Woke at 4am this morning to the sound of a siren going off. Sounded like a powerful one but I wasn't really awake so not too sure what it was. SWMBO had been awake for some time and couldn't work out what it was. Stuck my head out of the window and it sounded like the noise could be at the front of the house. Got some trousers on and headed for the front door and the siren stopped ::)
Stepped outside and couldn't identify any likely cause. Went back to bed for a bit, worried about the powersounder so went back outside and had a sniff around the base of the windscreen, nothing, went back to bed.
Got up this morning and removed the power sounder. Before I removed it I tried triggering the alarm and we decided that it sounded like the 4am alarm but not as powerful :-/
After removing it I now get 20 seconds of fast flashing from the led on the dash when I set the alarm. If I trigger the alarm the hazards flash but not a peep from the horn  >:(
Finally I split the powersounder open to confirm how close it was to spontaneous combustion and the batteries look immaculate ::)
Time to contact andyc for a new alarm horn. Not sure about the powersounder. I think the flashing from the led (indicating a fault) may get to me and force me to replace it..............

I wonder if the powersounder would notice if I removed it's batteries and reinstalled it sans batteries?

Same here. Who or what is WMG?

I feel I should probably do an internet search just in case there is some sinister 'big brother' censorship at play that I should be aware of but I can't be arsed...........

Brick dust on the threads? I found the killer was cutting a steel section that closed up and stalled the grinder >:(

I have destroyed the locking pin on my 9" grinder trying to remove old discs. I had to grind an open ended spanner down to make it thin enough to fit behind the disc to hold the shaft  :(

I now just fit the nut finger tight. If I have more trouble I might try candle wax in the threads.

Bunch of children!
Oi! I resemble that remark!

Shabbytat, surprised they lasted this long. A hangover from the 80s (yes, Tunnie, before you were born ;D)
I thought they did their best stuff in the 60's :-/

The only thing that I miss is channel 301. All the motoGP qualifying and 125 and Moto2 racing goes out on 301.

If it is available on freesat I haven't found it yet  :-/

I don't know what was more startling, the sight of Daz's legs covered in midge bites or the pink Crocs  :o

(tip for next year, use repellent with DEET in it. Sara bought some Boots own with 50% DEET and all the bites we got happened in the 10 minutes between arriving and spraying it on :y)

Intended fitting in the garage, where mains comes in and drain exists from previos washing machine instalation. Flood damage shouldn't be an issue too much then. But running hard water to kitchen will be tricky.

Is softened water not drinkable? Our tap water tastes like it's been treated umpteen times, can it be any worse? Or is it the minerals needed?

Freezing could be an issue in the garage I guess, but we intend fitting a new boiler in the garage too if only the old one would die.

And yes, main reason for fitting is new bathroom, plus we have been using the showers down the gym while the bathroom is in bits, where they use softened water. The difference is remarkable coming back to hard water. Skin feels like we have been out in the sun for weeks after one shower. Dry scalp returns, yuk.

How soft is soft water? I mean I doubt a domestic softener will give same results as the industrial units they must have at the gym for showers and pool etc.

And before I get accused of being gay for joining a gym, we didn't join. We had a two week trial.  :y
Salt (sodium chloride) is used to regenerate the granules when they cannot absorb any more calcium.

The theory is that some sodium/sodium chloride ends up in the tapwater. Sodium is implicated in increased risk of heart disease and strokes.

TB has shown he is a true man and will not rise to this. BUT IT WAS CLOSE. ;D ;D ;D
They said when I did my Diversity course 6 or 7yrs ago to be more tolerant of rather idiots.  I do try. Honest, I really do try.

But what rather gay moron would shove gay blue LEDs in that. Idiots. rather moronic idiots.

Probably the same one that put them in your kettle  :y :D :D
I know, you can't even buy a £10 tesco kettle without having to become feminine.
You should have bought the £5 Tesco kettle  ::) We did. No gay LEDs :y

My personal experience of similar symptoms (apparently random failure to connect to some websites) was caused by a fix I had applied years ago and forgotten about.

I had been struggling to get DNS working automatically and had entered manual settings for the DNS servers. It had worked fine for years but I assume that after my provider (Nildram) was absorbed into the Tiscali/Talk Talk/Opal/CWH
empire they eventually switched off the DNS servers I was using. I updated the DNS server settings and it seems OK now  :y

In my case I am using a Linux box as a home gateway so the details are different but the cause may be the same.

I bought a myself a TZ10. Very pleased with it so far.

My previous compact Konica KD410z was just so slooooooow.

I was tempted by a DSLR but the best camera in the world is useless if you don't have it in your pocket when the moment arises. :y

SWMBOs laptop suffered the 'black screen of death' about a year ago.

My plan was to recover her personal data and either fix windows or re-install it so I downloaded an Ubuntu recovery disk and left her to sift through the hard disk contents.

After a week of running from the live CD I shrank the windows partition to make space for an Ubuntu install (to allow it to run at a sensible speed).

A year on and Ubuntu is still in use. I never did find out how to fix the windows registry and Ubuntu 'just works'.

Excuse me for being stupid, but don't WOMEN have the only cervixes, and how do you get a headache in one??? :-?

No Six, the cervical vertebrae lie at the top of the spine closest to the skull.

The cervix is the the bottom part of the eterus where it enters the vagina.

The 'x' is the qualifying feature.

Although cervical can refer to both.  :D

Although Six already knows and was hoping to raise a giggle or two. ;D - I need to be less serious. :D :y
Cervix (latin) : the neck or pertaining to the neck.

Cervix Uteri (latin) : the neck of the uterus

I had a Potterton Prima in my last house (previous model to the Suprima, I only had to change the PCB once  ::))

The recurring problem I had was that the microswitches in the 3 port valve would burn out because they were not suitable for carrying all the current required by the boiler and pump.

1.5 ton car, 170/210 bhp (ish)  and four vented disc brakes = a sensible balance.  :)

1.5 ton car, 170/210 bhp (ish)  and two moped sized drum brakes = a shredded moped brakes. :o
What is 1.7t 2 vented disc brakes and 2 solid disk brakes though :P
Probably more sensible than 4 vented discs. If you want to stop quickly the rear brakes are mere ornaments anyway ::)
