How to rectify?
« on: 15 December 2020, 18:22:16 »

Recent problems with computer saw my granddaughter turn up to de-bug it and install AVG protection, however since then when I log onto the forum it shows "Not secure" rather than the lock symbol it used to have. How do I get it back to the lock symbol while signing in? Using Google at present.

To be slightly accurate ... unusual I know in this forum ..

The actual website   ... https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php .....  IS secure .. and using an https (secure) server .. however (always one of those ... ) because the site does NOT host pictures, all of us who use avatar pictures host them elsewhere .. and that is what is deemed as "insecure" .. as the browser simply sees data from mixed sites, and knows not why, but knows that is an "insecure" system as the additional data (your avatar) may have "infiltrated" the site code...

thus any page with an avatar on it will show as insecure ... go to the home page

https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php

(no avatars there) and it shows as secure ....

Not strange at all ..... if you know why !

The search engine (I used google as I expect you did) links to an http:// version of the site .... that is insecure ... I linked to the https:// version .... which is the secure version ....

Just to add my opinion (I know others differ on here), if you are using a fully updated version of Windows 10, and allow Automatic Updates (or are slightly tech savvy and manually update daily) then there is no need whatsoever for any third party AntiVirus/Malware/Spyware software.

IMO, it is just bloatware, which takes up valuable system resources.

In addition, we still also serve the old http non secure pages, if you go to http:// instead of https:// - that will highlight as non secure in most browsers as well.  Other than that, its as Entwood says  :)

I concur that for most people, the built in Windows Defender is more than good enough, and has less impact than other options. Why wouldn't you use it :y

I need to update our Solarwinds regardless, but luckily we are not affected by that lovely hack!
