I'd be surprised if they did more than an oil and oil filter change - plugs and other filters are major service items.

Remember, if the front shocks are changed, it will need camber reset afterwards...

I was experimenting t'other day, and I reckoned something like 96(w) x 64(h) worked out best - too much height leads to too much blank space between posts if the posts are short...

Obviously, 96 x 64 works out awkward for some avatars without modifying them.

What do you think?

unless you 'sell' the car you're interested in, do the hpi, then cancel auction.

But we possibly couldn't condone that... ;)

Similar problems could happen on any 10yr old car, esp one that hasn't been looked after. And lets face it, BMW 3 series is a repmobile, hence probably had a hard life and no tlc for the first 3 years of its life...

My mum has a K reg 318, and it is solid as a rock, because she takes car of it.

BMW's are unreliable, with lots of warranty issues, and poor dealers, but if you look after any car, it will last...

Hummmm very interesting, being an plod one it would have been maintained well, oil changes ect... so quite probable its oil cooler! Well thats another possible  :)

With the above description of the failer, it could do what MarksDTM said to drive it back?

What do you do exactly, fill up the coolant system (to the brim?) with coolant, leave the cap off then as it uses coolant on the drive back just keep filling it up with water?
Driving on a duff oil cooler will require extensive flushing of cooling system afterwards...

1.8 and 1.4 seems to be worse. 1.6 seems to be a bit better..

a few gasket changes around 2000 to reduce the issue and then again when the zr came in - what year is yours Jamie?

Having said that i had a 97000 mile vi with no hgf. You pays your money...takes your chances
2000, built Feb 2000 (not that I had access to such stats  ;))

My 1.6 Rover 25 has done 62k, HG (touch wood) is OK, but not bored out as much as 1.8, so probably more gasket material...
