Misfire 2.5 V6
« on: 14 August 2021, 10:53:47 »

I took the old girl to car wash other day and ended with misfire. It's obviously a water related misfire, the trick is to find  the culprit :-[
I left omega to stay over night, since I don't drive it so often but the misfire was still there next day. So I took plenum off, made sure all plug leads were dry, used contact spray and the misfire disappeared.
Until the next day.
Work done till now : spark plug leads replaced, dis pack replaced a year ago (original Bosch) everything to no avail.
Spark plugs are next on to do the list....Could water somehow damage relatively new dis pack at the back?
Any help appreciated :-\

My money is on the dispack ;)

Is the foam still there on the scuttle? Bet it's full of water. Best thing is to remove it. That way the water runs away down the bulkhead instead of filling the foam and dripping all over the dispack  ;)

I removed the foam a long time ago, for that reason exactly. But the dis pack is only a year old. How can it fail in such a short time? The old one had a crack, and the rust was clearly visible. But that one was 20 years old

Have you checked yet for water and/or oil in the plug wells?

No water in them in fact there was no water in plug wells to begin with. No oil either - vectra cam covers doing their job well. I also used a bit of contact cleaner on plugs to get rid of any possible moisture

Have you checked the harness plug to the dispack?

Also the injector loom plug, also on the bulkhead next to the dis pack ;)

Misfires are either fuel or spark related, and the car won't be able to tell you which...
