plenty.  So I stop, have a look and there's fuel leaking out the back!! I loosened off the fuel cap and fuel sprayed out!!  :o  There was a massive vacuum built up in the tank and I could hear things relaxing as the pressure was released... :(

It must be a blocked breather, but I don't know where to start!  There's a nozzle just in side the fuel pipe that can be wiggled!!

Any ideas??  :-\ ::)

General Car Chat / Pedal/papercip trick on other cars?
« on: 08 October 2011, 11:33:49 »
Hi All,

Having sorted all the nasty noises in my Golf GTI. I was going to advertise it, but now the EML has come on!!  :(

So I was wondering if there is an easy way to read the codes, as the Omega with the pedal or paperclip trick?  It starts and runs fine, so I don't think it's anything serious.....  :-\
