I am not sure if that is what they are actually called but I am missing the pieces that complete the side runners in a facelift estate.

General Car Chat / Project MV6
« on: 16 February 2017, 22:43:12 »
Finally got myself sorted a week ago ready to start driving the project and the battery had gone flat >:(

I didn't want to leave a charger under the bonnet with an extension lead back to the house so I went to extract the battery so I could charge it. First thing I found was that the retaining bolt was pretty well rusted in - it did come out though with penetrating oil and persistance  :)

Second thing I found was this.

I think this car is going to be a little more trouble than I anticipated :-\

General Car Chat / DVLA - Change of keeper - how long???
« on: 03 February 2017, 10:54:25 »
So... James delivered the MV6 to me in mid December and my intention was to SORN it over Christmas then tax &insure it January. One way or another it has taken till now to get around to sorting out insurance quotes but I still don't have the V5 from DVLA so I thought I ought to try declaring SORN online.

This is what comes up  :( so I have to assume that they lost the change of keeper slip that James sent them  >:(

Unable to use service

Unfortunately you cannot use this service yet as the previous keeper of the vehicle has not told DVLA that you are the new keeper.
You should either:

Wait until you receive the V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) in your name, and then use the reference number from it to make a SORN online
or complete the forms V890 (make a Statutory Off Road Notification), V62 (application for a vehicle registration certificate) and send with your V5C/2 to DVLA Swansea.

I wonder if Mister Rog still has the original one in his loft?

Omega General Help / Door stay repair - welding precautions
« on: 07 January 2017, 08:07:18 »
I thought the ProjectMV6 just needed a new plastic washer to stop the click of death but I  now think it is going to need a bead of weld around the plate on the A pillar.

Is there anything in the door pillar that I need to move out of the way ? or is it safe to crack on and do a quick weld?

Omega General Help / Speedo & Tacho Failure
« on: 15 December 2016, 13:42:50 »
There are a few old threads about complete failure of Speedo & Tacho. The symptoms being that ABS & TC still work as normal, all the warning lights still work but the needles on the speedo & tacho just tremble a little without getting off the stops.

Did anyone have a decent fix for this? Someone posted about having researched the chips that convert speed pulse and ignition pulse into needle position but they didn't get very far.

My reason for asking is that I now have a project MV6 that appears to have this problem. James fitted a good cluster for me but I would like to keep the original cluster (and the original indicated mileage) if possible.

General Car Chat / Big thanks to James
« on: 13 December 2016, 16:45:57 »
What a gentleman.

Can I nominate him for the OOF new years honours list?

As above really.

I haven't been driving the Omega much recently and have had a couple of flat batteries. I bought a new Tradeclub battery soon after I bought the car 7 years ago so it is probably at end of life anyway.

Is a VX battery still the way to go?

General Discussion Area / Pulse oximeter?
« on: 03 October 2016, 22:12:34 »
Has anyone got any experience of these things?

When family members have been stuck in hospital they have been hooked up to professional monitors for pulse rate and oxygen concentration. When we go to see the GP the first thing they use is a little clip on meter that goes on the end of a finger.

A quick search on the internet brings up lots of choice with prices starting at £20.

When we have been worried we have gone and got help - that will not change - but there have been occasions when we haven't been worried but probably should have been. If these little monitors actually work reasonably accurately it might be worth having one next to the inhalers :-\

Has anyone got any experience of using this seat in an Omega saloon? (Tunnie perhaps?)

General Discussion Area / Another Potterton Suprima thread
« on: 17 September 2016, 22:55:38 »
Does anyone still have any experience of these boilers?

Trying to work out whether to go for a PCB repair, an exchange PCB or a PCB replacement kit that includes an enclosed PCB (which might then not get toasted by  heat from the gas burner).

The boiler is 300 miles away so I am having to ask the step-son to provide diagnostic information.

General Discussion Area / Breakdown recovery in France?
« on: 02 August 2016, 21:29:42 »
Off to see some friends in France soon in the battlebus.

What recommendations do people have for breakdown cover?

I have AA membership but I assume it will be of no help once we leave the UK :-\
