Changed the oil in hers.  Being a diesel chain driven engine, I start to get twitchy once its done more than 4k on the oil.

Any wonder, the earlier Ingenium engines are prone to chain issues, my lads Xf needs doing at 82k with full history

Indeed, although that hasn't changed my service schedule.  I suspect the stupid 21k service interval doesn't help the chains much...

And I won't even begin to ask what mongrel thought it was a good idea to put the chains on the back!

Probably the same imbecile that thought the VAG V6/8/10tdi would make a good marine engine with four chains between the engine and gearbox.

Changed the inner tie rods on the zafira. Very straightforward job other than trying to get the rubber boot back onto the rack on the near side.  :-X

I don't know which imbecile thought that placement was a good idea, or who went on to give them a job designing inlet manifolds for JLR but I honestly couldn't get tired of punching them.

Is there some sort of trick to getting this done? After faffing about for far too long I used a jubilee clip and folded the boot back over it, then used the same jubilee clip to secure it to the rack. Worked out ok in the end, but one hell of a performance for something that should have been so simple.

Undo the rack to give more wiggle room :-\

Took out the rear springs on the Zaf for a quick wire brushing and paint (another MOT advisory) on my way to the trailing arm bushes.

Given it's six degrees here, I wasn't going to carry on in the rain, so I put some penetrating oil on the bolts and retreated to the garage to clean up the springs. Then borrowed a blower heater off the in-laws so I can get some paint on them in the morning  :y.

It's debatable whether this will work as well on the subframe  ::)

Its the crazy 21k mile intervals that take out the chains (the links wear)...........full service history is never a good sign.

The chain on my astra makes a horrendous noise on startup. I know what it is, the plastic guides on the bottom of the timing cover have disintegrated the chain hits the cover until the hydraulic tensioners kick in.
It's a common fault, Vx say it is a characteristic of the engine  ;D

Nah, it's just one of its little quirks. A lesser mortal might be afraid of a small chain rattle, but I'm not that fussed  :y

Thrashed the rear trailing arm bushes out and refitted their poly equivalents, then built everything back up. Took about 90 mins and my arms felt like they were dropping off by the time I'd got the second one out.

Clearly I'm more suited to a soft office job.  ;D
