Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Heater blower fan motor
« on: 30 May 2019, 10:52:02 »
The fan itself is electrically pretty simple, it either works or it doesn't. So if high speed is missing but the fan is otherwise OK then your hedgehog (speed control unit) is likely faulty.

You can test the fan without removing it by unplugging the connector and connecting the two big wires direct to battery voltage. It should run at full speed. Alas there doesn't seem to be a reliable test for the hedgehog.

Be very careful putting in a new hedgehog as it is extremely easy to break the clips that hold it in position.

Facelift models have better access than the earlier models. It's not difficult to remove the glove-box once you identify all the screws, so take it out anyway. Wear some clear safety glasses, just in case any crud falls into your eyes whilst you have your head in the foot-well under the dash.

Omega General Help / 2 button key fob shell
« on: 18 May 2019, 17:01:27 »
What's the part number for the mating half of a 2 button key fob shell, ie the piece that mates with the half that has the buttons and holds the circuit board = GM# 9195343. It's the item with the orange seal in this photo.
Thanks,

What model year is the Omega? Is it your post face-lift 2.6?

They're a pain. Make sure you clean the bolt heads thoroughly and have a very good quality socket bit that's the correct fit. It's a 1/2" drive Triple Square M10 (XZN) splined bit. Extra long if you are going through the hole in the hub. If the socket is not a good fit due to dirt and corrosion then it's very easy to strip the spline sockets in the heads of the bolts. Perhaps try several blasts of Shock & Unlock.

You might find it problematic to get new back-plates. Somebody on the forum eventually found a pair in Germany. Not sure of the thread.

Omega General Help / Re: Cylinder Head Coolant Flange Gasket
« on: 14 May 2019, 09:56:22 »
Your engine was likely built with gasket GM# 90466993. This part was superseded by GM# 24416792. It seems that the same gasket (GM 24416792) is used on multiple engines including X20XEV and Z20LE* variants used in Astras and others.

So to answer the  question, one intended for a Z20LET will be fine. I suspect the earlier gasket is paper and the later metallic. The gasket is also included as standard in the head gasket set for these engines. So I'm a bit surprised about the lack of availability on ebay UK. Did you try a dealer for a Vauxhall original part? Or your local friendly motor factor?

As to the sensor plug. If there is a retaining cover, then pull that back (but don't break) and you should find a black clip underneath. Release and the plug should pull off. The sensor should unscrew from the flange.

What engine? Installed in an Omega? X20XEV as mentioned in your opening post?

Is that the gasket for the EGR valve? In which case you should consider blanking it off with one made from sheet metal gasket. Some say even one made from a baked bean tin.

Omega General Help / Re: Where to Locate Axle Stands (Rear)
« on: 08 May 2019, 23:01:49 »
OK, 320Nm when it is time for that.
Rear hub bearings are 300Nm.
It's the front hub bearings that are 320Nm.
Not that it makes much difference, but it does help to have the target understood and correct.

36mm and 270NM iirc :o
300Nm methinks? Not that it makes it any easier.

Sounds like a classic case of a failing crank position sensor. Read the fault codes and report back.

I wonder how long it takes to come from Nifeng Liu B1123-1126, Yousong Technology Building 11F,Donghuan First Road, 518000 Shenzhen? :-\ :-\ :-\
In this case it probably is true that the scanner will be dispatched from the UK using the Royal Mail miss-sold 48hr parcel service, so more likely 3-4 days delivery.

The item probably is a genuine Autel, whoever they are. The problem will be if it is defective or otherwise doesn't work on your car. You'll find you have to post it back to China to get a refund. Where of course it will never arrive unless you send it via a traceable service at your expense. And the cost of that will make you conclude it's not worth returning.

I buy stuff all the time from ebay. But I try and make sure the listing explicitly states that there is a UK return address. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole if there isn't.

Omega General Help / Re: Changing backbox on estate

How corroded (or not) were the ends of the centre pipes? Did you have to do anything to them?

Talk about waste not want not, you seem to have salvaged and reused the clamps, U bolts and nuts? Amazing!

I would not try to mate up a stainless and a mild steel with male/female sliding joints due to the different expansion rates of the different metals, which will be likely to result in it blowing eventually on the joint.
Either all mild steel or all stainless - not a combination.
It appears the stainless silencer appears to have been on the donor estate for at least six years. If the downstream ends of the centre sections on this estate are rotten as per usual then it's probably best to replace them rather than attempt a patch. A complete, cats downstream, exhaust sytem is not much more than the pair of centre sections. That would give you new a mild steel rear silencer.

Yep, of course it's the caliper cut-out.

Anyway my guess is that the Bristol Longlife is made to fit to unmodified centre pipes. And I suspect that the downstream ends of the centre pipes on this Omega are rusted through and there may not be enough sound tube left to connect.

I suggest not cutting too close to the clamp. Cut between the pipe sockets and the silencer so that you preserve as much of the middle section pipes as possible. You'll then have to remove the remains of the sockets and the clamps from the middle section pipes.

Looking at your photo the Bristol Longlife box is smaller than an Omega original. The Bristol stainless box has had the tubes extended to make it fit an Omega. So there may not be much, if any, excess on the centre tubes left to cut back.

That said it looks like at least one of the centre pipes is rusted through within it's socket. You might find nothing left to join into the Bristol box. Or you might not get a gas tight seal. It might be easier to ditch the centre pipes and replace with new.

Also is that a big crack in the nearside rear brake backplate?
