Omega General Help / Another exhaust question
« on: 13 March 2010, 21:04:50 »
One way or another I need a new cat back exhaust for my 2.6 V6.

When i replaced the exhaust on my prevous 2.5 V6 I fitted a genuine VX exhaust and was very pleased with it (despite paying list price because I didn't have a trade card then >:()

Has anyone bought a genuine VX exhaust recently? Does the reported drop in quality apply to all VX models or only those that are no longer in production???

Has anyone managed to buy an exhaust from eternalcar for a 2.6/3.2? because I can't find it on their website.

It looks to me as if the 2.6 exhaust is totally different to the 2.5 because the 2.6 has pre-cats and a deeper bumper :-/

Omega General Help / 120,000 mile service
« on: 05 March 2010, 20:35:57 »
Busy weekend for me this weekend.
Got hold of the cam/crank locking tool and going to change:

Cam belt and idlers
Water pump
Coolant
Auxiliary belt & idler wheel
Spark plugs
Oil & filter
Rear discs, pads and shoes
Brake fluid
Pollen filter
Indicator bulbs (showing white, MOT in a few days)
MID backlight bulbs (I think I must be down to one still working)

Can anyone think of any photos that could be useful to add to the maintenance guides?

Omega General Help / Tech 2 - Cam timing?
« on: 11 February 2010, 10:26:50 »
Just curious

The ECU monitors the crank position sensor and the cam position sensor.

Is there any function in Tech 2 to tell you if the cam is where it should be in relation to the crank?

There is only one cam sensor so the results wouldn't tell you what the other 3 cams were doing but it might be a way of assessing how well the last cam belt change was set up.

Omega General Help / Oops! I think i need new brake pads...
« on: 23 January 2010, 22:01:21 »
We drove 700 miles last weekend and though the brakes felt normal they made a grating noise as we approached a roundabout about 100 miles from home so I thought I would check if there was a stone stuck in the caliper.

Our local motor factors sell Lucas/TWR brake components. Astonishingly they had pads and discs in stock so I have just fitted them :)

The new ones are at the top........

Omega General Help / How long to change a V6 thermostat?
« on: 30 September 2009, 10:07:56 »
I have bought a new thermostat (& seal) to fit on my 2.6 because it isn't warming up properly.

Several years ago I had the engine out and rebuilt the top end on my old 2.5 V6 so I know I have the tools and the skills to do the job but...... last week I jacked up the front of the car, put the wheels on ramps and crawled underneath in readiness for draining the coolant. By now it was 4pm and I needed the car in the morning for a 500 mile round trip so I closed the bonnet, dropped the car back onto the ground and went back inside for another cup of tea. ::)

I am going to allow all day to do the job but I am curious as to what the official time allowance is?

Omega General Help / New Battery Required
« on: 23 August 2009, 18:04:18 »
OK, had my Omega for one week so far. Had a few niggles with the alarm going off when the engine was started, doors unlocking themselves immediately after being locked and slow cranking when starting the engine.

I have just measured the battery voltage 10.5 volts  :( (but the good news is that when the engine is started it goes straight up to 14.3v and stays at 14v with everything electrical switched on  :y).

I think the battery is the original, (so 6 years old) markings are:
Vauxhall 12 01 264 EP
12v 66Ah 300A(DIN) DF
Maintenance Free Wartungsfrei

Does anyone have any strong opinions on different brands of maintenance free batteries? If I had a trade card I would go & buy a genuine battery tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what the price for a genuine battery is from Vauxhall?

Omega General Help / 200,000 miles
« on: 28 July 2009, 17:23:47 »
My 94 2.5 V6 petrol clocked 200,000 miles today. I'm not expecting a prize ::) but I am curious as to how many miles is considered 'high mileage' for the V6.

Newbie Welcome Area / New member (but long term omega owner)
« on: 27 July 2009, 22:26:15 »
Hi from a new member.

I bought my current Omega 6 years ago (at 134,000 miles). 200,000 miles should be reached in a week or so.

If I had discovered this bulletin board 6 years ago it would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Problems I had were:
- Weeping head gaskets dripping coolant on the coil pack (ended up skimming cylinder heads & replacing rusty coil pack)
- Rumbling noises from rear (turned out to be rusty brake pads & discs. Once the pads had been freed the discs cleaned up and the noise stopped)
- Mystery misfire (after wasting time and money I eventually changed the plugs, that fixed it!)
- Clunks from front suspension (two faults: 1. roll bar links, a cheap fix 2. worn wishbone bushes. The wishbone bushes have metal inserts to prevent excessive movement. If you feel and hear a solid thump when you hit the brakes it is time to change the wishbone bushes).

When Vauxhall stopped selling Omegas I was thinking I would switch to a different marque for my next car bur this board has given me the confidence to start looking at Omegas again :y

This is a photo of the connector that is fitted behind the drivers side kick panel on a car with a BOSE amplifier.

What I want is the lower half of the plug from a car without BOSE so I can fit an aftermarket head unit without hacking the cables about.

General Car Chat / Bother - advice needed on VW Golf Autobox
« on: 05 June 2010, 20:38:21 »
SWMBO's Golf has been slow to engage a gear when first put into R or D so I thought it was time check the autobox oil level.

It took about half a pint of fluid to get it up to the correct level. I put a little too much in to be sure and caught the excess in a bowl.

I'm guessing by the colour of the fluid that this gearbox is not long for this world  :(

General Car Chat / VX Trade Club - Coming Soon!
« on: 09 November 2009, 21:05:45 »
Tried to look at the Vauxhall Trade Club website http://www.tradeclub.com/ yesterday & was greeted by the message 'coming soon'.

Should I be worried?

Has Trade Club gone away?

Does GM's decision not to sell VX to Magna have anything to do with it?

Woke at 4am this morning to the sound of a siren going off. Sounded like a powerful one but I wasn't really awake so not too sure what it was. SWMBO had been awake for some time and couldn't work out what it was. Stuck my head out of the window and it sounded like the noise could be at the front of the house. Got some trousers on and headed for the front door and the siren stopped ::)
Stepped outside and couldn't identify any likely cause. Went back to bed for a bit, worried about the powersounder so went back outside and had a sniff around the base of the windscreen, nothing, went back to bed.
Got up this morning and removed the power sounder. Before I removed it I tried triggering the alarm and we decided that it sounded like the 4am alarm but not as powerful :-/
After removing it I now get 20 seconds of fast flashing from the led on the dash when I set the alarm. If I trigger the alarm the hazards flash but not a peep from the horn  >:(
Finally I split the powersounder open to confirm how close it was to spontaneous combustion and the batteries look immaculate ::)
Time to contact andyc for a new alarm horn. Not sure about the powersounder. I think the flashing from the led (indicating a fault) may get to me and force me to replace it..............

I wonder if the powersounder would notice if I removed it's batteries and reinstalled it sans batteries?

The touch pad on my laptop is a bit sensitive, quite often I find that I have clicked something (with unintended consequences) while trying to scroll.

20 minutes ago I accidently clicked "add to buddy list" and I now have someone in my buddy list and I cannot remove them. The Yabb help says:

Quote
Buddy List
The Buddy List section of the profile gives you the ability to add other members that your frequently contact to a list that will show in your User CP view. Your Buddy List will display each name, their Online/Offline status, and link options to send the user a PM, an e-Mail, or visit the link to their website.

    * Add users to your Buddy List by clicking on the link below the Buddy List display box.
    * Delete users from your Buddy List by double-clicking on their user name inside the Buddy List display box.

Double clicking the persons name in the buddy list in my "User CP" behaves just the same as single click and opens their profile  :-/

Not really important but.....

Is there a sticky thread somewhere that lists what each grade represents in terms of messages posted?
