Omega General Help / Re: V6 Aux belt too small?
« on: 07 June 2011, 00:02:29 »
Hi Osprey,

Just checked my belt ref and no. and it has the same part no. as yours, ie 93181720. The belt is a 2020mm.
Did you find that the belt slipped on to the water pump pulley OK providing the tensioner was fully eased off?
Do I have to lever it over with a 3 foot screwdriver? I assume not.
Something is not right- just not sure what at present.

Thanks for your help.

Graham.

Tensioner seems OK.

I did take it back off to see that the tabs were in the right place (these are the casting tabs that limit the pivot range) The tensioner seems to rotate smoothly but with some force around 70 degrees and than stops hard against the stop.

Hi Albs,

Yeah, I've been using the water pump pulley last. that's the only one without a lip.

I only need another inch or so (can't believe I just posted that)

Just tried a string mock up at 2260 and that is much too big. I guess earlier cars with an extra bottom pulley needed that one. 2020 is still too tight however. Could I have a non standard pulley or tensioner somewhere? It all looks right.

Graham.

The dealer is polite but disinterested. I have checked routing (3 sources) doubled checked the tensioner parts are still assemled correctly and measured the belts 2020mm. The dealer suggested I call the trade club helpline and after listening to their message (around 60p's worth of not me guv) I left a message that has not been returned.
Why o why did I throw that old belt away!!

Graham

Rob,

Where did you get that size for the car with A/c from.

The motor factors and vauxhall supplied me with a 2020mm belt? Vaux say there is only one size.
Where would you order the size you mention?

Graham.

I've ogt a Aux belt from a motor factors and then direct from Vauxhall, but both are too short. Vauxhall say there is only one for A/C cars but it definately won't fit. I've checked routing and the tensioner seems OK.

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Re: I've had a right cambelt mare!
« on: 02 June 2011, 16:52:54 »
Thanks for the replies-

Andy, I did start by putting it on clockwise and it was miles out. On the second go I tried anticlock (this is contrary to all written instructions I've seen) but the belt looked looser than Nora Battys' tights on both sides.
Kevin, I think you may have it. The belt just would not go on tight (on the RHS) as the teeth did not line up.

One thing I think we are all agreed on is the Haynes explanation is only worthy of emergency Andrex.

Thanks.

Graham.

Omega General Help / I've had a right cambelt mare!
« on: 01 June 2011, 15:36:45 »
I've finally got around to doing my cambelt, waterpump and thermostat and it's been a right little *ast***.
Strip down went easy enough and the waterpump and thermostat went in OK. Obviously, the thermostat and coolant pipe were a knuckle skinning PITA. The B bolt is well monika'd.
I had prepared by watching the OFF DVD and made a list of the main steps. My new belt was not marked with fitting lines and this was part of my problem. I was not sure how to position the belt and in the end left the tensioner to absorb the small ammount of slack present. Once rotated, the timing marks were around 10mm out (evenly). Then, I realized that only one of the two idlers were eccentric and could be used for adjustment (the top one). This however did not provide anywhere near enough to correct the cam 3/4 errors and didn't effect cams 1/2 at all.

After about 6 goes, I got the belt on in the right place, god knows what I did, but I would like to know how it should be done?
Finally, with just enough energy left to get the car re-assembled I realised the fanbelt was far too tight to go on. At this point (8.30) I threw my tools in the garage and opened the wine.

If anyone can help me with ideas on how this belt should have been fitted I would much appreciate it. All the oof info, the Haynes manual and the cambelt kit info all refer to two idler adjusters!
If I can't work out a sensible method I doubt I will try to do this again?

Thanks for looking!

Omega General Help / Re: Towbar recommendations
« on: 28 April 2011, 11:28:51 »
Hi,

I was in the same position until last week. Got a quote from a good company local to me for £209 fitted for a twin electrics G67A witter towbar. (too expensive for me)
Last one was around half that but as it was for an older car, it didn't need to be type approved, my new 2002 mig of course does. I looked on ebay and the same towbar was on B-I-N for £50. £9.50 postage using payperparcel from Scotland- not bad. They are out there.
I will be fitting a auto switching split charge relay to use with our caravan, so power is only delivered to the leisure battery and caravan fridge when the alternator is charging.

Some thing like this :-

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=split+charge+relay&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Hadn't thought about the bypass relay, but perhaps one with the winker buzzer integrated might be a good idea.

Regards,

Graham.

Omega General Help / Re: Which Alternator for 2.6 Y26SE
« on: 13 April 2011, 18:52:15 »
I'm not sure that mine is O/S just yet. I have a battery drain problem, which I have not been able to solve. It could of course be an Alt problem, maybe not. I agree that a rebuild is an easy and effective repair, however, a correct spare alternator at the right price, is even easier. Particularly, as we frequently travel to France with our main car and you don't see hardly any Vauxhall/Opels over there!

Thanks for your help folks!

« on: 11 April 2011, 22:51:01 »
Is it the 120A version?
Mines a CDX, so not quite as electrified as an Elite, but still pretty thirsty for amps I would have thought.

Graham.

Thanks for the answers folks- all of them!
I think it will have to wait until I'm in there before I can be sure. The fact that I have a GM part eases my mind a little, because if the markings were critical for fitting, surely the GM belt would have them.
I will be especially careful (who wouldn't be?) when doing the check rotations to ensure the belt remains taut and the timing marks are OK.

Graham.

Thanks for the reply Andy. I couldn't get my head around why the belt was marked in the first place. If the timing is right and the belt is correctly tensioned I couldn't see how its starting position would matter.

Graham.

Any thoughts about how to deal with the fact the belt (a GM part) is unmarked?
