Ulster and Northern Ireland arent the same thing. Northern Ireland is 6 counties. The ancient kingdom of Ulster is those 6 counties plus 3 others.  ;)

Picked up a random misfire code under sustained load, which if repeated, narrowed down to P0304.

Plugs pulled and whilst old, were ok. New coil ordered along with 12 plugs.

The plugs themselves took a whole ten minutes to change. The coil about 30 seconds.

The part of the job that took three hours? Removing the leads. Only 5 of the twelve are undamaged. And only seven are what you might call serviceable >:(

I suppose it kind of is, in the loosest sense. If you accept the British Isles are part of the European coninent. Personally, I dont.
The UK, or British Isles, just happen to be close to Continental Europe, but we have little in common with them.  :) :)

Anyway - My French contraption is a little difficult to start when cold, and nigh on impossible to start when hot.
I have read about someone who had the same problem with a car with the same engine, and they reckon it was due to a lazy starter motor.
The theory being that the engine needs to spin at a preset rpm in order for the ECU to allow the injectors to fire and start the engine.
The preset rpm being higher for a hot start.
Does this sound feasible, or a load of old cobblers ?  :-\

Does it start better with jump leads connected?

Havent tried that tbh. Might take a set and a spare battery to work with me tomorrow night, so I can see if that it to start when its hot.  :y
Although if its the starter motor getting lazy, would an extra battery make it spin faster ?  :-\
Battery on the car was new earlier this year btw, so that shouldnt be a problem.

If it's starting to wear out, then heat might close up the bearings making it spin slightly slower. The extra oomph should over come this.

Basically, if the extra oomph makes no difference, then the starter is probably ok, but if it helps then the battery might be slightly undersized and/or the starter is getting lazy.

As far as combustion goes, the glow plugs should preheat when cold and not/less so when up to temperature.  :-\

Might be worth cleaning the starter connections and see if that has any effect  ;)

Speak nicely to the little fella, instead of shouting at him all the time. When you arrive at your destination, say "We'll done, Pierre". It will work   make you look a right cûnt   might just work, you never know  ;D

Drove it to Norwich again.

Runs better now after fresh plugs and leads, but still drops a plug or two if you hammer on it so will have a gander at the codes once my exams tomorrow are done. Hopefully it will be a different coil to the new one... :D
