Car Cleaning - Dash Board
« on: 01 June 2021, 11:36:52 »

My neighber just asked whats the best product to use. So I said I would have a look at Halfords for her.

If they have a section for cleaning products then I gave up looking for it, ECP not much better.

I warned her off silicone spray (bugger if it gets on the glass) so open to the OOF consumer advice section.

TIA. :y

Warm water.

Every product I have ever seen makes plastics shiny which is the last thing you want for a dashboard in my opinion

Ambersil Foaming Upholstery Cleaner...

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/interior-cleaning/ambersil-groom-upholstery-cleaner-500ml-705152.html

Every time. I use it for pretty much everything inside the car. Any leather gets followed up with Autoglym leather cleaner and care balm.  :y

I vacuum the mud up once a month, and throw a microfibre cloth over the dash.

I wipe it over with a damp cloth now and again, and if I feel it needs some 'product' on it, I just use whatever surface cleaner comes to hand.   :y

Currently Tesco's Apple surface cleaner which costs about a quid.  :)

"Magic erasers" were a huge surprise to me when used on grubby light coloured plastics, omega sun visors came back to brand new for example

I understand the words 'dash board' but, 'car cleaning' does not compute.

You can use most things, furniture polish is fine, but spray the cloth and work it in the cloth a bit before applying to dash.

I have a pack of baby wipes on the passenger seat with a little weak disinfectant liquid poured into the pack .
I wipe my face with babywipes when i get in the car after wearing a mask.
then i use the babywipe to wipe over the wheel, or dash, trim or my knob  :o (gear selector)  ;)
then put the babywipe in a bag , they are then used as rag , (wipe dipstick  :P ,mop up oil spills etc )
then thrown in the bin for landfill  ;D

I agree, which is why I use THIS stuff. It brings out the colour without adding a slick or shiny surface, is easy to apply, lasts ages, doesn't have a strong scent, is economical in use and cheap to buy - about £15 for 5l which has lasted me about 12years so far.

It's a trade product, so you're not paying for marketing or a fancy container. It works on all the self-coloured plastics inside and out, so you don't need separate products for the external trim, seals, tyres or underbonnet.
