Hi.

My Dad has a blowing section on his exhaust on his face lift 2.2 Petrol auto.

From what he says, it's on or near a flexible section on the front.  He had a stainless system fitted a few years ago, which I inspected every year, but didn't have the front downpipe and cat as that's original.

Is it a new fro t section and cat ?  And what would one expect to pay and are there any preference to where to get ?

It's probably flexi itself blowing, have it cut out and a replacement flexi welded in.

Be around £15 for the flexi itself, do you know anyone who can weld?

Do not be tempted to replace the cat, genuine ones far better.

Ok, thanks for the advice.

I have got him to take it back to the place who did his exhaust (who do custom systems) so hopefully they can help him out and put a new flexible section in.

UPDATE:  My dad went to the place who installed his Stainless system, and they have said they can Cut the offending flexible bit and put a new flexi on or replace with a short straight stainless solid section.  The recommendation from the exhaust people was to put a straight section in.  Apparently, their reasoning was that flexi bit only really beneficial with Front Wheel Drive cars (so I assume it moves more ?)  Given Omega is the more superior Rear Wheel Drive then I guess a straight section would be OK.  Also, any issues in future they can sort as they guarantee the whole system anyhow    and he gets to keep is original CAT

Reason for flexi on a FWD car is that when revs applied/released the engine[being across the car] rocks front to back,where on RWD cars the engine is font to back and therefore rocks side to side,and yes I know some FWD cars have the engines mounted front to back like a RWD car.

There's no way I'd remove the flexi for straight pipe, it will just lead to stress fractures in the rest of the system.
How much did they want to weld in the new flexi? Just wondering if a new down pipe would be cheaper.

It's there on the 4 pot only and is needed to allow for movement with that engine - just stick with a new flexi, they last 10 years so will see the car out

Cheers for the heads up.  I shall get my dad to question the chap.

The Garage (and chap my dad actually spoke to) is the one who built, welded and installed the stainless system.  It has a lifetime guarantee, so if there are any issues then they are only making them for themselves
