Changed the oil in the Big Black Pussy...   ...and flattened the battery in the process, which in turn meant I overfilled it, and had to suck about 1l out again.

The electronic oil measuring system really hacks me off. My A6 has a tube (for suction purposes, even though I still drain at the sump plug) so why not put a dipstick in it. I keep meaning to pop in to Audi to see if they do a Service Dipstick, as I can't believe that they would go through the charade of warm up engine, park on level ground, wait for two minutes while standing on one leg whistling Dixie, just to check the oil level.  ::)

That procedure was developed by German engineers. It's easy to believe that they think it makes sense.

Todays task is to investigate the squealing from NSR of the Battlebus, accompanied by the wheel heating.

Gut reaction is its the bearing rather than brake, but fingers crossed its not, as I can't get a bearing until Tuesday at the earliest, as no factors stock bits for rare cars like an Astra...

Car is needed tomoorow afternoon to transport exhibits for a long delayed exhibition about 90 miles away.
Very common for the rear pads to stick in the slides or the calliper to seize on Astra /Zafira
I strip the pads out and clean it all up ,wind the pistons in etc every year

Fortunately the Alabama Mumsybus was built for Americans so it has both a dipstick tube AND a dipstick.  :D

Yeah, had that before.

This time is was a seized slide pin.  Managed to free it, then remove it and clean it up.  Job jobbed. And then a thoroughly enjoyable trashing to test it :)

Also, readjusted the wipers to they miss each other ;D

I paid £1.61.9 for derv in the wife's car today. But, at 55mpg, it still works out a lot cheaper than petrol.

Four new tyres fitted to the Alabama Mumsybus. Much better to drive now than it was with the selection of finest ditch finders that it arrived with.

Starting to get silly now when combined with ridiculous gas and electricity prices. :-X

People already finding it hard are really going to struggle in future.

The cost of food is also rising. :-\

I have mentioned on here before about a new garage that was built in Barnsley, owned by an Asian chap. When I passed there this aft, it was £1.68.9 for derv. There is another garage within five minutes drive at £1.61.9, but his forecourt was still busy. Account customers? I have no clue, but I'm sure I'd drive five minutes to save 7p a litre.

Not sure if its the same, but there were a few garages in central/west london that charged 50-60p/l over the odds, but had an unbelievable 'loyalty points' bonus scheme that would let drivers earn things like mobile phones, designer sunglasses etc.

It was put there for all the drivers / chauffeurs of the super wealthy who would just recharge the extortionate cost of the fuel to their employers.

These garages were always heaving with flash cars.  :y

Diesel on the motorway? Sounds dangerous as well as expensive.
