Apparently the Highway Code will be amended to allow people to watch TV/films, surf the internet read emails etc while their self driving car carries them from A to B. 

Apparently the use of mobile phones will still be prohibited because it may be a distraction!

I just heard that.  The bloke was trying to justify it by saying if it wasn't allowed, the "driver" would fall asleep.


Still, I think most drivers currently update arsebook or watch an episode of celebrity love shagging whilst driving anyway.

Been involved in the electronics for the controllers for such things for a little while, requires mulitple monster processors, stacks of sensors, warning devices etc.

For me, self driving cars are not something I personally am interested, I quite enjoy driving!

Yet you speak to the ADAS team and they think its a major selling point.

Shouldn't be an issue, as they are actually the easier type of item of diagnose.....part availability and price though is another thing (although most sensors are just cameras, Lidar, radar etc)

All of which will make demands on limited electrical power in the future...

Either or from what I have seen. Although there have been issues with people paying for the subscription, then not being able to drive the car for months awaiting parts from unrelated work. Apparently Tesla customer service is about as good as Amazons.

Depends on the automation level, at higher levels no. But the vehicle has to have multiple means of take control warning (e.g. seat shaker, visual and audible)

I like the idea of a device that punches you in the face. Take it to your designers and sort it out

So.  watching TV  will be ok, but you cant use a mobile phone  on the move (Aparently the same for a passenger from what i have seen on Social media)

You cant eat on the move.  as you have to have both hands on the wheel whilst drivng.  and you must be in control of the car at all times.

So , if the car is driving does that mean the passengers can enjoy a picnic whilt watching TV and then jump in the back and make out.



Personally I want to drive the car myself butthe safety aids could work well to avoid accidents & incidents especialy on long or late night journeys

Apparently there was a post today where the police pulled over a car with a ligh out, and the car (Automatic driver mode) saw it was safe to drive off and leave the police officer stood in the middle of the road (Who gets the ticket?)

Good for a night out at the pub, too much to drink, sit in the passenger set and let the car drive whilst you watch TV
