Just about to make a start on swapping coil pack over on my 3.0 MV6.

Symptoms are systematic with a faulty one - misfire, no management light, no oil in water (or vice versa).

First thing I realise I need us a set of Tork sockets, got the the "male" version but not these ones.

I've read the forum "how to" but just wondered if anyone has any particular dos and dont's before I make a start - once I get back from Halfords with my sockets

8 or 10 mm socket will do the job, no need to buy !

Not too bad a job. Scuttle off, then pull the leads off. Four bolts at the corners, male torx heads, but space limited on head side so I find 8 or 10mm sockets better, with various extension bars. Unplug the power cable after removal, it's difficult when installed.
New coil pack has sockets numbered for leads, LHS leads go on front, RHS at back.

One of the bolts is a nightmare to remove/replace so I alwAys left it out without issue! You'll know which one it is as your wrist will have dislocated on it

Got the blighter out - reckon about half hour "sussing" the job and about hour and half getting it unbolted and removed from the car.

Looked at Haynes manual, but thankfully didn't need to remove wiper mechanism or wiper motor, just tied wiring and tubing out the way managed to reach bolts with various socket attachments/ extension bars and extracted it through the drivers side - it certainly wasn't going to come out the passenger side  without removing a lot more "bits" !

At least I'm happy it's knackered as it was split in two places and the bottom had rotted out on one end - I haven't wasted my time

New Bosch unit ordered from Andrew Page for £115 +vat

I know what I'm doing Wednesday morning now

Not loosing coolant are you? If so, check the coolant bridge on the back of V isn't pissing coolant all over it. That's what did mine in years ago.

i always take the inlets out cos you can sneak it in n out easier. just my pref though

quadruple check you got the leads hooked up to the corresponding pot

Coolant level hasn't changed to speak of, but will keep an eye on it 

It looked like it was the original part on the car to be honest judging by its overall condition - maybe wrong though.

Looking to be extra careful putting leads back on right sequence as you say Webby - want a nice clean fire up when I turn the key

Check you scuttle is water tight , mines finally sealed up after 10 attempts

The scuttle is a bastard to get back on properly without it breaking or me getting frustrated....

Iv had to replace my coilpack twice in a week because of using 2nd hand parts, even known to be working good parts have also failed and driving around the country whilst on holiday on 4 cylinders aint fun, the drive back was

Once the scuttle is sealed up you shouldn't have to take it off again , if you pull the passenger side rubber trim up and look at the join towards the bottom you will see a hole where the water gets in  This eluded me for years but now i fixed the blighter
