Rear Window not working - Makes noise, but no action !
« on: 01 August 2020, 20:34:14 »

Hi all.

Went to visit my dad and gave his Desmond (Y Plate Facelift 2.2 Auto Petrol) a once over and bit of an "Italian Tune up" as not used for months.

All was ok but when checked all windows rear drivers one came down half way then stopped and would not go up or down.  Bit of a clunk then now move at all !!!! :-[

I can hear the motor when press up and down ??  Am I correct that something has come disconnected from the bottom of the Glass inside ??

I managed to push, pull the window back shut.

Any advice gratefully recieved, and if rear door card easy to remove ??

My MFL V6 Had a nice run there and back  :y  I still prefer my MFL and the V6 :) but and advice on the window I can hopefully fix it for him next time I go there.

Cheers again,
Andy.

Door card self explanatory to remove, except two hidden screws... One in the depths of the armrest handle behind a cap and one behind the ashtray :y

Work the window up and down with the switch and liberallu whilst spraying silicon spray into the runners.

It's good practice to cycle all the windows/sunroof and doors once a month, if only to keep them working  ;)

Is that for the MFL or Face Lift ?   My Dads is the Facelift and I recall cards and handles are different, but screws maybe same location for either ?

And I assume glass has just come off somewhere inside ?

Face lift ;)

Those are the only two 'hidden' screws on the rear doors, rest are pretty obvious around the periphery  :y

The motor can be unjammed by slackening the screws holding its body together. If the cable is off that will be obvious, but actual repair depends on what you find...  ;)

I can hear the motor operate up and down, just window not move, so assume motor not jammed.  It went half way down then a clunk then stopped.  I pushed window up to secure it as it failed to move any direction.  Hopefully should be a simple fix  :-\

That suggests that the mechanism is to longer attached to the glass.

:y  What I suspected but not done them on the Omega.   Fingers crossed..

Also, I did notice that the Front Passenger door card was loose at the top (by the lock actuator mech) and vibrated like a bugger when driving and on idle !  Annoyed the hell out of me.  Is there a clip at the top of the door card ?  Looks like its come away a little as can push it back into the door as thre seems a good gap at the top  :-\

L shaped plastic strip which hangs the door card by way of some spring clips.

Will probably need gluing back in place, but there's supposed to be a quarter inch between the outside edge of the top of the door card and the glass ;)

Gorilla Glue is ideal for reattaching the plastic strip. Positioning it will be obvious as it is unlikely the whole length of the strip will have become detached, and there will be marks where it was positioned previously. Some have said small self tappers are required to locate it, but I have found these are unnecessary and you run the risk of damaging the outer trim vinyl if not careful. I also spread the metal clips slightly on the door where the trim sits because they have 'barbs' to grip the trim which are unnecessarily tight (which is why the trim parts company with the door card in the first place when knocked upwards to release it) so that they hold the trim but not ridiculously tightly, as the same problem will occur next time the door card is removed.

If care is used, the clips aren't a problem, but people inswon ripping the door card off rather than applying some thought to it :-X

Thanks all for help.  I'll reserve an hour and a Brew next time I am at my dads to sort his Desmond out.

Keep safe all.

Andy.
