Omega General Help / Vacume pump?

Hi there guy's , when I start the omega from cold there is a fairly loud noise that sounds like a vacum cleaner :-?

It lasts for a few minutes and then shuts off and the car sounds as normal . The colder the weather the longer the sound lasts . Any answers to my mystery under-bonnet cleaning lady?

The car runs as normal and is a 2.5 V6 Elite '98 Thanks guys.

Omega General Help / Rough Rider

Hi there , not posted for a long time , had some carefree motoring

Unfortunately the car is now riding badly , at slow speeds it feels like I'm driving on cobblestones  :Dand it pulls to the left (which it has always done to a much lesser degree) . The steering wheel shakes as though the wheels are out of balance though the weights are still in place .

All of this smooths out at motorway speeds , but doesn't disappear completely.

Haven't had time to take a proper look yet but I've got a bit of time off now so would like to get it sorted . What are your suggestions as to the most likely causes?

Any help , much appreciated BTW it's a '98 2.5 Elite.

Omega General Help / failed to start

Hi there Peeps ,
                       Not been here for a while cos the omega's been fine!! However today i've had some strange things happen .

Drove to work last week and got there very low on petrol , 34 miles range remaining on computer display . Started car today when I got back and on route to filling station had to do 'U' turn and car cut out on me. Never happened before but re-started OK , figured that 'U' turn had caused petrol starvation , so drove slowly last 300 meters and put a tenners worth in( theiving petrol station ) then drove 65 motorway miles home . Car behaved normally .

Got back to Brighton and filled up for reasonable price (dies with laughter). Got back in car and it wouldn't start. Turned over OK but wouldn't fire up untill about 5th attempt. When it did start revs fluctuated a bit and then settled down to normal.

Have done paperclip test and no codes are stored except 12 and 31 , engine not running so assume this is normal .

I depend on this car to get to work so would like to head off any problems before I get stranded on M25 :-/ :-/ Any suggestions will be appreciated

Probably a simlpe one for you guys , but remote key stopped working the other day , have changed the battery but it still doesn't work .

My spare key still works , so I know its nothing wrong with the car , any suggestions? :-/ :-/

Omega General Help / Cambelt Locking Kit

Hi there guys ,

Was wondering what you guys thought of the cambelt locking kit made by a company called 'Laser'?

There are a couple for sale on E-bay at the moment for £80 plus p+p the price seems good but was wondering about quality and accuracy.

Anyone got an oppinion? :-/

Omega General Help / Side Airbags

Hi there Guys ,

Have just bought grey leather interior for the omega after about 2 years of looking :-?

Will need to use the omega to pick it up so was going to remove the rear seats before traveling up to Luton .

Am I correct in thinking that the passenger seat has to be in place with airbag connected for the drive up there because of the airbag warning light ? Dont fancy having to get it reset on Tec 2 if I dont have to.

Any other info or suggestions about the swap over will be appreciated.

Cambelt change coming up sometime this year  :-/, have got the DVD already , but was wondering if anyone in the Brighton area would be willing to lend me the camlocking tools . Or alternativley does anyone know where I can buy one .

Also any advice on other bits I will need besides Discs and pads .

Omega General Help / Shock Absorbers

Hi Peeps ,
              Changed the exhaust last week and noticed the off side rear shock was leaking slightly  , MOT is due in a couple of months and was wondering what the damage will be for original equipment . Or what options are there for after market shocks , would like to keep the self leveling though realy . Thanks for any feedback .

Omega General Help / Explosive Exhaust!!

Well the exhaust on the car let go in a big way on the motorway today . Doin about 90 and there was a huge bang(nearly soiled myself I can tell you). Got home to find good sized hole in passenger side centre box and the stuffing coming out of the back-box tail pipe Gave the cats a good thump and they dont seem to be rattling so hopefully they will be ok , but I've never known an exhaust to self destruct in this way before.

Maybe the tail pipe went and the back pressure caused the rest to go :-/ :-/?

So I know everyone says Vx is best for exhausts but I dont have a trade club card and was wondering what sort of price I'm looking at to get it fitted there or maybe try my local garage or even (shock/horror) Kwik Fit

Would preffer not to do it myself cos I'm realy up to my eyeballs in sh1t with the house at the mo , but I'm so broke   that as a total last resort I may have to try and fit it in somewhere [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Omega General Help / Starter For Ten

Hi there guys , Quick question for the knowledgable and experienced among you. Got in the car the other morning and for the first time ever it wouldn't start (not bad for two years) . Just made a whooshing sound as though the starter motor was spinning but not connecting with the flywheel. Eventually after lots of cranking it started and has started normally ever since

So question 1 is this the most likely explanation or could there be something else?

    question 2 is there any maintenance / lubrication I can do to prevent this happening again or getting worse?

Hi there , just a small problem(thankfully).

Ever since I've owned my car the windscreen has made a strange sort of bubbling noise when I've used the windscreen washer or when it has rained lightly (not during heavy rain). Now I'm getting a drip when it rains . Seems to me (with my towering interlect ) , that the seal around the windscreen is not doing its job properly( I know its amazing , I impress myself sometimes ).

Question , is there a way to seal the windscreen , or any products that you guys out there can recomend?

Omega General Help / A Word From The Wise Ones Please

Hi there , Just a quick question from the wise and experienced among us (so not me then ).

As a preventative measure how often would you guys recommend cleaning the breathers ? Did mine 5/6 months ago so no leaks  :ybut I don't realy want to have to go to the trouble of changing the rocker gaskets again  .

Did an oil change today but didn't have time to whip the plennum off and have a look and my spare time is gonna be filled with fitting bathroom next couple of weeks . But if you guys think its getting desperate I'll make the time some how :-/.

Hi there Guys , Just got on the forum today , spent the last couple of months wasting my time on another forum which shall remain nameless Was reading about the cambelt DVD , who do I need to get in touch with to get me a copy!!! Don't need to do the job for 15 - 20,000 miles or so but if I get it now , I may have worked up the nerve to do the job myself

Hi guys! I'm getting Vibration through car and steering during light braking , have noticed even the gear selector vibrating!! When I brake hard all is well and vibration goes away . I'm thinking warped front discs but before I splash out on a new set of front disc's and pads I just wanted to see if you guys had any other suggestions , also what's the job like , how long , any tips / short cuts , ect [smiley=evil.gif]
