Omega General Help / Re: Help! Missing vacuum pipe-ID sought
« on: 10 June 2011, 13:28:16 »
Hi Albs,

The elbow is still attached to the underside of the plenum, as you say, but I have no pipe.
Any idea where the pipe that connects here originates?

Regards,

Just re-installing the plenum on this extended cambelt job and i've found a vacuum pipe elbow that I don't remember disconnecting and Don't seem to have a pipe for.

The rubber elbow is right at the front of the plenum immediately under the throttle body. In that area I've connected the two coolant hoses and still have the two vac pipes to fit near the bottom of the multi ram system.

I don't have a third pipe.

Any ideas?

Regards,

Graham.

The WP seemed to sit OK, but I have read some posts about that myself. I thought the problem was the bolts fauling the impellor.

Having had my first glass of wine, I'm beginning to feel a little more positive.
This is my first quad cam V6 cambelt and the engine runs fine. A grunt a grounch and silence would have been a real problem!

I will be able to get the stuff of again pretty quick and I will sort it.

Well my mare of a Cambelt, waterpump and thermostat job is still not done.
I apologise if everyone else is as sick of it as I am.

The Aux belt fiasco finally resolved itself this morning, when my larger belt arrived and I was delighted to hear the engine start smoothly at the first turn of the key-great.

Turned off and put my new red anti-freeze in and started topping up the water.

Of course my drive is now a fetching shade of pink. Never mind the cost of the antifreeze down then drain, but I must have a problem with the waterpump/thermostat/coolant pipe. It is not the drain valve at the bottom of the rad, the water looks like its coming out at the front of the engine somewhere.

If anyone has any ideas of where to start I would really appreciate the advice.

Regards,

Graham

Hi Jollie,

My car start from cold perfectly and runs really well. However, hot starts are terrible, particularly if I park facing uphill. My symptoms are the same as yours. I've heard of other people suffering similar and several have put it down to fuel vapourisation. I have thought about lagging the fuel pipes to see if that helps.

I have no codes on my engine.

New belt arrived this morning in a fetching shade of green.
30 mm longer than VX say and fits perfectly. Tensioner nicely about midway.
I have still no idea why the 2020 does not fit. VX still not interested, which is a dissapointment. I've generally found VX pretty good. Hey Ho.
It's a Gates 6PK2050 ES (extended service) whatever that means. The clue might be on the pictures on the package which show buses, trucks and tractors!
So my friend was right, it really is a tractor.

Tidla,
This is exactly what I've done.

Gates 6PK2050 should be delivered tomorrow.
Still surprised and very dissapointed by Vauxhalls "2020 is the only option" and are you routing it correctly?
I'll let you know when the new belt comes.

Hi Osprey,

The pulleys on mine are around 420 between centres, but that is unloaded. I think 400mm will be spot on for mine too, if I could get a belt on.

I wonder if a 30mm stretch over the life of the belt might be expected, or whether it probably started out longer than the 2020mm that VX say is the only belt option(with A/C)

Thanks for looking Albs.

It's not the most sexy or interesting problem to have with a car, but it's bloody annoying. I feel like i'm going round in circles, unlike the belt.

On the contrary Albs, that's 30mm longer!! oo-er, which is probably enough to make a difference.

I know I'm asking a lot, but you haven't got records of when you bought that belt have you? Part no's etc.

Thanks

Hi Albs,

I was pushing so hard I started to tighten the bolt, which is already pretty tight.
It also stops quite suddenly and feels as if you are hard up against the cast stop.
I reckon total arc from rest to stop is about 70 deg, which the guy I spoke to on the helpline said sounded about right.

it looks right, but Can I have put the tensioner on the wrong way around? Is it possible? I don't think so?

I haven't fully tightened and torqued the pulleys yet, but they are all centred and concentric.

I've just been out to measure my pulleys, which match Briks.

My water pump pulley (Brik didn't mention) is 130mm.

Hi Brik,

I'll just go out and check those sizes now.

Did you mean 2200mm or 2020mm belt length. (mine is 2020)

Hi HJD,

Thanks for that, it is the routing I'm using.

I'm starting to lose the will to live. 6 hours to strip down, do cambelt, waterpump and thermostat, then 6 days (and counting) to fit the fan belt.

I must be missing something?

Regards,

Graham.

Still got probs with this aux belt. Have spoken again to the dealer and also the trade club helpline. No new ideas at present. I'm sure I'm routing it correctly, the belt is the correct part no and the proper length. The only thing I can think of is I have one or more non-standard pulleys on the car.
If possible will people have a quick look at the photo's attached to see if all looks OK.

Regards,

Graham
