alarm or not?
« on: 21 October 2021, 14:02:30 »

Was speaking to a guy recently about getting a replacement key fob, and he'd asked does it have an alarm, immediately I thought well Yes, since I've reoved the power sounder and the hazards flash if I jack the car or open bonnet when it's locked, but he asked does it have sensors inside. Going by my cavalier diplomat which has those movement sensors up top of the B pillar, like little built in microphones, I though it woud have, but it doesn't seem to.

So is there different types of alarms on the omega, the guy said some dont have the sensors, so what does it have if that's not an alarm?

If it is a standard production vehicle as opposed to Plod then yes, it has an alarm.

The volumetric sensors are on the front reading lights :y

Just looked at mine - 2001 Omega Elite 3.0 Saloon. You're right - no ultrasonics at the top of the B pillar - just a plastic blanking plate over where they "should" be. Never noticed that before.

Yes, they're in the sides of the front map reading lights.

Don't think the GLS has the alarm either.  As I think it was GLS and some of the low end specials, including plod, that took the different fob due to having a central locking ECU rather than the alarm ECU

Preface lift perhaps. :-\

Certainly all the face-lift retail* cars I have owned had interior sensors and power sounders except Plod, and they ALL had alarms.  ;)

* GLS, CD, CDX, Sport and Elite. The other three were Plod... GLS spec with Elite wiring.  ;)

that makes sense now that you mention where the sensors are. There is what looks like a blanking plate at the top of the B pillar but it's just a bit of trim.  :y

Was getting a bit alarmed there!

That might have been where they were on the earliest cars, and they went for the cheap option of using the blanking plates rather than redesigning/retooling the B Pillar trim ;)

Yes. Prefacelift have the sensors at the top of the B pillars. And at least on the Norwegian market only higher spec models had alarm in the early years. 94-95 ir remote cars. They all had remote central locking and immobilizer though.
