Title: So who are we all - Meet and Greet
Post by: Markie on 11 July 2006, 20:16:43
New forum so maybe we should all go round the table and say a little bit about ourselves....

Maybe i should start.

Okay so i am 31, married with one child, 2 wee dogs a gold fish and a horse!

Work in management of Contact Centres and long for the day i can retire ( at 40) and play with engines and play at golf.

Drive the MV6 which i accidentlly bought and then couldnt part with. V reg pre facelift.

Buy all my cars at auctions as a bargain including my wifes volvo v5 engined Safrane, my Dads current Mitsi Galant and my 3 project cars. Total cars in the garage 5. More on that elsewhere and later.

Rovers are my thing and Omegas still scare me a bit - but with the help of the gurus on here, i am learning. I have taught myself about cars so obviously still huge gaps in the knowledge - particularly regarding auto electrics.

Avid football fan as well as being into me motors.

So who else do we have?

ps should say i am almost a dealer  16 cars sold last year, 5 sold this year, 3 stripped and one being renovated.

Right here goes.

I'm 37, married with 3 kids eldest is 11 years, youngest is 10 months. Bit of a gap i know but i thought my s3x life was over as well. [smiley=shocked.gif]
Structural designer by trade but currently working in the water industry.
Home is in the north of scotland, so if I see the sun I usually go from blue to grey in colour.
My knowledge of vehicles is very limited, and only consists of what I have been through to get my own Omega though various MOTs. But I'll chip in if I think i can help.
I'm more of a voyeur.
I found you guys on Vxon at the beginning of the year and since then have been an avid reader.

Hi, my name is Steve and I,m an alcoho....sorry, wrong forum.

I'm 53, married to Mo who is a headteacher and drives an MGZT190. One sprog called Ben who has aspergers syndrome so keeps me on my toes!

I find it very strange that I am contributing to a forum dedicated solely to omegas, as if I'd found the forum before I bought the car I'd probably never have bought the car, if you see what I mean.

My knowledge of modern cars is very limited and I hanker for the days when I could climb in with the engine on my triumph herald.(Yes,you really could. Both wings lifted staight up and the engine was about the size of a sewing machine) Ahhh.. those were the days.

Later,Steve :)

Well I'm 43 married, 3 children - a know it all 8 year old teenage girl who is 9 in August, 6 year old twin boys - possibly identical.

I have quite a few hobbies, I have modified a few vehicles, including my first proper bike - a tuned Suzuki GP100 (sport), a souped up Chrysler Sunbeam. I also like modelling, both plastic aircraft kits, and model railways.

I am an electronics addict and have a large collection of Beta VCRs, a decent home cinema setup, good video camera and have made and sold my own DVDs.

I also have a first generation IDTV!!!!

My last 5 cars have been big Vauxhalls, prior to that I ran the above Sunbeam

For those who don't know me, my name is Lee i'm 33, married with 2 children. I have 1 dog (Bull mastiff) & 3 cats.

I work as an IRS Engineer and have been doing so for the last 3 year, I know absolutely nothing about cars except for changing the water and oil.

I drive an omega 2.5 Elite for long distance trips and general grandad type driving, and have had a Mitsubishi Evolution VIII for 3 weeks (got it for the right price off a m8) to hang out at the usual boy racer type events.

Thats enough of me i'll let someone else take the stage.

Hi one and all!

My name is Andrew and I was known as X20XEV on the other site.  I am 31.

As posted elsewhere I have owned (and still own) a Cavalier CDX for the past 9 years along with an Omega 2.5 CDX for the past 7 months.

Single, with 50 children!!  Not mine, I am a Cub and Beaver Scout Leader which is where my time goes.

Always had an interest in cars - particularly the big Vauxhalls.  I still remember sending off for the Senator brochure and marvelling at the electronic dash.  Always wanted a senator but never quite made it.  I am also a fan of the old Rootes Models (Hillman, Humber, Singer, Talbot, Sunbeam etc).  Some of you may remember these cars?

In my "spare" time, I maintain 2 transit minibuses one for my Scout Group and the other for my Scout District.  I also own my own transit van which I also maintain myself.

Consider myself to be reasonably knowledgble about cars - certinally not as good as others on here though!

That will do for know - bad habit of writing too much and used to be told off at school for this!

Didn't get a chance to do this over there.

I'm Tim.  Married to Rio (Yes, she dances on the sand!)
We have 5 kids between us.  Ages 21,19,16,13 and 11.  Two eldest in RAF, two youngest in Miami and the middle one in New York.  Oh the delights of previous marriages!

I'm an Air Traffic Control Systems Engineer.  I manage a team of engineers whom maintain the seviceability of the mainframe at the Air Traffic Control Centre in West London.
Rio is a Prison Officer!

Have many interests, but never specialise.

Last book read.  Davinci Code.  Only because everyone else has and I felt left out.
Goals.  Build the motorbike I wanted when I was 20.  Learn to play Guitar.

Well, most of you know me. My name is Finlay, I am 21 (SHUT IT!!!!!!!) and live in Nottingham. We own several businesses and Omegas is very much a hobby of mine, albeit an extra business too. I am married (16 years) and have a great son who is exceptionally gifted in many areas, not least graphic design. He knocked up the site logo in 5 minutes.

My experience with all things mechanical started at about 8 with taking my bicycle apart. I moved on through various motorbikes including the dreaded FS1E. I also spent 3 years in the RAF fixing Tornado aircraft and also worked for Jack Barclay Rolls Royce in London fixing expensive cars. I have rebuilt many automatic gearboxes over the years and hence my willingness to buy an Omega with a dead autobox.

I broke my back when I was 7, crushing 2 vertebrae but amazingly didn;t know about the damage until 2000 when my back gave in. I have had 3 operations so far on my spine, the most recent one giving me a new lease of life, although I am still in pain most days, I am far more mobile than I was a year ago.

I learn very much by doing things and have pretty much a photographic memory. There is very little I won't or can't take on with a car, as some of my projects have shown and surprised many.

My involvement with this forum are because of a fall out with another forum, the details of which are now history. Suffice to say I approached several key people to find that they were very much interested in starting this forum. The rest, is history and here we all are.

My ambitions with the site are simple. I want it to become THE place for Omega owners to look first for advice, help and a good fun chat. I have no visions of grandure for me, just for the site. I think you will agree we have a good team here and some great forum members already, each and everyone with knowledge and experineces of Omegas to share.

There you go. A little about me.

Hi all,

I am Merv, 38, married with 2 boys.

I am mechanically challenged, but love my omega to bits.  I somewhat shamelessly use the superior knowledge of the amazing people on this (and previously the other side!) forum to get enough knowledge to avoid getting (completely) ripped of by garages!

Cheers
Merv

Hi all

I am Roy and I am 23

I currently am living with my partner and have 2 sons, Liam nearly 2 and Kai is 4.

I currnetly have a 97P 2.0 16v in silver it has its little niggles but nothing major so far. I also have another 94M 2.0 16v in black which i am doing up for my dad ideally he would have had a silver one but as we got it for peanuts thought it worth fixing up.

I also have a Honda runaway stored in the shed I plan to do up, it was given to me by my uncle and as it is possibly the only one left in the country. The bike itself is the same age as me so a collectable.

Cheers Roy

New to this and just found the site......well ok thats not entirely true.

Most know me, I think.

Mark, 32, married with one son (William) age 2 and a further 1 due in October (I predict a boy follwing detailed studying of the last scan but, dont tell the wife!).

I work for Ericsson (formerly Marconi and GPT) and also spent a year working for Alstom in Stafford on HVDC projects. Degree qualified in Electrical and Electronic engineering, I studied in Nottingham where I now live. I currently work as a product champion on our OMS1600 range of SDH/data products.

I own 2 Omegas, 1 2001 registered (200 model year) facelift 2.5V6 CDx saloon manual which I ahve had now for 3 years and the recently accuired ex merseyside Police 3.0V6 Estate project car.

I got involved in cars at a VERY young age, my father was a motor mechanic (Saab trained!) who now runs the aftersales section of a Vaux dealer in Leicestershire and was always carrying out jobs at evening and weekends to make ends meet.

So add the years of mechanical experience to a knowledge of electronics and pile on an engineering approach to learning/problem solving and you get me!

So if anybody needs bits etc or wants to borrow tools (I have most standard tools plus V6 cam locking tools plus the special guides required to replace wishbone bushes to.....) or needs parts at trade then just get in touch.

Thats one car that I hate, I get one most weeks as a hire car through work, not yet had one that worked 100%....ive had faulty central locking, radio not working, faulty passenger seat (kept winding back of it own accord!) and to top it all.......the exhaust fell off one at 70mph on the A46.....terrible cars....

Hi Martin

I am talking about the Rootes Sunbeam like the Alpine & Tiger.

The Sunbeam that you are talking about was Chrysler (they have a LOT to answer for) inspired shortwheel base version of the Avenger which was a rushed project in order to compete with the new hatchbacks that were appearing at the time.  It was not, of course, a genuine hatch as only the window opened.  There was also a Lotus version.

I have fond memories of a 1967 Hillman Minx (the Hunter / Arrow shape) which my dad purchased new.  He used it in the day and mum used it at night as a district nurse.  That car went round the clock twice which was unheard of in those days!  The day my dad sold it, I cried.

Been attached to cars ever since which is wht I can't sell my Cavalier!

Meant to say above, there are two very good books about Rootes

1.   Cars of the Rootes Group by Robson (That is hte surname, can't remember the first name)
2.   The Rootes Brothers by Ian Bullock which is a biblography by the author who was hear of PR for Rootes

Hi,

By saying rushed, I did'nt mean no good - if I came across as saying that then I apologise.  I blame Chrysler for the demise of Rootes and their total lack of interest in the marques that they inherited.

My mate had a Talbot Sunbeam (which was a rebadged Chrysler after Chrysler sold out to PSA in France) and I remember it sticking to the road like glue.  It also went very well for a 1.6 although not so good when the carb dashpot was empty of oil!!

The sunbeam sold well and, occasionally, I still see one locally along with a Hillman Hunter.
Title: Re: So who are we all - Meet and Greet
Post by: Salty on 12 July 2006, 14:26:08
My brother had a chrysler sunbeam many years ago, it was a bit old and tired when he had it,  If you went over a bump too fast the passenger door would unlatch and open itself!
I had a Humber sceptre (Hunter shape) myself, brilliant car.
Title: Re: So who are we all - Meet and Greet
Post by: x25xe on 12 July 2006, 14:56:25
A Humber Sceptre!  I would love to buy one of these - they come up on e-bay quite a lot.  Just no where to keep it.  The ones with the Holbay engine are the most desirable.

The Hunter (Arrow) range of cars were great and are, I think, STILL being made in Iran!

Among my clients I have two Delphi (ex-Lucas) factories in the South east, both make parts for diesel engines and filters - so nothing for my V6 :(

Had Omegas since 1998… And just to say I am happy to see that the average age here is higher than that of the various moded Astras and Vectras sites…

My name’s Jason (hard to guess I know). I’ve a 2.5V6 Facelift Estate, it’s done 102,000 miles and at the moment my commute is 102 miles a day. My mission is to keep it running smoothly at minimum cost (not skimping though). My problem is that I like everything to be perfect.

My neighbours ask if I fix my car every weekend – but they already know the answer to that…..

I’m 36 and live near Bristol.

I’m an electronics engineer (firmware more specifically) and have only got back into fixing my own car since I got the Omega a year ago, although it used to do a fair bit when I was younger.

My Omega seems to keep me busy, who needs a hobby anyway….

Hi Folks,

Great to see some familiar faces (Avatars and names) again...

Hope that this forum will be all that we need for our queries, answers and assistance on all things Omega based.

To introduce myself formally, Steve, residing in the Altrincham area. 32 (will be in couple of weeks anyway!) and working as an Environmental Health Officer specialising in Pollution Control (noisy people, bad smells, smoke and anything else you can pretty much imagine) in Local Government not too far from home..

Spare time hobbies - when not repairing or bug fixing my meega, as a sound, lighting and set building techie in amateur dramatics or photography.

Been messing with cars for years - all types, but don't necessarily have the same technical knowledge as some of our esteemed colleagues here - good common sense though including electronic matters (spent too long poring over Haynes wiring diagrams not to have learned a trick or two!).

P reg Black Elite Estate - Catch me if you can.... Nice to see some locals about....

Rest of the forum - localities, is it possible to display this with the names on the messages, I found it useful on another similar forum once before - at least you can ask a neighbour for help or offer likewise!

Hi Steve

No chance of catching you in my DTI, but I'll not use a lot of fuel trying. Could I have seen you a few days ago coming of the carrington spur, late afternoon. Our is there an other black estate in the area.

I've made the point of location on the members posts, in the suggestions section, the lads say they will look into it, I agree it's handy in lots of ways.

Yes nice to know I'm not the only Manc on board.
Title: Re: So who are we all - Meet and Greet
Post by: SMS01 on 13 July 2006, 01:08:34
Quite possibly was myself, twice a day on works run at that location - trying to rack my brains for seeing another omega there or therabouts this week! Yes, I am now very aware that a three litre petrol engine has more of a drinking problem than the diesel equivalents!

There is another Manc who hasn't joined up yet also from within a mile of myself - no doubt he will show up sooner or later.

Must be worth it when you hear it growl

I'll look out for you, I live in Ashton on Mersey. Must have defo been you then. My meega's a bit tatty around the edges now done 185K but runs like a dream and looks good from about 20 yds.

You'll know it's me got a couple of dints on the tail gate, we don't all have rear parking sensors, anyway it was the wife, honest.

I'm reluctantly on the look out for a replacement but they are a bit thin on the ground.

Well I think you all know of me by now.

Found this site by.... well... creating it!  ;D

I'm Dave, 39 and live in Derby.
I work as a credit control manager, currently on a contract trying to sort out Bombardier!

In my spare time I am generally either working on a car with Finlay or watching and learning with Marks DTM doing the work!

Been an Omega since Feb 2005 and have learnt a LOT in that time (mostly thanks to Mark) about these cars.

Currently also preparing for doing Czechwrecks (www.czechwrecks.com) with Marks DTM at the beginning of September in a 24v Senator! :D
We are doing this to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Care so you will hear more as we shamelessly harass anyone and everyone for sponsorship! ;)

On the rare occasions I am not either working, or under a car I like to go to the cinema and the odd live music gig so you will see reviews posted from me.

Hi Guys (and Girlies if there's any here yet). Just done a similar thing on the "New Names" thread but here's a bit more about me. Just moved over from VXon seeing how it was getting a bit "tetchy" on there! As you will have guessed, the name is Bob. I'm 52 years young, divorced and have two sons aged 21 and 18 (Bloody expensive year for birthdays!!) and live in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. I work as an Corporate Services Manager (accounts/admin) for a Company called HFX Ltd located next to Stansted airport. Also been a part time DJ for about 35 years now but gradually handing it all over to my eldest son who is now becoming really good at it - brilliant mixer! Drive a 1999 Omega CD 2.5 V6 Estate with 140k on the clock (perfect for lugging all the disco gear about) which I picked up fairly cheaply last August, although I've had to chuck a bucket load of money at it to get it reasonably up to scratch and yes, as you may know from VXon I did have the cam belt and tensioners done! Still have a few niggles with it which I'll probably be checking out with some of you guys at some time. Looks good but got a couple of small rust spots on a couple of the doors which I need to get sorted at some time. Good to see some old faces from VXon here.
Cheers, Bob [smiley=beer.gif]

Hi all, I'm Dave...... a family man with two lively lads.. oh and the misses. I drive a omega(2001) 2.6 cd auto, bought it last year an excellent motor with only 37k on the clock, it's like new but was imo cheap as chips.

We enjoy caravanning ideal for a quick get away  - cant do the trips abroad during school time, Headmaster goes ape..lol.

I use to refit seating and carpets for Monarch airlines  Manchester (egcc -airport code and my username).

This forum will be a great help lifting the bonnet and just looking at the engine gives me the wobbles... everythings so compact.. sorry in advance i may be asking more than answering.
Dave.

Love it but - shit, if you drive it like you should drive a 3 litre car it just gets rid of petrol like I'm George Bush!!      Fun Though!!

Finally got my account working  >:(......

OK, I'm Paul, brother of someone more eminent on this forum  ;) and own a '99 2.5 V6 CDX saloon in polar sea blue.  Add to this one ageing L plate red astra CD (owning kn@ckered red vauxhalls runs in the family), a vermillion 1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500 and numerous plastic bikes/tractors/go-karts owned by my 2 year old son.

I'm an analytical chemist for Unilever's safety centre and a part-time PhD student (means I only have to dodge soap 2.5 days a week...).  Living in Rushden, Northants and working in north Bedfordshire.  Just passed the 30 mark but got a long way to go to catch up my big bro.  ;D

Certainly not an expert mechanic (don't need to be in my family!) but like to dabble, especially on the spit (it's about as mechanically advanced as me).

Great forum!

Rod here!!

Just mosey'd on down from the 'other' place, (Althoguh I was on holiday and I haven't a clue what went on!! P'haps I don't want to know either!).

How about that?!?! Another forum to waste my time on when I should be working/tinkering etc.

Anyway, I'm 37, Live in a village called Newmills near Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland with my wife of three years Jemma and my two year old Son Jude.

Have been into, (and still am really!), Carltons and Senators historically, but bought an Irmscher kitted '02 3.2 MV6 estate when I took a new job and the car allowance policy dictated that my car must be under 5 yrs old!! Sadly my Senator, fine car though it was, (230 BHP BTW!!), didn't cut it!!  :(

I've since equipped said MV6 with some exceedingly wide wheels and tyres!!  ;D 8-)

Love my MV6, so does my wife. She can't have it!! So I'm trading her Mundaneo in for a 'V' plate 2.5 V6 Elite this evening. (Can't wait to get shot of that Mundaneo!! It really is a P.O.S. and I hate it with a passion!!)

Workwise, I'm a call/contact centre telephony solutions designer/developer for Siemens Communications.

I am registered for Staples2Naples this year and providing I can sort the brakes on the the 2.0 16v 'L' plate Omega I have for that then it's off to sunny Italy in September. Can't wait, but I've so much to do in the meantime!!

nickname is bernie aged 38 married with two young children. Owned my 2.5 reflection for 3.5 years and probably has been my best car, although the pug 205 1.9 was a cracker in my younger days - memories!

the omega is used by my wife as I have a 406 company car - not a patch.

Also own an Ascona 400 which is very slowly being brought back to life after many years sitting in a garage after coming over here on a holiday from Ireland.

Hi, moving over from a site nearby.

I'm Graham from near Totnes in Devon. Got a 03 2.6 at present and had an 02 2.2 up until last Christmas. Previously played with 406's and Mondeo's. Hopefully nothing too much should be going wrong with mine in near future (straight through its first MOT this week) but will keep a look out on this site in anticipation of the years ahead. In meantime spend most weekends trying to keep wife's Freelander on road as something else seems to fall off/break every week!

Hola dudes..

My name is Kim (yes I'm a dude! just so you'll know, in ancient nordic language kim means chief) and I'm 32 years old, wifes name is Anja and our three kids Daniel 9, Frederikke 8 and Victoria 3.. I'm new to the vauxhall/opel scene and really has had no other relationship to it other than I've allways thought of the opel GT (the old one u know) as one of the coolest cars ever produced.

Well as thing is, I bought a lovely omega 2.0i 16v for myself (err ok.. and the wife) on christmas eve last year and I really like the shape and feeling of the car.. A real mans car u know (unlike peugeots and such.. pfff)

This is actually the newest car I've ever owned and I'm a wee bit worried about all the electronics and sensors (I've allready replaced the camshaft sensor) but I'm up for the challenge (otherwise you'll hear me cry in the Omega General Help department ;-) ) The reason why I've never owned a newer car is that I like it simple (I'm heavily into aircooled volkswagens) and because in Denmark cars are severely taxed (the pricetag on my car when new was a shade over 35000£ and the MV6 was in the region of 46500£).

Anyways, I'm glad I'd found this site and I'm sure it'll provide me and lots others with all the information needed to keep our beloved cars on the road (without beeing skinned at the local Vx/opel garage)

Regards, dRjENSEN..

Welcome Kim.
Your 2.0l is a nice easy car to maintain - there is plenty of room under the bonnet to get at things, unlike v6 models which can be a little tight at times. If you have any queries, just fire away :)

Hi,

Not sure If I fully qualify since I sold my 97 'R' Elite Estate 2.5td to my mate but will continue here on his behalf.  Would have kept it but for the 30-35 mpg!!  My greatest passion is AV and Gadgets (www.avforums.com) notice 'martin imber' over there!!  Run my own Control Systems Company with a couple of mates, small, never be millionaires but ok!!  Into Computers, software etc..  Originally from South Wales but now living just North of Enfield.  Would Really like to own an Omega again if they made a 2.5td Elite that did 55mpg but the miles I do means it was costing a fortune!!

Well that's it for now.

bye

Mel

P.S. I think personally that this Omega Dedicated Forum is just the Ticket!!

my name is Daks ( yep thats my real name, long story, thanks Dad, lol ) i am 32 and have now been married  10 years to my lovely wife  :), we have no children and as such enjoy going out on the weekends, drunkerds really, lol.

I normally work as a brickies labourer or sparkies, depending on the job at hand, i also help people fix thier computers as a small sideline, nothing major, just helping people that know less than me, which is  not much  ;)

i use to be hard into computer games such as counter strike, and have had my own servers websites etc... this is not really important but in all the time i have had servers, ventrillo channels and webbys etc.. i have never disclosed the information i am disclosing above, which to many is not much, but for me is a lot,  this i believe is for the fact that i have lurked and posted occasionally on von, and have found the majority of people especially those that have came from the last site and those here now to be a very decent bunch of people.

I am pleased you guys, Ronnie, Laidback, the boy and marks Dtm have decided to create your own website, sorry if i have forgot anyone. And help the many people who know very little and those who know a lot with your wealth of knowledge, i for one appreciate it as im sure many others do, thanks  :)

Right off to the pub, take care all  :)

Hi all

Name is Martin, age 44, wife and 4 kids, youngest of which is Mandy who several people on here will have met at a few meets associated with the other site.

I am a Maintenance/Technical Supervisor in an Electrical steel lamination stamping and diecasting company, been in the foundry industry all my working life.

Present drive is an Omega 3.0 MV6, ex plod, (on LPG),  had a dodgy autobox, dismantled it, coded the sumps amongst other bits and got it working. Now it needs some more TLC to make it a better drive.

Have previously benefitted from the knowledge of a few people now on here, so I am happy to support this new venture.

Hi all, after some effort and help from Laidback66 i managed to get on here. Most of you might remember me from vxon. My name is Kostas i'm 24 and i'm Greek, living in Darlington. I have been in the UK 5 years now and i'm a mechanical engineer working at an engine company, i'm married with Mireille who is Lebanese and i met her at the university 5 years ago. We have no kids at the moment,
My biggest interest is cars, HGVs, and tuning engines. Also i love cooking and listening to Jazz music.
Thats me briefly. At the moment i'm very sad as i had to cancel my long ago planned 3 week holiday to Lebanon.

Morning all.... same Paul M from the vxon forums (is that a taboo word now?  :P ).

I'm 25, have a 1998 3.0 MV6 manual saloon that I affectionately call the "luxobarge", it's basically my runaround to keep the miles (and fuel cost) down on my proper car which is a BMW 840Ci 4.4 V8 6-speed manual. I did have a bike too, should have a 2003 GSXR-1000 now but the guy I was going to buy from messed me around a bit and I called off the sale so currently bikeless :'(

Anyway I'm a poor student... well sort of, I have full-time sponsorship from a company as part of my research (as part of the deal they get the rights to any IP generated) so I actually get paid more than most of my mates, best of both worlds :D

Oh and it seems I'm in the minority in this place not being married, and I intend to keep it that way! Playing the field is waaaay more fun, and I reckon I've got a few years of partying in me yet 8-)

L8r sk8ers ;)

Hello all

My name is Jeremy, 49-ish from just north of Milton Keynes. I have a wife & 2 married daughters. I'm a chemical engineer (or was, once) and work in the cement industry.

I was born in Merseyside but my family joined the £10 migrant exodus in the late 60s so I spent many years in Perth & Melbourne. Like most poor students at the time, I got the hang of using a spanner fixing such gems as a Chrysler Valiant AP5 with a slant-6 engine, two Type-3 VWs with air-cooled flat-bed rear engines and a Renault 12 that I had to start each morning with a hammer.

In 1988 I got my first company car and managed to keep my hands clean at the company's expense more or less until last year. I left the co. car scheme and bought a 98 Elite 2.5V6 on eBay in allegedly pristine condition. Then I had it converted to LPG. My objective, comfortable but relatively cheap luxury. Anyway, "pristine" in some eBay seller's dictionary has the same meaning as "renovator's delight" in the real estate industry. Having changed the timing belt and tensioners (100k and never previously touched, that could be pristine I guess), the cam covers, the DIS pack, the tyres, the HT leads, the aux belt etc, its finally relatively satisfactory.

Again, congratulations to LB66, MarksDTM, TheBoy and RMcB for getting the site up & running so well.

Hi All

My name is Pete and I am 41 years old. I am married and live in Northwich, Cheshire. I own a 98 3.0 Elite which I have had for about 4 months and is my second Omega to date. The first Omega was a 96 2.5 V6 CD estate with LPG conversion which I sold at 250,000 miles because I thought sooner or later somethings got to go wrong but I still see it around now. My wife drives an Audi 80 2.8 Quattro in pearl white which is a quick car but not as comfy as the Elite and nowhere near as many toys and I have a 73 Alfa Romeo kamm tail spider which I have been going to restore for the last 5 years; however, with me being self employed I just dont have the time.

Anyway enough rambling, keep up the excellent work on the forum.

Regards Pete

To be honest we toyed with the idea of selling a while back as the wife now only works less that a mile away and walks to work in the summer but the car is mint and well maintained but is worth nothing so I decided to keep it for the days when I feel a bit like a boy racer. I might even replace the 2.8 Quattro badge with TDi  [smiley=wink.gif]

Hi All, my name is Phil and I too came over from the "Dark Side", I am 58 and after working for many years in engineering I am now a school caretaker, jack of all trades, master of none, etc; I drive a 2.5 CDX saloon, runs well, pass anything except a petrol station! Getting about 20 mpg average, about the same as the Jag XJ6 I used to own. I live on the Wirral, not far from GeoffD, who did my cambelt, and he did a good job as well. I used to do all my own repairs when I was younger, including engine rebuilds, but one look under a bonnet on modern cars and I shut it again quickly! Anyway enough rambling, speak to you all soon.

Hi Steve, I don't know how you manage to get 28mpg, if I turned the engine off going downhill and got towed part of the way to work, I don't think that I get that figure. And I don't have a heavy right foot.

Do about half and half motorway/urban so perhaps that explains it. On a run to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago I got 31 but I must admit I was really trying to be frugal and I couldn't drive like that all of the time.
( I have heard by the way that Macburger drives like an old granny all of the time and on a long run has managed 87mpg) ;D

Now. Let me just say that the peugeot in all its glory has, unlike every Omega I have had, not gone wrong, broken, had any leaks or any problems whatsoever yet. It also is nice to drive, is great on MPG, the air con is ice cold and it has a top speed in excess of 52mph (apparently). So stop taking the piss! >:(

If you don't behave I will go back to you-know-where. Oh, no I can't -  they've banned two of my 7 user names!!!!! ;D

Now, does any of you 'orrible lot want my TD CHEAP!!!!! £1500 and it is sold. Be quick.

Looks like I might be the oldest member of the site :-[, married to my lovely wife Margaret, 2 children, 6 grandchildren.

Started messing with cars (my dad's) back in the 50's.

He owned a beautiful 1939 Vaxhall 10, 4 door saloon, sunroof, ohv engine, hydraulic brakes, independant front suspension.

He gave it to me when I passed my test (1st time) at 17.

Only just got back into D.I.Y. (thanks to you guys) after 30 odd years, and enjoying it again.

For those who don't know (don't take the piss) I'm Barry (from Birmingham) ;D

I'm Dan - from Medway in Kent - 33 years old, currently working as a telecomms engineer. Previously worked in computers (retail sales then 2nd line tech support). Took over running their phone system as I fancied a change, ended up working for the company who made the phone system as a field engineer for 6 years, now working as as on-site engineer but as a customer once again!

Before that I'd worked part time in an electronics shop and did 2 years of a degree in electrical and electronic engineering - but dropped out of that as the maths was too much for me (calculus  :() and I wasn't finding it interesting, probably because of that! I still find some stuff that I learnt on the degree course useful though.

Always had company cars in my previous jobs, so never really did much work on them mechanically. I then had a nissan micra (beggars can't be choosers ...) and bought a 2.5V6 pre-facelift elite in December 2005. I'd always liked the look of omegas, and since an accident which gave me a prolapsed disc a few years ago I've had to pay more attention to seating position etc.. I had a post-facelift omega as a hire car at one point and remember it was pretty much the only car that I felt comfortable in almost immediately. I started fixing some things on the 2.5 myself, but only really due to the backup and how-2's provided by the members on here (albeit initially on the "other" forum). Upgraded to a 3.0V6 post-facelift elite a couple of months ago, which had a few teething problems but pretty much all sorted now (including cam belt, tensioners and water pump). I still like the sound of the V6 engines, much nicer than the sound of 4-pot's that I'd driven up to that point. Running costs are higher, but hey ... no pain, no gain!

I enjoy getting my hands dirty on cars, have always been a "hands-on" type person and cars is something different to computers and phones. I've learnt a lot about omegas in 7 months (and bought a few tools ...). Despite the "issues" with Omega's it didn't put me off buying a second one - a good bunch of folks on here who respond suprisingly quickly at times - I'd not have attempted some of the jobs I have done without the reassurance of the backup provided herein!

I'm too much of hands-on type person, the programming on the degree did my head in too - had to do pascal and 'C' ... frustrating when something doesn't work because you've got a semi-colon in the wrong place (or missed one out).

I worked for Mitel, the company I'm at now uses their systems (hence why I'm there!)

Hey Guys,
I'm Alec, an ex-Flight Engineer (10 Stars to those who know what that is/was!!)....Retired young & dumped the old 3 litre Senator, bought a good retiree's car..Nissan Primera Estate 2.0 with a cam-CHAIN that apparently lasts forever.........only to get hold of a genuine 21000 miles Omega Elite (Saloon unfortunately) at a very good price from a friend who was too ill to drive........................& is no longer with us :'(
Love it but - shit, if you drive it like you should drive a 3 litre car it just gets rid of petrol like I'm George Bush!!      Fun Though!!

I remember them(FLT Engs)....... I think a few are still required no thanks to airbus and the digital era. I know  737/727s were very popular in this country did you operate these or did you operate the bigger birds?

Dave.
